I soak Farmina. I can’t imagine any dog food company saying to soak or or to soak.
InkedMarieMemberTheHealthyPetStore.com carries Farmina & Horizon, free shipping over $49, in case anyone wants to know.
InkedMarieMemberThanks, ladies. I’ll skip dogfooddirect. The Farmina person I know says petfood station is out of Maryland, reputable & affiliated with Hearty Pet in Maryland. They carry mid size bags of Farmina which is why I asked.
InkedMarieMemberDid you look at the review of Pure Vita one the review side?
InkedMarieMemberIf you like Fromm, I’d suggest trying one of their grainfree foods. Unless I missed something, the Fromm senior has grains & only 23% protein; she’d be better off in something higher in protein.
InkedMarieMemberSeniors, unless they have specific medical issues, require no special diet. They need as much protein as other dogs, which is a higher amount of protein. In fact, studies show seniors need more protein than younger dogs!
At 14, she may have some arthritis. A grain free food would be best as grains are inflammatory. Are you giving her a joint supplement as well?
InkedMarieMemberMartin,
I agree with trying a dehydrated food. The Honest Kitchen and Grandma Lucys are two good choices. I don’t think the above recipe is balanced; not sure the consistency of boiled chicken with pumpkin in a blender is something she can eat. There ARE low fat canned foods; look at Weruva.InkedMarieMemberOops, I didn’t know that Fresh Pet was raw. Sorry!
InkedMarieMemberI soak got however long it takes to get my raw fed dogs food ready & add supplements. If you are on FB, message Farmina there, you’ll get a faster response.
C4C, the calories/feeding amounts are on the bag, I can’t find them on the site but I feed less.
November 21, 2014 at 7:08 pm in reply to: Choice : Nature's Logic OR Farmina N&D ! #58058 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberMy two girls are doing great on Farmina!
InkedMarieMemberTHK is NOT raw so you’re good to feed it!
InkedMarieMemberKaren,
Fresh Pet is cooked then cooled food, I believe, not raw. Vital Essentials is raw.InkedMarieMemberThere are various options for raw. You can buy pre made raw at the store; the ones I like are Primal & Vital Essentials. If you go to the review side, put raw food into the search and read up on them.
Darwins is pre made raw that is shipped to you. Google for the website, they offer a trial package at a good price.
You can do your own raw, BARF or prey model. Prey model has no fruits or veggies. That is what I feed but I feed it ground. I buy the bony ground from Hare Today and some from Reel Raw. I buy some boneless from Hare but most of it locally.
InkedMarieMemberHi Karen,
Is it the 95% lamb that you got? If yes, that is only a topper/mixer, not complete. Can you just pick a canned or dehydrated food & give her that, no kibble? A raw diet is best if you can or are willing to do it.
Has she been to the vets? Have you taken in a urine sample? Does she have an infection goingInkedMarieMemberI throw my dogs pills in their food…how about a spoonful of canned in their food with the pill inside?
InkedMarieMemberAmicus, Natures Logic & Farmina small bites are all small.
InkedMarieMemberI just saw today that SportDogFood is carrying it now.
InkedMarieMemberTHK is not raw.
InkedMarieMemberBoone & Ginger’s last a few minutes. Gemma has no teeth so it takes her hours to gum it.
InkedMarieMemberThey’re kind of like chews, kind of like jerky. Mine love them!
InkedMarieMemberImo a fog with crystals should be fed a wet food, not dry. Adding water is fine but it’s not enough.
InkedMarieMemberThe only jerky type of treats I’ll use are the ones from The Honest Kitchen.
InkedMarieMemberTHK has two now, I don’t know the name though. I’ve seen people talk about See Spot Live Longer as well.
InkedMarieMemberI agree about Blue. Some foods with small Kibbles are Natures Logic (technically not grainfree but the only grain is millet), Amicus, Solid Gold just a wee bit (unsure if it’s gf?) and Farmina small bites.
InkedMarieMemberMost of my dogs have been “cows”….all eat high quality foods, different foods ao I dont worry about it.
November 14, 2014 at 10:00 am in reply to: Best dry food for an italian greyhound puppy #57227 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberFarmina small breed food is very tiny.
November 14, 2014 at 9:52 am in reply to: 14 Year Old Lab with Sensitive Stomach #57225 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberHave you taken him to your vet? You need to rule out any medical issues for the accidents.
InkedMarieMemberSarah: you can tell your vet you want her titered anyway but if I was you, I’d find a holistic vet. Thats what I did. My vet doesn’t believe in titering but said he’d do it….for me, I wanted a vet who believed in and understood titering. So, I found a holistic vet and she does this for me when she feels it’s warranted.
InkedMarieMemberDog Obsessed, rabies is smart every three years but you are smart to titer her. I hate reading when people say they have to do vaccines because the vet said so. We are the owners, we make the choice. glad you are!
November 13, 2014 at 6:39 am in reply to: Questions about what to feed our puppies #57106 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberI don’t have a puppy but my favorite foods are:
Kibble: Farmina, Dr Tims, Annamaet, Natures Logic, Brothers.
Dehydrated: The Honest Kitchen
Premade raw: Vital Essentials, Primal & Darwins
InkedMarieMemberI adopted an obese dog & we had great luck with a Wellness Core reduced fat.
InkedMarieMemberMickey is beautiful, Gloria!!
InkedMarieMemberHi Gloria!
Head over to the review section (click reviews in the red line above) and read the as ince a Diet Reviews. Have you read stuff on the review side? There is a lot of information on how to spot a good dog food. Science Diet wouldn’t be one of them.
I agree about dog food changing over the years. I used Eukanuba when I got my first dog & it was top quality then.InkedMarieMemberCindy,
Order online, most of us here do! Chewy.com, wag.com, Petflow.com, SportDogFood.com, petfooddirect.com are all good. Keep away from doggie food.com.November 10, 2014 at 8:01 pm in reply to: Heartworm monthly pill, is it safe? HELP pls. #56882 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberI live in NH, I give heartworm preventive every 45 days from May til October, sometimes November.
InkedMarieMemberI use Kurgo harnesses for my three.
InkedMarieMemberI agree about the recalls. I feed THK, always will & their recall didn’t change that. Evangers…I not sure if they’ve ever had a recall but they’re so shady that I’ll never feed anything they make.
InkedMarieMemberIf the changes occurred in July, I doubt the bags of food you were feeding, especially at the beginning, would be those. Is it possible this is an environmental issue?
November 7, 2014 at 8:32 pm in reply to: So I made a tool for dogs with allergies… #56555 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberCool tool, thanks for that!
InkedMarieMemberOn a FB forum, people are saying its 3 & 4D meat from his rendering plant & denatured with charcoal. The person who just ordered it said its 68 cents a pound….gotta be good quality for that price, right?
November 7, 2014 at 9:26 am in reply to: Origin Adult Dogfood High Protein and Weight Gain #56503 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberJenny, I completely understand about your Leo. Glad you have him & that he’s okay. Your situation is different, IMO, than giving a dog dessert & saying dogs need to be full.
November 6, 2014 at 8:00 pm in reply to: Puggle Gets Sick on Anything Except Beneful #56473 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberI agree with the NutriSource recommendation. Let us know how it goes & like Nut says, go very slow.
InkedMarieMemberMy favorites: premade raw by Vital Essentials & Darwins, The Honest Kitchen (dehydrated), for kibbles: Farmina, Annamaet, Dr Tims
InkedMarieMemberI really think you’re making your dog out to be a human. They don’t need dessert, they don’t even need snacks. I’ve almost always had three dogs and I throw away more treats because they’ve gone stale than I use. I’ve never been in the habit of using a lot of treats.
I’ve never had anyone say you must feed dogs enough to be full. How the heck would you know if they’re full? A lot of dogs will eat everything you put in front of them. This is one cause for overweight dogs. The same for humans. I’m overweight but it’s not from eating til I’m full. You should be satiated, not full. How do you know a dog is hungry? Seriously, people say that and I don’t get it. They can’t talk, you don’t know, it’s an assumption.
InkedMarieMemberBoone seems to react to chicken. Everything else is a guess on my part.
November 5, 2014 at 10:15 am in reply to: Origin Adult Dogfood High Protein and Weight Gain #56385 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberpeople say their dogs are not satisfied or are hungry; I don’t understand that but that’s okay….I want to point out that if a dog is overweight, it is the humans fault. We feed them, they don’t feed themselves.
InkedMarieMemberPet Smart probably doesn’t sell SoJo’s, no offense to them but their quality of food items isn’t very high. A specialty pet store or they can be ordered online.
Annamaet grainfree is 41% carbs I think.
Farmina grainfree is 28% carbs.

InkedMarieMemberDogs eat poop for so many reasons, you may never know. The best way to curb this behavior is to pick up the poop. That may mean taking him out on leash. That may mean using a small kennel for pottying.
Dogs don’t need dessert. If you must feed a snack, Milkbones are not a good choice. Look for high quality low calorie foods. I don’t use many treats but I do have some SoJo’s that are low cal.
November 3, 2014 at 6:04 am in reply to: Something entirely unrelated to dog food. #56231 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberI hope your parents come to realize that you didn’t tell them because of *their*’past actions.
InkedMarieMemberBobbyDog,
You know, I think you’re right. If you are, that stinks. Evangers won’t get a dime from me. -
