Interceptor tends to be a hard chew, not soft for tiny mouths. Also, can cause tremors. I’d stick with the Heartgard Plus. Give only half of it to your dog (half of the 25 lb chew). Cut into thin slices for easy absorption & feed right after a full meal. Wrap the other half in a tiny piece of plastic and seal it shut with packaging tape to prevent oxidation.

#1 food for chicken (or other) intolerant pups is Zignature. 5 formulas from which to choose. Read the reviews on Chewy.com, saved my dogs’ lives when they started having adverse effects with all the 5 star foods. Stools should have a moist sheen but formed, look at the Bristol Stool Chart for analysis. You can always break down the kibble a bit in a blender for easier chewing/ digestion.

Get two separate fecal tests done, one for Giardia and one for Clostridium Difficile.

Then do a test panel for food intolerances and allergies. I used Glacier Peak Holistics (saved my dogs’ lives).

While you wait for these results, (fast him for 8 hrs) then feed your dog a formula from Zignature dog food, #1 for sensitive tummies. Worry about your large breed needs after you know what ingredients to which he’s intolerant.

Dogs go into dehydration mode immediately after the first bout of diarrhea, so if it’s been on going, he may need a fluid IV treatment at the vet. Diarrhea is not normal, so when it occurs, you need to backtrack on everything your pup consumed.

You increase choking factor with larger pieces of food. Instead, create a 45 degree angle when eating & drinking. If you have stairs, that’s as many steps between front/ bag legs of size dog comfortably, keeping throat from being horizontal. No stairs, use a chair, hold the bowl. The right angle is key. Grind up kibble or mix in wet food for less (open mouth) chewing. Also fing the medication to reduce larynx swelling.

Stop the Purina asap. Get any formula of your choice by Zignature, the best for sensitive tummies. My pups would perish without it.

Sometimes, I add on top chopped steamed broccoli and pre made carnitas meat (just a little, very salty). Ups the yum factor. Make sure he’s comfy while eating, whether laying down or hold the bowl up if standing.

The size of kibble will not change the rate of eating. However, it may be a sign that he’s not getting enough quality protein food, supplements and vitamins per day. Do not buy slow feeder bowls. Eating is not a game and is horribly frustrating for the dog. I don’t think anyone wants their steak dinner hidden in deep crevices. My dogs do not “come running” to the bowl or inhale it. It’s a social activity that’s relaxed and enjoyed, Mommy praising them, and with a satisfied siesta afterwards.

No such thing as a lazy dog, at any age. Something’s wrong.

Go back to your vet to determine at which level of heart murmur intensity (there are 6 levels) Buddy has and if further diagnostics may show signs of a disease. Without knowing what you’re dealing with internally, all the food changes will not help him. You then streamline your dog’s health needs with the appropriate and consistent exercise regiment (especially walks), food/supplements and pain medication.

Get the Zignature line of dog kibble AND get Dasuquin with MSM. Both from Chewy.com. Start immediately. If it’s safe, per your dog’s blood work, give him Previcox nightly right after dinner. Keep everything fresh and sealed.

Many factors to consider. If your dog is perfectly healthy, there is no reason to switch to less calories, less protein, less anything. More vitamins and supplements actually. So this would be the time to do a full medical checkup. From oral, to kidneys to liver to thyroid, etc. Those are the issues for tweaking a canine’s diet. It’s like if you turned 65 and everyone took all your foods away, and slapped down some oatmeal.

Zignature Lamb limited ingredient formula (kibble). What would probably make it go away is ZiwiPeak freeze dried food (tiny soft flat squares), on the expensive side. So you can go thru a bag or two than switch back to kibble. Primal is raw blocks that have to be rehydrated with a bit of water, also very good. You want to significantly decrease the UTI with a cleansing diet for a few months before settling down with a formula of your choice.

No, dental chews are once a day things, not for training. You can absolutely train successfully with positive verbal reinforcements, no treats needed. Just keep each session no more than 15 minutes long. A treat at the end is fine.

Your Milk Bones Wellness treats have flour and fat fillers plus salt and coloring. Causing more harm than good. Very crude ingredients that reflect its low price point):

Chicken, Wheat Flour, Soybean Flour, Glycerin, Tapioca Flour, Animal Fat (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Water, Salt, Citric Acid (Used as a Preservative), Inulin, Fat Product (Source of Docosahexaenoic Acid), Caramel Color, Calcium Propionate, Beta-Carotene, Zinc Proteinate, Betaine, Zinc Propionate, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (Source of Vitamin C), Vitamin E Supplement, Natural Mixed Tocopherols (Used as a Preservative), Taurine, Sodium Copper Chlorophyllin, Kale Powder, Rosemary Extract.

However, you’re on the right track to helping your pups’ joint health! I do so with my boys who have bad knees, they fly around like Superman. May I highly recommend for you to get the best…

Dasuquin with MSM for small dogs. Worth every penny. 😊

Zignature Zssentials has a few proteins in it & there’s Zignature limited ingredient formulas. #1 kibble for those sensitive to a lot of added ingredients in most foods. Their canned food is not good, try Lotus or Weruva. Full tummied dogs do not look or act hungry, ever. My pups’ thrive on Zignature but their meals vary in amount depending on activity of the day (lots of lounging or hard swimming or running). I add chopped broccoli on top for extra fiber and it smells very “green” (they love grass). It’ll take you a few weeks to figure out how much makes him full without gaining unwanted weight vs activity. But the first few days let him indulge to eat more. Charts and vet advice have nothing to do with your dog’s specific needs. It’s no fun being hungry all the time.

Zignature limited ingredient formulas. But let your dog fast for a day to ease her stomach. If you can’t hydrate her enough, take her to the vet for fluids, intravenously. Very important. Make sure her meds aren’t causing her more inflammation.

BHA is used a lot because it stays stable in higher temperatures. In high doses, it has carcinogenic properties. I looked at the Milk Bones, budget friendly but terrifying ingredients. May I suggest trying Zuke’s Z-Bones grain free dental chews. My boys love the mini size, as a treat. Berry Crisp is the the best flavor. For actual teeth brushing, I use Virbac’s C.E.T. Enzymatic Toothpaste in vanilla mint flavor.

Same exact thing happened to my boys but after switching to Orijen Adult when it still came from Canada. The #1 kibble proven for stomach sensitivity is The Zignature line of dog food. No chicken, potato, egg & a slew of other things. Read the reviews. My babies are now 4 yrs old, big healthy strong with zero allergies and award winning poop LOL!

For freeze dried, Primal nuggets is the best. However, I just use it as a topper by crumbling over the food. And broccoli.

The only brand I found close to that perfect formula in kibble is the Zignature line of dog food. It’s void of the most common potential canine allergens which are corn, wheat, soy, dairy, and chicken, plus is gluten free. They do use legumes (sorry!). My boys are gastrointestinally sensitive to every ingredient in other brands, we’ve went thru the entire 5 star list. Ingredients like eggs, potatoes or brewers yeast is in everything. If there’s a kibble better than this, I’d love to know about it!

For breeding females, Primal’s freeze dried nuggets are beneficial but very expensive.

She may need more exercise to increase her appetite. Or too many treats that may taste better than her food. Or the food is starting to go stale quickly (in what you keep it, dogs can smell it before we do). For the latter, I distribute a 27 lb bag into 7 airtight containers with liners inside that I twisty tie as the food goes down. Anyway, I went through all of these situations, it’s a fine tuned balance of type of food/supplements /exercise/snacks/rest. And it changes as they age. For me, I learned it was sticking to a strict daily routine or their eating habits and weight go astray. Until you find an appropriate food your dog likes, adding things to it like toppers, broth or canned won’t resolve anything.

Unless your pet has a medical condition, I wouldn’t lower the calories but increase appropriate exercise. Purina consistently kills thousands of pets per year though you don’t hear about it in the news. I feed Zignature Zssentials, small round flat kibble shaped. They also have many limited ingredient flavors to choose from.

Not with your brand, but the exact same thing happened to me for another brand’s 27 lb bag. If you can squeeze air in and out or smell the food somehow, do not feed to your pet. The stale, storage mite covered food is severely contaminated. I mailed several bags back to the online retailer with a note on each bag. And I’ll be writing to the address on the bag. I plan on being persistent because because my pets got sick before and they’re endangering other consumers’ pets.

Zignature Zssentials is proven for allergy prone and yeasty dogs. Reviewers can’t lie. Ear flushes and drops had made my pups’ ears worse and I’ll never put them through that again. I feed Zignature, avoid all grains and potatoes eggs etc, I gently wipe out their ears with a dry soft Kleenex every other day. Clean as a whistle.

Senior dog food is usually for purposes of weight loss, constipation and/or decrease in kidney function. So a healthy older dog would not benefit with an unnecessary change to less calories, more fiber and low protein digestibility. Like a senior citizen at the gym vs one in a wheelchair wouldn’t have the same diet. So keep doing what you’re doing!

Your pup definitely needs adult food. Small breed food doesn’t contain enough calories & nutrients for an 80 lb dog. Has nothing to do with whether it contains Glucosamine and Chondroitin. You can still sprinkle a little N&D over the adult food to keep it fun.

It’s not the food. You have to brush your dog’s teeth daily, like you brush yours. Use Virbac C.E.T. Enzymatic Dog & Cat Vanilla-Mint Flavor Toothpaste. Get a very soft toothbrush or thin wash cloth and start scrubbing. Gum disease will lead to other illnesses, worth the time and effort.

Seems like you’ve already tested symptoms for diarrhea, constipation, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, anal sac inflammation, enlarged prostate, and gastrointestinal obstruction (all causes painful defecation). While looking at blood test and x-rays, it’s better to check these off the list as barium testing or invasive surgery should be the absolute last resort.

An anal gland may be ruptured or has a tumor.

In the meantime, switch to feeding only wet food. I recommend ZiwiPeak, Lotus or Weruva brands. Flavor the water bowls and offer bowls of broth, anything to increase moisture intake.

Yeast and skin disorders disappear in a week, proven. Provide plenty of fresh water. Get them moving with more exercise, cutting down portions dangerously lowers needed nutrients. While doing this, order the Glacier Peak Holistics allergy test on each dog, then wait for results. Daily ball and frisbee fetching, brisk walks and swimming keeps my own pups lean and mean!

Your pet is experiencing food intolerance to one or more ingredients in what you’re feeding. Excessive gas is very stomach upsetting for a pup and can cause bloating. I had to keep searching for the right food until I found Zignature kibble formulas. All of my dogs’ symptoms disappeared in a week. They felt better, ran faster, great stools. So you just have to find the right ingredients as opposed to prescriptions, pills, probiotics etc. Food allergy testing is crucial.

Increase moisture intake, allow to urinate as much as possible. Fast track is to switch to grain free canned food only (for as long as you can) and low sodium broths between meals. Add some flavor to water bowls. Make popsicles. ZiwiPeak and Lotus make superb wet food; worth the cost since high ph can lead to many more complications.

The red is tears on the face and saliva from licking the feet. The red color can be produced by yeasts and bacteria that live in the damp fur. It’s a red yeast infection. It is food related a lot of the time.

Switch to high quality grain free kibble for allergy prone dogs. Zignature formulas are the best.

Rub peroxide on white fur, vinegar on other colors. Or trim off the stains carefully. Have an Aquis towel handy to blot dry fur as needed throughout the day.
