Had the same problem on Acana. Add pumpkin for additional fiber to eliminate diarea
We have owned Rottweilers for close to 30 years. This year for the first time one of our Rotts tore her rear cranial cruciate. She is 2 1/2 year old and has been on Acana Duck dog food her entire adult life. She also received yogurt and pumpkin. Does anyone relate any of these to Cruciate tears?
Our 10 year old Rottweiler whose organs were all sound based on ultra sounds a year ago, suddenly developed a fist sized cancerous tumor on his spleen. Removed the spleen, but he died passed away 6 weeks later. Was on Acana Duck dry food plus yogurt, pumpkin, twinlabs liquid collagen, and apple cider vinegar for over five years. Does anyone connect any of these to carcinoma?
Hello
My Dachshund is a year old now and has been on Acana Puppy and Junior dry food. He has always been skinny But if I feed him slightly extra it upsets his tummy. Lately thought he has had very runny stools. Usually his first one of the day is normal but the ones that follow are not, I can’t even pick them up. (Sorry for those who are eating whilst reading this!!!)
I chose Acana because it was rated as a five star food but I don’t think that it is agreeing with my dog. I do wonder if it may be too high in protein. Where I live there is not a huge choice in the pet shop of dog foods so I don’t know what to change to. The choices are Blackwood dog food, Taste of the Wild, Nutri Source or one called Holistic Pro Series.
Has anyone experience of any of the above foods or suggestions as to what I can do?
Thanks
No I didn’t, my son feeds Now also from Canada so I felt good going to Orijen on advice I got from a forum member. I love the way it’s made & shipped with the air sucked out & everything in it sounds good to me & Pnut is very happy with it. Also got some samples of Acana, 3 different types…I give her one little piece as a treat.
In answer to the original question posted – I don’t think you will get a quality food for under $1 a pound in my humble opinion. I agree the food does not necessarily have to be on the 4 or 5 star listing either. I started with a new puppy (6 months old as of this writing) and I switched him from Diamond to Nutrisource large breed puppy. I think Nutrisource is a fabulous, easy on the system and quality made food, which is reasonably priced. The company is family owned and I believe I read somewhere that they have never had a recall. Because I want a higher protein I will eventually get my puppy onto Acana because I am really impressed with that brand and feed it to my other dogs, but Nutrisource is affordable and very agreeable with my dog and many other people I have talked with about this subject. Good luck in finding something that suits all your needs – as someone earlier said, we need to take many things into consideration when picking a food for our pets.
Hi all, my dog currently has a mild vaginitis issue as I noticed she was having a discharge. I don’t know the direct cause of this although she does have a recessed vulva. However, she is 9 years and never had this before and now has had it twice in the past 3 – 4 months. The first time, I took her to the vet and they just seemed to brush it off and told me to clean the area fairly often with baby wipes. The second time, I went to a different vet and they gave her some antibiotics. This vet mentioned that a food change could cause this. Has anyone ever had a similar issue and suspected it was from the food? I did change her food about 3 – 4 months ago to Acana Duck and Pear. The first time I noticed the issue was actually before the food switch, but I did have some Orijen (same parent company) duck treats that I was giving her at the time. Thanks for your help.
Hi, my Siberian husky had his first seizure during thanksgiving last week. He just turned 2. The vet was unable to pinpoint a cause, but I would like to be cautious and proactive moving forward while I monitor him for more seizures.
He’s been eating Earthborn holistic primitive with raw eggs, raw meats and bones given as other meals. I read that Rosemary is bad for seizures so I switched him to Acana singles duck and pear, despite my disdain for the legume content. I’m looking for suggestions on anything that might be better or if someone could look at this food and let me know what they think? I’ve also been told poultry could be bad for seizures? I am berg information overwhelmed and just want the best for my boy. 🙂 thanks.
Carrie,
Just thought you might be interested in knowing this; on the bag I noticed a company Logo : “Oven-Baked Tradition”.
I Googled them and here’s their website : http://ovenbakedtradition.com/en/
It has some decent information on the site, but no reviews. Hope it helps! Myself, since I couldn’t find more information I’m sticking with Acana. My dogs love it and according to the Dog Food Advisor site, it’s a 5 star kibble. 🙂
Acana DRY dog food (watch for ingredients even they aren’t created equal). My Pom is on the lamb. It’s been the best for my dog with Colitis (aka a Virus). As now we are finding out the truth about this thanks to people like the Medical Medium. I follow Dr. Peter Osborne the leading doctor out there for True Gluten Free knowledge. All glutens, that includes rice, corn, and please NO SOY! Make sure to add nutrients to your animals diet. Mercola Dr. Becker is one to research on her stuff. Please avoid what more all vets recommend. Specially Science Diet that puts them through school. That food should be BURNED! Most animal food is junk. I just got one of the better of the worst.
My soon to be 6 month old GSD puppy has been on Orijen and while my adult male handles it fine she is just having pudding poo, I think it might be too rich for her.. she’s currently 42lbs and I’m feeding her 2 cups a day so I don’t think it’s that I’m overfeeding her. I’m trying her on a lower protein kibble now, pine forest TOTW.. I swear I’d never feed a diamond food but I’m not as much as a food snob as I used to be I guess lol. I’d prefer to feed raw but with some recent health issues I’ve had to move to a kibble/raw blend.. they get mostly kibble but with some raw added in for teeth cleaning along with raw eggs a few times a week, fish oil and probiotics/digestive enzymes.
I really like the taste of the wild lineup being able to rotate differing proteins along with the price point. Helps me be able to add more raw in! I know their reputation isn’t great though.. Is there a similar food? I’m on the editor’s choice list and don’t understand many of the foods on there as most of them I haven’t and wouldn’t chose to feed. I’m at a loss and so confused!
I like Acana and really like the look of their new products coming in 2016, it’s just so pricey.. I have 5 dogs! I’ve tried Victor and just didn’t like the results I got with that, both my GSD’s got really nasty dirty ears on that food even the fish and sweet potato one… their coats also weren’t as nice. So what I’m considering right now is TOTW, Fromm and Earthborn. My big issue is my male is allergic to a lot and seems to get most itchy on chicken and pork. He looks absolutely amazing on Orijen six fish but at almost $100 a bag it’s hard to justify long term. So just looking for foods similar to TOTW but with a better reputation and ingredient sourcing, I also have zero issues with grain inclusive foods as I don’t think they are any better than all the potatoes and lentils in grain free foods.
TIA!
acana is high in ca;orie count and im not a real believer of no grain unless they already have allergy
I have a cane Corso and I had switched him 4 times before u found the right food. I also had him on fromm and it didn’t work out. So I switched him to Acana pacifica all life stages, it’s fish based but the first 5 ingredients is meat. Check it out and their other products. He might have been allergic to chicken, but all I know it’s been working, his stools went from losely soft to nice and firm. Also, look into earthborne, they also have a bag that has few meats listed before getting into the rest of the ingredients.
Hi Liya, change the brand of food, some kibbles can make a dog poo more then other brands, some kibbles make my boy poo less, some brands make my boy poo heaps more, try him on another brand like “Wellness” Wellness have a few different kibbles & see how he goes, what is the fiber % what is the protein % in the Acana ……..
Sometimes a higher protein kibble can make them poo more, my boy was doing 5-6 poos a day on 30% protein & real soft poos, I ended changing kibbles back to a limited ingredient kibble with less ingredients & 4% fiber & around 23% protein….
a lot of these rescue dogs are use to eating real cheap crappy kibbles & when they start eating a really good kibble they do sloppy poos, diarrhea etc so I slowly started my boy on foods that were 3 stars kibbles cause the protein is lower & I’ve found Patch is back to his 2 or 3 poos a day…..

Champion Foods, manufacturer of both Acana and Orijen, is already on the Editor’s Choice list.
Hi everyone,
I recently took in a small (12lb) stray and decided to adopt him for good. I’ve been feeding him my large (57lb) dog’s food, Acana. He likes it but he poops every 2-3 hours and it’s kind of soft some of the times. I can’t walk him every two hours because I’m at work so I’d like to try and change his food to something more appropriate for him and see if he needs to go less times a day.
Any recommendations for small breed dog food that’ll help with this issue?
Thanks very much in advance
p.s. My large dog has been eating this food for a long time and goes about 2 a day
Despite the fact that TOTW is now being copacked by Diamond I was this close to putting them back in the rotation for my GSD. There’s so few appropriate LBP choices. Even when they say they are for LBPs. Since not having heard any recent bad news about them I was going to contact for calcium amounts.
Thanks for doing the leg work & sharing.
I’m probably going to end up biting the bullet and spending the big bucks on Orijen or Acana also. It’s only for a couple months. Then I’ll switch to something else.
Hi, All –
My sweet pup has been diagnosed with severe left hip dysplasia and mild right hip dysplasia. We passed on the option for a triple pelvic osteotomy as when he was diagnosed we had about 2 weeks until he was considered too old for it, and even then, they would have only done it on his right hip as the left was too far gone.
We’ve opted for rehab and medical intervention over surgical at this time, knowing that in the future, he will have to have a total hip replacement. Hopefully we can put that off for a few more years.
My question is about food. He currently gets a rotation of Instinct Raw, Acana Pacifica (salmon) and Honest Kitchen. We are giving him supplements like Welactin fish oil and Dasuquin (glucosamine chondroitin w/ MSM)
Anyone here have a dog with hip/joint issues? What have you used? What has helped?
Hi all, I just wanted to follow up on this. Currently, I am feeding my dog Acana Duck and Pear and the Omega 6 and Omega 3 ratio is 2:1. I am looking to add fish oil, (Nordic Naturals specifically) to her diet. However, won’t this throw the ratio off as it may already be a little skewed? Thanks.
I have a (barely) year old GSD who has a severe allergy to any fish meal or oil, and a milder reaction to kelps and seaweeds. In the last year I’ve had her on a few different brands, but the lack of variability has left me stumped and digging around in my wallet. She was weaned onto Wellness Core and did pretty well on that but she eventually grew to not liking it very much and apathetic at meal times and for the cost it wasn’t worth it. Since then I have tried her on, Earthborn Holistic (where I first had a glimpse of the relentless itch of allergies), Canidae, Taste of the Wild and Acana for a stint. Preferably, I’d like something that gets 4-5 stars here but is also somewhat affordable, I can’t pay 40.00$ for a 20lb bag. The pup eats goes through about 60lbs a month.
If possible, though less pressing than a good quality food that I can get (a bunch of the brands I’ve been researching cost ungodly amounts to ship to me) I would prefer there to be a couple of varieties within the same brand that don’t have fish so that I can switch proteins every few months if need be.
Looking back on it that’s an incredibly long list, any recommendations? ;-;
Oh and by the way all life stages Acana food (like pacifica) are large kibble.
No problem! Fromm meets close the 1:1 ratio with all there foods, it’s a good high quality brand, it was unfortunately my pup didn’t do well on it. However, Acan Pacifica meets the 1:3:1 ratio. I only got acana Pacifica because it’s all life stages and I have a mastiff, cane corso, and on their page everyone recommended TOTW or ACANA and earthborn to meet the calcium and phosphate needs, as well as giving them steady growth, since their large breed. If your looking for adult food, majority of adult food has even a less calcium and phosphate. I was researching like crazy to find a good food and when I did, it just didn’t work out, so don’t be too stressed out like I was. Victor, candaie, and I believe nutro also meet the ratios.
Roger/Ashdad – Try Fromm (beef flavor and grain free) their fromm gold has chicken in it and my dog, had soft stools, your dog might do good on beef. I just started mixing Acana Pacifica and it’s already improving on his stools, it’s all fish based. Or you could try Earthborn.
I have a 9 year old shih tzu that is a little overweight and would like to find a good high quality food. She doesn’t need to lose too much but just trim down. I have been looking for food with a lower fat content but then noticed that sometimes the fat content is higher but the calories per cup number is lower. What number is more important?
She is currently on Grandma Lucy’s Artisan Venison but has a hard time getting it out of the bowl so I am putting Fromm White Fish and Potato kibble in with it.
The other problem I am struggling with is I just lost a dog this week. She had allergies and was put on prednisone and then developed small bladder stones. Then the doctor put her on Royal Canin SO (with me protesting but caved in). One week later she was in intensive care and in tons of pain with pancreatitis. She lasted a week (and over $4000 dollars later) she died. She was only 6 and I know that food caused it since she was healthy before and I didn’t feed treats or anything else during that week. Now I am looking for a food that won’t cause stones or pancreatic, is grain free and lower calorie, no Chinese ingredients and preferably organic. Well that is about impossible to find! I have read that sweet potatoes are bad to promote stones. Most grain free food contains sweet potatoes and then also low glycemic index food without grains seems to be hard to find. I know I am trying to find the “perfect” food but the pain my family and dog just went through was just horrible. I really want to do all I can not to ever repeat that again. Any suggestions would be appreciated! I am trying to take a step back and just go with a good food but then I get caught up in the details again. Right now I am looking at Natures Logic (but it is higher fat, acceptable calories), Acana Light and Fit (not grain free), Pinnalce, Stella and Chewy Duck (seems expensive), Grandma Lucy’s Pureformance (higher fat), and Fromm (grain free are higher fat). Help Please!
Acana is a good one to look at, their Singles formulas are potato and berry free actually. I was going to suggest Zignature as well since they are grain and potato free, but it has berries. I think most foods do, but I really have never paid much attention to the berries. What makes you think shes reacting to berries as well?
Hi Debra…have you looked at ACANA food…we just switched our lab to the senior formula ( she’s 12) and she loves it, I believe a few of their foods have no potatoes. Good Luck!
As far as dog food my choice is Acana dry
It can be found on chewy.com
But get that diarrhea under control first please
You can also try 1 table spoon of pepto bismol
Once in the am and once at night
But try the pumpkin and boiled chicken
Remove as much skin as you can
Let’s us know how your dog is doing 👍🐾🐾🐾🐾
Hi…thought I’d update this thread. Our girl had her surgery a few days ago…and she faired really well. The lipoma was big…over 2.5 lbs. So…I am happy with the decision to have it removed. She has a drain which will be removed on Monday, then a week later, the stitches will be removed. She came home the same night as the surgery, and the next day after the anesthetic affects wore off, she started having her appetite back. Aside by being a little uncomfortable with the drain, I am already noticing that not having that thing weighing her down on one side has helped her mobility. Thanks again for all your support with my questions. I have also switched her food to Acana Senior, and she loves it, but then again, she’s never been picky when it comes to food!!
I often feed my dogs combo and change their food every 3-4 months. It’s been great as far as avoiding recalls and it helps them create their own good bacteria. The body gets used to the same food.
Right now I have a 4 month old German Shepherd puppy. And I have been dealing with diarrhea off & on. I found out it could be due to teething. They produce more saliva. That ends up in the stomach and what comes out isn’t pleasant.
I gave him pumpkin, bland diet and probio. It helps.
Now I am giving him raw unpasteurized goat milk. So far so good.
The only thing is I am very careful about his calcium intake. He is not to exceed 1.5% per day. Even that is higher than I like. I try to keep it around 1-1.2% max.
I hate doing the math, but I know how important it is to control his growth. It’s important large breed puppies do not grow too fast.
Orijen is an excellent food. I am changing him to Acana. Orijen is a little out of my price range right now.
I would suggest that if you need to give him rice for diarrhea in the future that it be white rice not brown. The brown can be too much work to digest when their bellies aren’t feeling well. I used to give brown also until I was corrected.
Whatever direction you go in just be sure to keep track of the daily calcium amounts. Stay as close to 1% as possible. I believe the guidelines are .75-1.5%.
Often this mean contacting the dog food companies and asking what the MAX amt is in their food. They often list min amt if at all.
Hi, Omega Adult has Yellow Maize (Corn) then wheat bran then it says fat & oil blend & names 7 oils & fats, no good….next ingredient is Sorghum another grain then maize gluten no good, then chicken digest which is another name for chicken by-products feet, heads, becks, everything we don’t eat…Omega Puppy started off good with Ostrich, ground rice then bad yellow maize, Chicken, Maize Gluten, sorghum, wheat bran, then the fat & oil blend with 7 different oils & fats, I’ve never heard of Salmon Oil powder….
…… if you scroll down you will see Acana, Orijen, Earthborn Holistic or Pro Pac Ultimates they are better quality kibbles then the Omega Adult & Omega Puppy…
Earthborn Holistic & Pro Pac Ultimates are made by the same company & have never had any recalls…… here’s Pro Pac Ultimates Puppy Chicken & Brown Rice & all their kibbles..
http://intl.propacultimates.com/natural-dog-food/puppy-chicken-brown-rice-formula/
Is your puppy a large breed pup cause the Pro Pac Ultimates 12kg is a cheaper kibble with good ingredients or the Pro Pac has a Puppy Kibble Chicken & Brown Rice.. when you click on the link hover over “Natural Dog Food” & all their flavours will come up….
Orijen & Acana are really good kibbles BUT expensive……
Hi Mark C
I’ve used Zignature occaisonally in my rotation. It’s a decent food and my dogs had no problems with it. I’ve used Acana too. It looks like the kcals are about equal to Acana. Why not give it a try and see if it works for your dog? A lot of people (myself included) do rotate their dogs between a few foods and it never hurts to save money in the process! 😉
Good luck with it if you decide to try it.
I wonder what anyone’s experience with this food is. I am enticed by after reading several reviews about it. However; when I read it dog food and the ingredient list shows Salk I get a little skittish. Right now I Feed Acana which is a very good food and obviously on the ingredient list doesn’t not contain salt.? I would be interested in getting feedback on the Zignature food. Right now with the food I’m feeding I feed the single protein pork and butter not squash so the single approaching on Zignature looks close in the price is a lot more affordable so any help would be appreciated thank you
I think we can all agree that none of us are going to now or in the future order food from David T.’s site. It makes absolutely no sense. There is no way possible that he can sell premium foods that we would buy and feed our dogs for the price he claims unless he means the service is $39.00 per month and then the actual food has it’s own price. Also does not make sense. Why would anyone spend $39.00 per month for nothing. He also has on the section of what brands he carries where it clearly states Orijen, Acana and Fromm. Is that just a come on to get one to sign up because now he’s saying in his response to me and others that those are some of the brands he hopes to carry in the future. Well as those are the only brands that most of us would order why would we sign up. None of this makes sense. I will also add that at any point in time were he to be able to offer Orijen or Acana for $39.99 a bag, no way no how would I feed that to my dogs. I don’t trust what would be in the bags or where it came from. Anyway, I’m done on this subject as I think the entire thing, concept, explanations, etc. to not meet any of our standards for food that we would feed our animals. I believe we have given him more than his 15 minutes of fame here.
I’m sorry, but this is not about “lack of open-mindedness”. There are laws that govern federal commerce to make it fair to the manufacturer and the retailer and other retailers as well. Your website is offering foods like Purina Dog Chow for a much higher price than what you could pay for it at Walmart and then claiming you plan to bring in very pricey foods like Orijen and Acana for far less than what they are worth and what YOU yourself will pay for them. Under the policy I just provided for you Champion can refuse to do business with you if you refuse to comply with their minimum retail price, which you are already doing without even having their food available to customers.
I expect to see you having shut your site down fairly soon due to lack of funding since you will not convince manufacturers of actual high quality foods to sell to you based on your non complience with their minimum retail price and I do not think for a second someone will pay 39$ for a bag of Purina Dog Chow (when they can get it cheaper elsewhere) which is also falsely advertised on YOUR site as not containing corn, which it does.

Dear Pitlove,
Thank you for your response. Why would my business model be “illegal”? I am curious as to pointing out to me the code in the law that you are referring to.
As I explained in earlier replies in this thread, our dog food delivery brands change from time to time, and at the moment we do not offer Orijen/Acana in our availability, however will in the future through agreements we have with our fullfillment partners.
And as a consumer, it’s entirely up to you to have the choice where you would like to procure your dog food, whether it be from us or another preferred vendor.
Ok, have a great Sunday!
David
David- What I’m saying is, your business model is not actually legal and I’m willing to bet that if you try selling anything made by Champion Pet Foods (Orijen/Acana) you’re looking at a lawsuit. Their bags of Tundra cost over 100$ for the biggest bag. There is no way they would allow you to sell Tundra for 39$ without taking some legal action. Also I can’t imagine you would make much money that way given how much it costs you as the retailer to buy such a product.

David T,
I went back and read through your links and I still find them unclear, but I may be missing something. I do find several problems with your site. You state that you carry premium foods, yet the only choices you have are very limited (2 choices of dog food, not 4) subpar options, something I would never choose. So I would be paying $39/month for nothing I would buy. You state that you are different as I can schedule whenever when I want. I am signed up on a website for autoship and yet I can go back and change my delivery to a different time, any day I choose, sooner or later than the original autoship date. I can also change the products I want. So how is your ordering policy different?
I find it very difficult to believe that you would carry a true premium brand (Orijen, Acana, Wellness, Merrick or Fromm) as shown on your site and sell that for unlimited shipments of large bags for $39. A medium size bag of many of these brands sells for more than $39, yet you say the customer can order either a medium or large bag. I think most customers would be ordering large bags of the premium food that costs $100+. I see you do have a requirement of ordering 2 days after receiving the shipment. I’ve ordered online from several sites and some delivery times are better than others. Some come in a couple of days and others come in several weeks. Unlimited is without any qualifications but you have qualifed it by adding a requirement that seems to disallow unlimited bags ordered. This in itself is a bit deceiving.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/unlimited
I’m sorry, but this still doesn’t make sense as a business, which does appear that either you are very inexperienced in business or it’s a shady operation.

My boss and I just recently discussed this because she was pricing Zignature when we first got the line in. She ended up contacting Zignature because she usually refers to chewy.com to see what they price something for and then goes a few $ higher than that. Zignature actually told my boss that chewy.com was priced TOO low and they would have to contact them because they could NOT legally do that. That leads me to believe that if David does continue his business and adds Orijen or Acana or any of the more costly brands of food…he probably won’t be in business too much longer.

Hi Dori,
Thank you for your email and thank you so much for your valuable input on our site. Our brands will change from time to time, and we’ll be adding many more brands, including Orijen, Acana and others in the near future for different pet breed types. At the launch we have at this moment those four types, however, we will maintain that price of 39$ a month, irregardless of the type of brand we sell. You can see the different brands we sell at: http://www.petspectation.com/Dog-And-Cat-Food-Brands-We-Sell-and-Deliver.html and this week’s selections, that we’ll continue to add at: http://www.petspectation.com/Unlimited-Dog-and-Cat-Food-Delivery-Selections.html
Please do not hesitate to contact me at anytime if you have any questions, it would be my pleasure to assist you.
Thank you
David Tartamella
Well, David T. I just checked out your site to see what brands you carry and for the most part, and from being on DFA for a number of years now, the only quality brands that I saw that you carry are, in order, Orijen, Acana and to a much lesser extent, Fromm. Most, if not all, of the other brands you carry are the ones that most of us stay away from for various reasons.
I’m going to check your site out again because I just started wondering how you can sell Orijen and Acana for $39 per month.
Not long ago Publix recalled their chicken treats. I can’t find the ingredients of their food online, but I think it would be best to stay away from them. I recommend looking at Acana Regionals Grain-Free. Amicus is another good dog food. It’s very high quality and contains superior ingredients. I would try to stay away from any brand that has had recalls recently. Iams is a low quality food and contains poor quality ingredients such as corn meal, chicken by-product meal, dried beet pulp, brewers dried yeast and caramel. But, I wouldn’t feed Publix, if I were you.
I would stick with treats off the iheartdogs top 25 brands. You can’t go wrong with them in my opinion. All of the freeze dried from this list are great for training and most are simple ingredients, like Orijen free range bison treats ingredients are: Bison liver, Boneless bison and bison tripe.

It would definitely be easier to feed; however, the puppy has to have “puppy” food for proper growth at least up to a year. The rest can eat the same food but different amounts depending on how active they are & if they’re not allergic to certain ingredients. Orijen is the best though, followed by Acana. Avoid limited ingredient formulas, not enough protein. To make all the dishes seem the same, you can put the same topper on all dishes.
My pups were allergic to Orijen and Acana as well. I still wanted the same quality but way less ingredients. I found Zignature Zssentials and they thrived on it. Still do.
Ive had my toy poodle on Blue Buffalo basics grain free food. She does well on this food and likes it. My problem is i am a little upset about this whole lawsuit with Purina and I feel like I can’t trust them and wanted to switch. so doing a ton of research and decide to try orijin or acana. Luckily she is not a picky eater. Problem is she is having an allergic reaction to both….”red belly”. I’m wracking my brain to try and find another food but am thinking of keeping her on Blue unless someone has any ideas or a similar experience? Thanks for your help!
You are all wonderful, thank you for all your input! I have been looking at different foods and have settled on Champion ” ACANA” …as it is very pure in ingredients, and since I am Canadian, I’m happy to support this Canadian company. Our girl is not picky at all about food, and I am switching gradually. She is happy to eat whatever we offer her!! Darcie is not overweight ( 65 lbs.) and never has been, and behaves like a puppy still at times… so we are lucky her general health is excellent. We have not scheduled surgery yet, but will probably so soon…before the lipoma gets any bigger…I realistically know that change in diet will likely not reduce its size. I have great faith in her vet.
Thanks for all your suggestions!
I switched over to Acana pork (grain free) which is a one ingredient food with less protein and fat. It’s been a couple of days that he is getting only that, since I’ve mixed it with his old food for about a week. So far, no change!!
No, I have not tried Zignature or Fromm’s or Holistic Ocean Fusion but will look into it. I would think that the Holistic Ocean Fusion would be similar to the Pacifica that he has been getting except it is not grain free and would prefer that it was.
This can be a LONG process to keep changing foods and of course when you do that the stools are softer. I am considering doing NutriSan from Dr. Dodds to figure out what the culprit it. Expensive but in the end may save time and money. http://www.nutriscan.org/
Hi, pumkin is high in fiber, if it hasn’t helped firm his poos stop, he doesn’t need more fiber… Try another brand of kibble, one with less protein & less fat, No peas, No lentils, a limited ingredient kibble & see how he goes, Acana may be tooooo rich for him….
When my boy was on a higher protein kibble his poos were soft & he was doing 4-5 poos a day as the day went on the poos got softer & softer, I know when he was on a vet diet with lower protein & lower fat with limited ingredients, he was only doing 2 firm poos a day….. I’m feeding Earthborn Holistic Ocean Fusion at the moment, Ocean Fusion has the least ingredients out of the Earthborn flavours, no peas, no tomato pomace, no rice & no probiotics…..my boy is doing the firmest poos since stopping the vet diet kibble….

Help! My 20 month golden has had poo issues since he was born. The breeder feed him Annamaet 26% which I continued for a month or so and then switched him to Acana Wild Prairie. His stools were ALWAYS soft. I switched him again to Acana Pacifica, since I thought the problem was chicken. It has gotten better with the Pacifica but here is the wierd thing. His poos in the morning and afternoon as always firm, after dinner they start out firm and get softer and softer and come out alittle at a time. By this point he is walking and dropping little poos all over the yard. HARD TO FIND IF YOU ARE NOT WATCHING HIM!!!
He has been on Pacifica at least 6 months. I have added pumpkin to his food for months and that did not make any difference and tried yogurt. Sometimes I add string beans. Now I am thinking of changing to Acanca single ingredient pork. Just bought a small bag and have been slowing mixing in with the pacifica. Maybe that is how his system is and nothing will change it. But I am open for any suggestions, I am at my wits end!!!
