ParticipantHi Abby, just becareful with cooked rice, if he does have IBD as the rice irritates the bowel more & causes more diarrhea, I found grounded rice in kibbles to be OK but not the whole cooked rice, also if its the small intestine having the irritation you need less fiber, if its his large intestine you’ll need more fiber, u’ll just have to see & take thing soooo slow & u’ll start to work things out…Good-Luck
Susan
ParticipantHi Janet, my boy has IBD, try & keep the Fat low around 10% & under also the fiber low… protein around 23%, I know the protein is low but just try & lower the fat, fiber & protein & see if things get better.. I use the Eukanuba Intestinal low residue kibble, its the only kibble that has helped Patch, Im try & adding the Wellness Simple limited ingredients the Duck & Oatmeal..fat is 11% Protein is 19% I know the protein is low but I give Tuna in spring water drained with a little pumkin for breakfast sometimes I add a boiled egg to the mix..a good dog probiotic will also help with the sloppy poos…
Susan
ParticipantHi Abby, he may have IBS, my boy has IBD, I resuced him about 19months ago, Patch is also a stress head, so maybe this has something to do why they get IBS, Patch also has been on the Metronidazole a couple of times in the begining & had anal gland problems, vets put Patch on the Eukanuba Intestinal in the end, since being on the vet Diet Eukanuba he’s been doing real good, his anal glands dont need expressing by vet no more….when I tried to change his kibble last December I didnt realise that he cant handle too much fat, Ive found if the kibble is around 10%-12% fat he’s Ok, no diarrhea, also I have to keep him on a lower protein kibble & the Eukanaba Intestinal low residue is 23% protein 10% fat & 1.75% fiber, I think in America you have the IAMS but the ingredients are different to the Eukanuba has no by-products & lower fat & lower fiber then the Iams low residue kibble..I’d try the vet prescription, if you cant get Eukanuba Intestinal then the Royal Canin low fat is similar with fat% Protein % & fiber %.. Ive had to have Patch just on the Eukanuba for around 6 months, no treats nothing else, just his Intestinal kibble, vet said his bowel needs to rest & heal then when his poos were excellent.. I started to sooooo slowley tried now foods, also Wellness Simple is good with Limited ingredients, I’m slowley adding the Duck & Oatmeal kibble with his Intestinal the fat is 11% protein is 19% Protein is a bit low but if he doesnt get sloppy poos or diarrhea thats excellent, I also give him a small tin of tuna in spring water drained then mixed with about 2 big tablespoons of pumkin for breakfast, next week Im going to add a boiled egg to the mix as I half the mix for the next morning aswell..the Tuna & egg will boast his protein a bit more, I also use a good dog probiotic…Ive read that the prebiotics in the kibbles get damaged from heat & when transported if left in the heat or sun, so ur better off given ur own probiotic awell & a kibble with FOS.. I try not to let Patch stress & keep his routine the same everyday, I feed him the same time everyday, walk him same time, I also take him everywhere with me, well where I can, he loves meeting people..If I change something in his day, Ive noticed he’ll be real whinging & have his pain that night & next morning.
In Australia the Wellness dog kibbles are dearer then the vet prescrition diets, I dont know why, I pay $32 for 2kilos of the vet Eukanuba Intestinal & the Wellness Simple is $37 for only 1.8kilos…try to make him feel secure & in time he’ll learn to trust again, when I first got Patch he wouldn’t let me out the front door without crying & whinging, then he learnt that she just going shopping so when he sees my shopping bag he knows she’ll just be about 20min & she’ll come back & I give him his second bit of breakfast, I break Patches meals up into 5 meals a day, I found he couldnt stomach real big meals at once…its sad alot of these rescues have had it hard, not all, my last rescue was healthy wasn’t nervous but she was younger… Patch is 5 years old..in time things do get better.July 3, 2014 at 11:19 pm in reply to: My dog only wants to eat once a day but ends up vomiting from hunger? #46074 Report AbuseSusan
ParticipantHi Tracey, Shih tzu are known for stomach problems, especially pancreatitis, try a diet that is lower in fat, spewing yellow acid is a sign that she has excess stomach acid, are you sure she doesnt have acid reflux, my boy was suffering from this the begining of the year, I had to cook boiled chicken breast & boiled pumkin & also he was put on 1/3 Zantac every 12 hours 1 hour before food, this fixed the problem, as he hasnt vomited now for months thank- God, also kibbles are processed & harder on their tummy to digest.. You dont say what she is eating change whatever it is she eating, so she wants to eat & smaller meals are best 4 times a day, not the 1 big meal a day, as the acids will eat away at her stomach & will cause stomach ulcers in the end, a nice low fat dry biscuits helps..for her not to want to eat something is wrong, change her diet to a lower fat easy to digest meals & see then if she’s feeling better…nice smelling tuna or salmon as a small meal, I do the tuna & boiled pumkin for a light breakfast as Patch cant stomach his kibble for breakfast, I give the kibble for lunch & dinner but he’s on a low residue kibble that breaks up very easy & now Im adding the Wellness Simple Duck & Oatmeal, but the Holistic Select kibbles broke down easier & when water was added the Holistic Select soften real easy so he’d digest it easier then a kibble that had potatos..
Susan
ParticipantHi Zach, try boiling some butternut pumkin its sweeter then the other pumkin, try mixing some pumkin with some can salmon or tuna in spring water, drain the spring water & mix thru the pumkin, She may just dislike kibbles can you afford to buy her canned wet foods instead of the kibble, or maybe put the kibble in a snap lock bag & get a rolling pin & smash away, crushing the kibble, then mix 30% kibble with canned or cooked pumkin….
Susan
ParticipantHi Amy, its not the Frontline, frontline only penetrates the first 1-2 layers of their skin, My boy had a reaction to Advantage DO NOT USE the Advantage penetrates thru the skin to their blood, within 24hrs one side of my boys head swelled up his ear & his bottom lip swelled, & he was vomiting blood early hours of the morning, at first I didnt think the Advantage until I rung his vet. the best way to know whats happening is an elimination diet, for 1 month you just feed 1 new protein & say boiled pumkin or rice nothing else no treats nothing, thats if you think it could be foods, I used chicken in Patches elimantion diet but now I think Patch cant have chicken as the lumps on his head that look like hives got worst, Patches vet said that he has seasonal allergies & cause I just rescued him 19 months ago she said I’ll start to see a pattern, I noticed last winter Patch was good, no itch but the end of summer Patch got all his hive like lumps, itching & rubbing along the wall, this winter Patch has his hive like lumps again, so I look in Patches diary & last winter I wasnt feeding him chicken, this winter I was feeding chicken, so Ive stopped the chicken…Ive heard all these test are no good as they give false readings the best would be if you could try him on raw, Im just starting a new kibble called Wellness Simple it has limited ingredients, also watch his carbs, no potatoes, no sweet potatoes, no carrots no high carbs that turn to sugar that makes yeasty itchy skin.. If he can handle it i’d feed raw.. & google a good Raw diet for itchy skin..Ive been thinking of putting Patch on Raw but he has IBD & I have enough trouble trying to find a low fat kibble, so raw would have to much fat for Patch..also there could be a plant or grass in ur garden or on his walks that he’s allergic to, I’ve changed Patches walking route to see if that helps….Its winter here in Australia, so if Patch has enviornment allergies or seasonal allergies like his vet said, why is he getting them now being winter & he didnt last year, thats whats making me look at his food this year, I use Malaseb Medicated shampoo, & I use a cortisone cream when he gets some of the red itchy sores, I found the cortsone 1% cream is excellent Im just using my cream…just look at the ingredients in his kibble & see if there’s Potatos sweet potatos carrots, lentils any high carb foods…A friend from the dog park had a staffy that was so itchy he was red & losing his fur she tried the vet diets they didnt work then she tried the Holistic Select Adult health Anchovys sardines & salmon & her boy is looking excellent not scratching fur all grown back..so a few people from the dog park are using the Holistic Select with great results… Im also given Patch tuna & pumkin for breakfast to replace the chicken & his hives have gone. sorry for the book..Oh a good dog probiotic this will help too…good-luck
Susan
ParticipantHi Joey, I’m trying the Wellness Simple Duck & Oatmeal kibble.. the Wellness Simple range has limited ingredients…also I’d give a good dog probiotic this helps with sloppy poos & yes the pumkin also helps…. for breakfast Ive been mixing small tin of tuna in spring water, drain the spring water & mix with boiled pumkin not too much pumkin about 2 tablespoons.. google “Dr Karen Becker probiotics” she has a 14 strain dog probiotic..there may be another good one that other people on here use… also I have to get kibbles low in Fat% as that was making Patches poos sloppy.. the Simple Duck & Oatmeal is only 11% fat…

ParticipantThat’s her name Faith, there’s also another dog that looks like Faith, she was found roaming the streets of Africa, she had half her face cut off & was having trouble eating, a beautiful lady saw her & brought her here to Australia, so vets could rebuild her nose & mouth, then she was adopted by another lady…
It just shows how dogs & cats cope so well with a disability, never feeling sorry for themselves & other animals excepting them like there normal, I wish humans were the same but we arent..July 1, 2014 at 5:45 pm in reply to: see photos of dogs who lost their legs in accidents #45797 Report AbuseSusan
ParticipantAren’t they all so beautiful & so lucky to have parents that went out & spent the money on so they could walk again, alot of dogs & cats are put to sleep, The first girl has retired now, she always went to special disability schools & put on a show for the disable children…
Susan
ParticipantWhen you look at any small breed kibbles the fat is always higher then the adult kibbles…maybe stick with the normal kibbles & not the small breed kibbles that could be causing the sloppy poo high fat%..
June 30, 2014 at 3:12 am in reply to: Vaccines and Over Vaccinating: Do You Agree? Did You Stop Vaccinating? #45621 Report AbuseSusan
ParticipantHi Suburban Gal, I too dont believe in Vaccinating after 2years old, Heartworming or Flea products,
I rescued Patch about 19months ago, when a dog is rescued from a pound, we are given 1 worm tablet or 2 depends on their weight, 1 flea tablet Comfortis which I never used & the next day the rescue dog goes straight to vets for their health check then is desexed & vaccinated, the next day Patch was unwell & was crying after being desexed & vaccinated, so I rung the rescue vet & they said bring him in, they just gave me some pain killers for him & said he must be in pain from being desexed as he was 4 years old & the vet said that his shaft was all bruised around his stitches…..Patch seemed OK the next day but still had hive like lumps all over his body… 1 year forward Patch was due for Vaccination, I took him to his vets & he had the 3 yearly Vaccinations, vet never did his Kennel cough shot as I dont boarded him anywhere, we went home then that night Patch seemed unwell & was real sleepy, so I just let him sleep the next morning Patch was doing what he had done 1 year before when I had just rescued him crying & whinging, he wouldnt eat his breakfast, which is a first for him, so I just let him sleep, I googled about vaccinations & side effects & it looked like he was ill from being vaccinated, I rung his vet she just said keep an eye on him & she wrote in his file reaction when vaccinated, she said that some dogs that have Immune Problems cant be vaccinated…..I dont Heartworm either as 1 vet said the area I live, in his 30years he has never seen a dog have heartworm come from that area & he saw no need as its caught from mosquotos the vet said if I live out the west more 1/2hour away he would recommend he was heartwormed but Patch being an indoor dog there’s no need….when I’d worm Patch he was waking up about 2am wanting to go outside & eat grass then a couple of hours later he’d have diarrhea, no worms were ever in his poos after being wormed, so vet changed Patch to the Milbemax all wormer & I was to only worm him every 6 months instead of every 3 months, the Milbemax didnt have any side effects like the Propanal…. the flea products, Ive only used the Frontline spot on twice with no problems then I changed from Frontline to Advantage spot on as I give my cat the Advantage, the next day after appling the Advantage the day before my daughter came around & said whats wrong with Patches head his left side & left ear was all swollen, his lips were red & swollen & he had hive like lumps all over his body again, like when he was first vaccinated, I rung his vet she said just keep an eye on him as it was nilly 20hrs since I applied the Advantage & they have their worst reaction within 24hrs of apyling, she said that the frontline only penetrates the first layer of skin but the Advantage penetrates thru their skin into their blood, so I wont be using Advantage again.. So after all of these things that have happened with Patch Im not re-vacinating him in 3 years as he’ll be 8years old & I see no need as I think dogs should only be vaccinated the first 2 years of their lives but after 2 years I’d say that they have the antibodies needed to fight any diseases, with the Heartworm I see no need if you have an indoor dog & you dont live in a mosqitoes infessed area, with fleaing Im too scared to try the new Comfortis as its a tablet & may cause stomach problems. I live Australia & we dont have rabies thank-God..
I’d say your friend Sharon has seen alot of these reactions being into rescue especially with older dogs, I think what she’s doing is OK..alot of these rescued older dogs have a past & their health isnt always good…Your friend is doing a really good job for rescueing these oldies & she’s right if they get adopted & the new owners want them vaccinated they can do it, but I see no need, we are not vaccinated every year, so why over vaccinate animals.. Sorry for the book, but I had to explain why Im against Vaccinations after the animals are 2 years old…..Susan
ParticipantHi all, I didnt know dogs could take human probiotics, I even asked the Chemist man last year as it was becoming expensive $65 for just 2 months, & the chemist said that humans stomach acids & Gi track is different to dogs…I always buy Patch the animal powdered probiotics that I mix with water & he drinks it…I’ll have to do some research mite work out cheaper, the vets Protexin probiotic cost $65 must be kept in fridge… now Ive been going Pet Barn & buying Vitafarm for $19 a shelf probiotic & Paws have just released a new probiotic Digestive care 60 multi-strain for $36…

ParticipantHi Small, Patch is a 5 year old English Staffordshire Terrier a little shorty, Patch had an Ultra Scan about 3 weeks ago as he was having his real bad pain on his right side, thats how I went to a new vet, his Ultra Scan came back all good Pancreas looked good, Gall Bladder had no stones, intestines had no thickening but he said its hard to see the whole bowel cause there’s air in the bowel, I got him to look at Patches bladder cause when I got him he was weeing blood & had crystals the rescue vet said probably from being used for breeding & he was desexed, the crystals all diluted but I was just wondered if they had come back, but no, vet said his bladder has no thickening either bladder looked good, so I dont know what’s wrong with him, thats why I think vets say IBD when they dont know whats wrong & I dont want to have Patch cut open & biopsies, I feel that the results will come back all good..the rescue vet said whoever owned him before looks like he had a few homes cause he was Micro chipped as Patch but he never came to that name Patch, so I’d say the last owner never changed his name & didnt update the address on his Micro chip also Id say he was feed a very poor diet probably Pal Pedigree or Purina or Aldi foods..something happened in his past, he’s also a bugger for eating cat poo, I stop him but the neighbours dont clean up any cat poo lying around so I have to have eyes in the back of my head, the new vet said maybe next week put Patch back on the Metronidazole for 2 weeks just incase he has his stomach bacteria back again as his mouth is starting to smell again last December he was put on the Metronidazole & his stinky breath went away maybe he just keeps getiing the H-pylori Bacteria virus that gives you bad stomach acid burning so maybe thats what he’s getting after breakfast thats when he has his pain the worst..
Susan
ParticipantHi Small, I never gave Patch no Prednisone, I read alot & its a quick fix that doesnt get to the root of his real problem, It has helped a few dogs with real bad IBD but not all…I rung the new vet & told him that I still havnt given Patch no Prednisone..he said thats OK, then I said Im stopping his boiled chicken in the morning then he said if you elminate chicken I have to change his eukanuba Intestinal as its chicken & turkey, so I bought the wellness Simple Duck & Oatmeal the duck has the lowest fat% 11%, I swapped his chicken with Tuna in springwater he only gets half a small can drained then mixed with pumkin on 1 slice of toast to keep it down, as he was burping up the chicken & pumkin, he seems better on the Tuna we just had 2 days that he had his pain in his stomach, Ive read a few of Dr Beckers post & she said that some dogs dont make enough stomach acid, thats probably why when he took the Losec it made things worst as the Losec would of stopped all stomach acids & Carafate never helped, I thought the Zantac was helping but maybe not as when things work he lets me give them to him like his Probiotic I mix with 10ml water & he loves drinking it but when he sees me get his Zantac he’d run & start playing try & catch me mum I dont want that pill….I hate changing kibbles I always worry will he get diarrhea like once before, so Ive just been giving him some Simple Duck kibbles as treat & some mixed in with his lunch time kibble, but his hive like lumps on his head that he was getting are gone so maybe he cant tolorate chicken, but his Intestinal has Chicken unless the way its cooked for kibble in the end there’s not much chicken at 23% protein, if I increase his protein he get his stomach reflux & pain, all I know is when he gets whatever he gets, he’ll sit near me lift his front right paw & I have to rub his tummy & he starts doing his licking his mouth like he feels sick..I ask him do u fell sick & he’ll start to lick me as if to say yes…
May I ask Small what vitamins & minerals do you give, Im in Australia & I cant order the Mercola or Berte products they dont have a distributor for Austraila they need someone to export their products.. Ive looked online for digestive enzymes & I cant find none, so Id say Id have to get from the vet as they can order in stuff we cant..Susan
ParticipantHi Tara, my Patch also has IBD, & he’s on the Vet Prescription Diet Eukanuba Intestinal & a good Probiotic this was the only kibble that stable his diarrhea, cause the fiber is only 1.75% Iams makes a low residue kibble but its different to the Eukanuba it has By-products & the fiber is higher, Ive had Patch on the Eukanuba Intestinal since August 2013 to rest & heal his bowel, the vet said 1 year just the Eukanuba Intestinal nothing else, but last December I started trying another kibble which gave Patch real bad diarrhea I think it was the fat% or the potatos so back to the Intestinal then I tried the Holistic Select senior kibble Chicken Meal & rice I got the senior cause the fat % was only 10% & fiber 3.50% protein is 26%…but Patch also get Stomach acid reflux so now Im trying the Wellness Simple Duck & Oatmeal kibble as we just got it in at our Pat Barn he’s still on his Intestinal…. The Wellness Simple Limited ingredient has Lamb & oatmeal, Salmon & Potato grainfree Turkey & Potato… he’s the Wellness site http://www.wellnesspetfood.com all their products will come up, but few people on this site use Pure Balance or Racheal Ray Grainfree from Walmart..or there’s “4 Health” from Tractor Supply but make sure you look at the Fat % & Fiber % my boy has trouble with his Small Intestine so he needs less fiber if ur girl is having trouble with his large intestine she’ll need more fiber but having stomach Bacteria Id say its her small bowel like Patch… Patch had the H-pylori Virus last year & had to take Metronidazole to clear his bacteria up.. the Eukanuba has FOS thats suppost to help with stomach Bacteria also a give a good probiotic… even if you use a prescription kibble just until her bowel heals then like Im doing slowly try to introduce another kibble thats not a vet prescription diet, but when things go bad again u know u can fall back on his vet diet…
Susan
ParticipantAnita ur right about the Apple Cider Vinegar, after reading how it helps reflux & stomach acid on this site.. I told my daughter cause she’s pregnant & has real bad stomach acid, she bought some & so did I, she took 1 teaspoon & she said it made her acid worst & she couldnt get that taste out of her throat all night…I couldnt stop laughing the way she said it, lucky I never gave none to poor Patch, I think I’ll stick with using it as cleaning product & stick with quick-eze for the acid…..there’s also a book on all the good things that ACV does..
Susan
ParticipantHello Bobby dog, I’ve just been reading those links, Ive found a few un-refined coconut oils, but what is cold pressed mean, does it mean its not hard or is it white & hard like lard, also what’s a few good eating brands, I know Im in Australia we mite have the brands, Ive been reading how Coconut oils helps with digestion & kill bacteria..Also I’ve read about buying a proper fresh coconut & cutting it open into pieces & letting the dog chew on the coconut as the shell cleans their teeth..but I’ll just try the oil for now also buying coconut pieces & using as treats are also good, would that give a dog diarrhea. I want to stop Patches little pieces of banana of a morning & I was thinking a little piece of coconut instead of banana.
Susan
ParticipantHi, how much Coconut Oil would you give an 16-17 kilo dog thats about 37lbs????? & is the refined oil the best????? Ive written it down somewhere.. Also Patch has Diarrhea problems, vet saying IBD.. he hasnt had no diarrhea since last December after a food change, do I introduce him to the coconut oil so slowley, he’s starting to smell like a yeasty stinky dog..Im thinking he never had the yeasty smell last winter, so Im thinking maybe the banana & toast that he gets of a morning is causing the over yeast growth ..I started the toast as he has bad reflux in the morning, the toast keeps his chicken & pumkin down, Ive stopped the chicken as new vet is thinking he may have intolarences or allergic to the chicken, Im crossing my fingers & hoping it is the chicken thats making him ill of a morning…Thanx
Susan
ParticipantHi, sound like he gets irritable bowel, my rescue boy gets the rumbles, its gases going thru their bowel very uncomfortable, when I first got my Patch, he was having the grumbles & rumbles every 10 days, I think he couldnt handle high beef proteins, one vet said Colitis with the rumbling bowel plus he’d sometimes poo light red blood which suggest the small bowel, now a new vet has said that he has Irritable Bowel & wanted to put Patch on Prednisone, I said NO as they havent done a biopsy to comfirm the IBD, He was put on the Eukanuba Intestinal vet diet last August. Ive kept him on the Intestinal, the diarrhea stopped so did the rumbling bowel, Ive so slowly been tryng new kibbles, Ive tried the Holistic Select Senior Chicken Meal & Rice but I only mixed with his Eukanuba Intestinal which was good with no rumbles or diarrhea, this week Ive bought the Wellness Simple Limited Ingredients Duck & Oatmeal as Ive read that oatmeal sooths the stomach/bowel & the Simple has less ingredients & is suppost to be for stomach problems… Wellpet state that their Simple range is formulated like vet prescription diet foods without the corn, wheat, eggs, dairy & by-products etc… I too hate the vet diet formulas but maybe start with one just to get ur boys stomach/bowel better & rested like I did with Patch, Patch was on the Eukanuba Intestinal for 5months no treats no extra foods, then this year Ive started playing with different foods but when anything goes wrong, I go straight back to his Eukanuba Intestinal & start again so slowly…maybe give the Wellness Simple a try , the Duck & oatmeal only gets 3 starts on this site I think, BUT thats cause it has a low protein, the other Simple kibbles gets 4 stars & in the end if ur dog stops his rumblins & diarrhea who cares about stars http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/dog-wellness.aspx scroll down to the bottom & u’ll see Simple limited ingredients…also Patch is on a good probiotic for his tummy…Good-Luck
Susan
ParticipantHi, have you ever tried an elimination cooked diet, its very rare for a dog to be allergic to that many proteins, Id be looking at the carbs the fillers in the kibbles that you have tried & it takes a good 3 weeks to see any results, the best way & I know it takes time is the elimation diet… start with a protein say turkey or duck with some pumkin mixed thru for one straight month, no treats nothing no other foods & with the carbs watch out for wheats, potatotes sweet potato any high carbs.. Brown or white rice are Ok, good as fillers when on elimination diets… I use pumkin as Patch get the runs from rice but not grounded rice is OK with him….any carbs that convert to sugars they make yeast thats what makes them stinky & itchy….Im going thru this with my dog at the moment, he normally doesnt itch in winter but he’s itchy this winter, so now Im looking at the food, before vet said it was grasses pollens etc but its winter & there’s no pollens at the moment, Like Betsy said Im trying the Wellness Simple limited ingredients range kibbles, Ive just bought Patch the Duck & Oatmeal Formula, it has no eggs, no gluten, no dairy, no corn, no by-products, no soy or No artificial preservarties, colours or flavours, its a good start, also can ur boy eat wet tin foods they dont have all the processed stuff that kibble have..Start all over again from scratch, thats what Ive been doing this week, Ive also been using human tin Salmon to replace Patches chicken mixed with pumkin he loves it, but I still havent started the Wellness Simple Duck kibble as the vet said 1 thing at a time, if Patch can handle the Salmon with his IBD then next week Im starting the Simple Duck but Ive given him a few simple Duck kibbles & he loved them so Im just using them as a treat for this week so far there’s been no diarrhea, the Wellness simple does have a Salmon & Potato kibble but Im trying the Oatmeal instead of too many potatos try & look at all the foods he has had & see what carb ingredient was in most of them then try a kibble that doesnt have the same Carb ingredients.. thats way Im trying the Oatmeal its something Ive never tried..keep us posted, Id like to know how he went & what food you choose..but Raw is the best if you can handle it.. http://www.wellnesspetfood.com/dog-wellness.aspx

ParticipantHi, when its the small intestine ur right you need less fiber, large intestine you need more fiber…I have found, the same with Patch he doesnt do well on high fiber diets or Peas & Potatos, why dont u cook boiled chicken & freeze little sections & take out the night before thats what Ive been doing for breakfast, a good kibble have you tried the Holistic Select kibbles Patch on the Holistic Select Senoir its Chicken meal & rice & has NO peas the fiber is 3.50% & fat is 10% protein is 26% they have Chicken meal & rice but the fiber is 4% they have the duckmeal it has less fiber at 3.90% & less fat 13%..only their have a grainfree Deboned Turkey & Lentils the fiber is 5.50% but & it has Chickpeas here’s their site have a little look at all the ingredients & diferent flavours http://www.holisticselect.com

ParticipantHi Amy, where in Australia are you from, I live Newcastle, I few friends from the dog park have had great success with the “Holistic Select” Adult Health Anchovy Sardines & Salmon meal kibble, sold at Pet Barn or Pet Stock also sold there is the Malaseb medicated shampoo this kills any bacteria in their skin & has helped my boy its excellent vet told me to bath every 5-7days as soon as they start to scratch you leave on as long as you can about 10mins then rinse off & stay away from high carbs like Potato sweet potatos etc….
Susan
ParticipantHi Paddy, so you buy something that you have to add to their food, also if Patch was ur dog what would you do, where would you start, when I give Patch his chicken & pumkin at night he gets his gurgling bowel 2-3am so I have to stick with the kibble at nighs for his dinner,id love to either stop his kibble or maybe change his kibble, the Holistic Select senior is min fat 10% but max is 11.98% maybe this has been causing him his pain also the protein is 26% Ive found when I started giving him more protein he had more reflux & his pain. I was going to try the wellness Simple kibble heathy weight its 8% fat but the fiber is 6% & has peas is second ingredient then theres the Eagle packs new range & their low fat is 6% but the new formula is coming out until October..all the grainfree kibbles that I can get are too high in fat, I just dont know what to do no more…
Susan
ParticipantHi losul, I just read the first link on EPI & Patch has all those symptoms, wet burps, vomiting indigested kibble, always hungry, looking for scraps on our walks,Temperament changes, he has started to fight back if a dog bites him first, bad aggression, failure to gain weight, gurgling loud bowel noises, abdomin discomfort after eating..Ive quickly read & I never saw anywhere about taking Prednisolone, so maybe its good that I never gave him the Prednisolone, Patch had a blood test last year September but he never fasted for the blood test blood test came back all good.. with the Vitamin B can he take human vitamin B.. Im sick of dealing with vets they just read Patches notes & what the other vet has written & was doing, then just say the same thing…I found a holistic Vet but she’s at the same vets pratice that Patch was going too, so they all talk & will come back with the same crap IBD…

ParticipantHi Iosul, May I ask a few quiestions, Patch had an ultra scan last Thursday cause he was vomiting up only his kibble for 2 days & had his pain under right side rib cage again…his Ultra Scan came back all good, this new vet said IBD like Patches first vet has said but Im having troubles believing that he has IBD as Patch suffers more stomach reflux & burping, I feel that Patch has GERDs this new vet wants Patch on Prednisolone 30mg daily for 2weeks then we reduce, I told him about Patches stomach & Patches bad acid & bringing up his chicken & pumkin when he burps so I put it on toast now & this keeps it down, he just said give him Zantac as well then he said that the Prednisolone will fix his red paws, I told him that his paws go red only when it rains & he walks on wet grass as we’ve had rain again for over 1 week, now Patches paws have cleared up again cause there’s been no rain plus I try not to walk him on wet grass…Ive read that Prednisolone isnt good for dogs with Pancreatitis or Stomach problems as it can cause stomach ulcers, I still havnt given Patch his Prednisolone, Ive been giving him his Zantac again & Patch seem much better..see I stopped his Zantac about 2 months ago as he was doing much better & all his reflux went away he stopped waking up in the middle of the nite with Patch swollowing & swollowing acid, it all stopped only some mornings he’d be a bit burpy, The only way to see if he has IBD is to cut him open like his other vet wanted to do & I wouldnt let him as Patch doesnt have no diarrhea no more since Ive worked out that he needs a low fat diet, Im even wondering does he have pancreatits as the ultra scan came back all good but the Pancreas mite be getting better & not be swollen as Patches pain did start 2 weeks ago when I started moving, he started following me like I was leaving him behind, I feel that he started to stress himself out & has givin himself acid thru stress.. I have GERD & he seems to have alot of my symtoms.. first vet tried Losec 20mg but Patch had a reaction on the 2nd day his gums went white & he was acting real weird & falling over, I had to carry him home from the beach that morning maybe 20mg was too high for a 18 kilo dog he was 18kilo back then now he’s around 16-17 kilos …what would you do if Patch was ur dog, you mentioned supplements Ive read abit about L-Gutamine but I live Australia do I go to the health foods store & use a human one also what do u mean when u say incubating. I give Patch a probiotic every moring Ive been doing that since last August..Ive been too scared to try any oils at this time, I dont want to aggravate his stomach in anyway..

ParticipantHi Jerry, With EPI, dogs need a low fat & low fiber diet, the Purina one would have to much fiber for EPI thats why she is pooing so much ..My boy has IBD & Pancreatitis & was put on Eukanuba Intestinal low residue vet prescription this has really helped its 10% fat & 1.75% in fiber & he does just 2 nice firm small poos a day. Ive slowely been adding the “Holistic Select” Senior Chicken Meal & rice its 10%-fat 26%-protein & breaks up very easy, I add water & within 1 mintue the kibble has soften also the Eukanuba Intestinal softens within 1 minutue, thats how you can tell if a kibble is soft or hard the harder kibbles take forever to soften especially if they have potatos…hard kibble are to hard on their Pancreas & cause pain Ive found, can ur girl eat tin wet food cause thats better for Pancreatits a low fiber & low fat… there’s kibble & tin food that a few people on this site reconmend that’s sold at Walmart called Pure Balance or Rachel Ray that are suppost to be better then Purina one & are a good price there’s another one but I cant remember the name for tummy problems, I live Australia so we have different kibbles but we do have the Purina one sold at the supermakets & its high in fillers & the fiber is 5-6% I wouldnt feed that to Patch he’d be pooing & pooing & have his stomach pain..also I give Patch a probiotic to help with his digestion & bowel…
Susan
ParticipantHi, my boy was dignosed with Pancreatitis & IBD when Ive tried a kibble that was high protein Patch had his pain again, Ive slowely been adding the Holistic Select Senior health kibble cause the fat% is 10% the protein is 26% so far he’s good but Im still mixing the kibble with his Eukanuba Intestinal vet prescrition diet..Try to get a kibble similar to the hills fat% & protein % & slowly go up & see how u go, dont just go from 20% protein to a 30 something % protein he may relapse & get his pancreatitis again Ive tried the Wellness core & the protein was too high for Patch maybe ur boy will be different but just go slow very slow & see how he copes..
Susan
ParticipantHi everyone, the thing is he doesnt have diarrhea at the moment, he hasnt had sloppy poos or diarrhea since December when I tried a new grainfree diet that was 15% fat & was Salmon & potatos, So the fat was probably too high & maybe the potatos gave him diarrhea..He has more stomach problems burping, stomach acid & bad reflux & Ive read that prednisolone can affect their stomach & give stomach ulcers, Ive been doing alot of reading & have read that with IBD that the stomach can be affected, its connected to the small intestine & the dog will need less fiber but when the large intestine is affected they need higher fiber diet & Patch does better on a low fiber diet, so it must be his small intestine that has the problem, the only real way to diagnose IBD is to open him up & do bi-opsys & I wont do that, his last vet kept wanting to cut him open but the new vet said if the prednisolone works then he knows that its IBD & he doesnt need to prove it to himself by opening him up… Ive read that it can cause aggression in dogs… thats all I need Patch is a Staffy & has been bitten a few times by little dogs but he has always walked away but today at the Mall a little black dog bit him & Patch bit her back & wouldnt let go of her fur, the owner said sorry that his dog bites other dogs & I havnt givin Patch the Prednisolone yet ….Today Ive put Patch back on his Zantac as I took him off 1 month ago as hes been doing heaps better.. I have real bad stomach acid & take 40mg Somac twice a day & Im much better so Im thinking Im not on a steriod for my stomach acid… I think this new vet has read all Patches history that was sent over & read that Patches last vet dignosed Patch with IBD & seasonal skin allergies & thinks that the prednisolone will help his skin (paws) problem…. for some reason I wont except that Patch has IBD or IBS. I dont know why, maybe cause its Irritable bowel & no irritable stomach just something in my gut is telling me not to give Patch the prednisolone & the high dose 30mgs a day for 2 weeks..maybe if I give him just 2 x5mg tablets in morning & the other 2 at night instead of the 3x5mg .. my mum has Myloma & for chemo she was put on 40mg a day & she weigh 90kilos

ParticipantHi, Bloat is an awful thing to have happen, I had a boxer years ago & I’d always worried about bloat but Angie didnt seem to have tummy/Bowel problems my new rescue dog has had heaps of problems with tummy /bowel & was put on the Eukanuba Intestinal low residue kibble, I noticed that u say that he’s on wet food is that cause of him having his twisted bowel my boy cant eat wet tin foods they give him diarrhoea, my boy also is having trouble keeping on his weight even though his diarrhoea has stopped since being on the Eukanuba Intestinal I think its cause of the real low fat%…can ur boy eat kibble as this my help stop the diarrhoea or I do home cook boiled chicken breast with pumkin the pumkin has helped his tummy/bowel maybe try cooking & freezing some meals, it works out cheaper then the vet prescription tin foods..my boy was put on the R/C gastro first & his poos were always very sloppy then he was put on the intestinal…he shoulnt be vomiting & diarrheing maybe see vet for a fecal test & if he can be put on something else..its awful when its their tummy/bowel as they cant talk & tell us whats wrong, My boy is having an Ultrascan tommorrow to look at his Pancreas & Gall Bladder..
go to the Review section & type in ‘Low fat foods’ Im pretty sure the R/C Gastro is 1.75% fat maybe try & find a wet that is lower around 1% fat if he cant eat kibbles..Susan
ParticipantHi, also when trying a new food try one lower in fat% & lower in protein % as I know that Farmina is a high fat & high protein % maybe he cant handle that, also Ive noticed that u’ve been trying all Grain free kibbles maybe try a kibble with rice or oats just a few good grains he may do better.. My boy has IBD & when Ive tried GF kibbles that had potatos it went straight thru him I dont know if it was the fat% it was 15% or the potatos but it was real bad then I put him back on his Eukanuba Intestinal vet prescription diet, even if you try a vet prescrition diet kibble just for a while to heal his bowel & get him pooing normal again, then so slowly start introducing another new kibble but try one that isnt GF there’s a few good kibbles that the girls mention for diarrhea I cant remember their names, nutri source I cant remember maybe C4C knows the kibbles names for diarrhea, also a real good probiotic will help..
Susan
ParticipantSorry its ‘Rolled Oats’ not oatmeal, in the breakfast section..
Susan
ParticipantHi, sounds like ur dog is allergic to fleas as you said you washed him & killed some fleas… some dogs can just have 1 flea bite & they will itch, scratch & go mad with itchness…I know I wrote to use Antiseptic lotions (Betadine) just becareful with the iodine & antiseptic lotions as they will dry the skin more, they will kill any bacteria but will also make his skin very dry & more itchy, I only use when Patches paws are real bad & his cortisone cream isnt helping, another very cheap way to relieve his itch & dry skin is what my Dermo doctor told me to do, was go to supermarket in the breakfast section buy some oatmeal that we cook & eat its very cheap he said add some water & make a paste & I was to put this oatmeal paste on my itchy skin & face as I suffer from Scleroderma, the oatmeal will soften his skin & stop his itch & its cheaper also he can eat some & it wont hurt him.. try to leave on for 10 mins then rinse…I would try this before the Antiseptic lotion as it sounds like his skin is very dry & furless from fleas…you should start to see an improvment & fur starting to grow back within 2 weeks & try to keep the fleas off him, in the summer at night when Patch is sleeping I go on a flea hunt thru his skin & kill the fleas on him he loves the massage.. he often picks up fleas from the dog park as I dont use no flea products on Patch as he had a real bad reaction to Advantage spot on & was so sick for 1 week his mouth swelled up, his ear swelled up & was spewing blood 7 hrs after applying the Advantage spot on so vet has said dont use any spot ons or Comfortis she said that the Frontline spray was good but its dear if you have a big dog.. Good Luck as its summer over there, Im having winter & I hate the rain & cold, prefer the heat & beach..

ParticipantHi, you can buy online, but yes the Eukanuba Intestinal was from a vets prescription diet I
buy online now..
..Id say you can buy the Nutrisource from pet shops places..when they have sensitive tummys u have to watch the fat% & protein % as this can upset their tummys, so I stick with around 10% fat & 23-26% protein for now…the Hills Science diet would have been a low protein% & fat is about 13%Susan
ParticipantHi, I just read C4C post & I remembered Patch is on a probiotic, is ur boy on a good dog probiotic for his tummy & bowel, the probiotic helps their digestive tract thats what Patches vet gave Patch he was put on Vet Prescription Eukanuba Intestinal & protexin Probiotic for 5months vet wanted Patches bowel to heal…I couldnt give him anything else no treats nothing just the Eukanuba Intestinal kibble she wanted him on the Intestinal for 1 year but after 5months I started to slowly try other kibbles so slowly just adding about 1/4 cup to his Intestinal cup then if I saw his poo start to go sloppy I’d stop the new kibble & just give his Eukanuba & take the kibble back as they are guaranteed.. now I just use his kibble as treats, that way I know he wont have the runs or sloppy poo, Ive finally found ‘Holistic Select’ kibbles they are lower in fat % about 13% but Im using the senior chicken & rice its 10% fat & fiber is 3.50% Ive just been slowly mixing with the Eukanuba Intestinal so far Patch is doing really well I also give a little bit of banana or apple as a treat only natural foods no processed treats…I hope you find the right food but only try 1 thing at a time then u know whats causing the sloppy poo..Good-Luck
Susan
ParticipantHi, can you cook for him & only give him a little of kibble also can he eat wet food without having diarrhea, then give him the wet foods intstead of the kibbles..I cook chicken & pumkin & freeze about 2 weeks worth & take out the night before for breakfast then I give kibbles for lunch & dinner.. I cant give wet foods as the fat% is too high & Patch gets Diarrhea…maybe try a kibble with less Fat % protein % as Farmina has high fat% & Protein % maybe it makes him feel ill & he has stopped eating the kibble…dogs are smart if something disagrees with them.. Have you tried raw he might prefer raw…..Kibble was made for us humans easy & quick way to feed opur animals, kibble isnt that good for dogs its processed over cooked & hard on their digestion..

ParticipantHi, have you tried the Holistic Select kibbles they are Hydrolized proteins & the kibble is a low residue kibble…low residue means that the kibble breaks up more easier in the dogs stomach & when water is added to a low residue kibble it will soften straight away they are not real hard kibbles..alot of grainfree kibbles are very very hard exspecially if they have poatoes they go straight thru Patch.. I have my boy on the Eukanuba Intestinal as he has I.B.D, Pancreatitis & seasonal allergies, itchy skin….he was on the Royal Canin Hypoallergenic kibble & this gave Patch very very sloppy poos as the fat% was 19%, now Patch is on the Eukanuba Intestinal a low residue kibble fat is 10% it has cleared up Patches skin & fixed his sloppy poos… Ive been slowly adding the Holistic Select senior Chicken & rice the Fat% is 10% the Protein is 26% & the kibble softens straight away if I add water….. You probably wont find a low residue kibble that is grainfree, I prefer a kibble with just a few good grains like rice & oatmeal..I dont mind oatmeal as the oatmeal helps sooth Patches tummy & bowel…. http://www.holisticselect.com they do have 2 grainfree kibbles also..Good-luck its so hard finding a kibble that agrees with a dog with digestion problems, its taken me 1 year to find the Holistic Select kibbles that break up easy & dont upset Patches tummy but he still on the Eukanuba aswell I mix them together now or sometimes he has 1 kibble for lunch & the other kibble for dinner.. I ask him which one & he picks the kibble thats in containers.. I just wish I could do the whole rotation thing like a lot of people do on this site but Im just so happy that Patch is pooing normal & I can pick it up with no messes on someones lawn..
Susan
ParticipantSee I found the opposite, when I used a tea tree based shampoo it made the itch & smell worse, when I use a oatmeal based shampoo it seems to sooth & relieve the itch, so it all depends on the dog I suppose…

ParticipantWith food allergies dogs can have hive like lumps over their body, red itchy skin & diarrhea & other symtoms, it doesnt happen straight after eating, can take a couple of days for the reaction to show, maybe he needs his fur trimmed as summer is coming up if ur in America..vets normally have real good shampoos & conditioners for dry skin, I found shampoos & matching conditioner with oatmeal have helped my boys skin..
Susan
ParticipantHe may have dry skin & need a replenishing shampoo & conditioner, when he scratches look straight away where he is scratching, sometimes it can just be 1 little flea & some dogs have reactions to flea bites…
Susan
ParticipantHi, Omayra has ur little man been fleaed? as that is probably causing his itch, a nice bath & a good flea product like frontline should keep the fleas away Frontline make a really good spray, I dont know if it can be used on pups u’d have to check..food allergies are rare especially a 3month old pup, only around 5% of dogs will suffer food allergies, some may be intolarant to certain foods, & have food intolarences also look at the Fat% on ur treats alot of treats are high in fat & you can only give a few treats a day as they can cause diarrhea & muchy poo.. its best to use ur dogs daily kibble (Blue Buffalo) as a treat when training…..make sure you keep up with his worming….sounds like u are both sharing ur little boy so make sure that you both arent giving treats at different times & just use some of his kibble as a treat…
Someone else will have to help with the Raw as my boy is on kibble & home cooked chicken & pumkin..sounds like ur little boy has a loving caring home..Susan
ParticipantYes, Shasta 220 is right.. treating the outside is just as importatnt with dry itchy skin, you need a real good medicated shampoo that kills bacteria (yeast) I use Medicated Malaseb shampoo & bath every 5-7 days as soon as Patch starts his scratching its bath time…His feet are real bad at the moment cause we are having heaps of rain so I fill a shallow bath & put a couple of caps of Detol Antiseptic lotion in water & soak his feet they smell awful like corn, you can smell him when he sits next to me like a bad yeasty bread shop a real yukky yeasty smell, after I soaked his feet, then I washed his feet in some Medicated Malaseb shampoo the reddness has gone & he has stopped licking… so we’ll sleep tonight..try to get a medicated shampoo that kills bacteria of the skin.. with food low carbs no potatoes, sweet potatoes, any foods that converts to sugar are NO good as they make yeast… scratching can start the bacteria breeding & spreading, so bath weekly…. If you cant find Malaseb look for Paws (Pure Animal Wellbeing) Nutriderm Replenishing Shampoo & Conditioner for dry itchy skin.. I bath in the Malaseb shampoo then the Paws Conditioner, the conditioner u leave on their skin to moisturise & soften the skin..u’ll need to do this routine probably for the rest of his life even though they start to look real good & stop scratching you can then maybe bath fornightly, in winter Patches itch slows down, then when summer is back so is his seasonal allergies..
Susan
ParticipantWhen I first rescued Patch he was having the rumbling bowel & blood in his stools vet said he had Colitis & I had to cut back on the fat % Patch was put on the Eukanuba Intestinal it has only 10% fat & 1.75% fiber the Eukanuba has helped, we’ve had no more rumbling bowel only when I tried mince meat he was up early hours of the morning & I could hear him coming he sounded like a car engine rumbling & grumbling.. so now I boil chicken breast & add some pumkin for breakfast, I put the cooked chicken & pumkin in a blender & munch up as Patch gulps his food this way Ive digested the chicken a bit for him. I also cant give any treats that are liver jerky treats this gives him diarrhea & the rumbling tummy… Ive been slowly trying Holistic Select Senior Chicken meal this kibble has oatmeal rice & pumkin so far so good.. I add water just to soften the kibble a bit so if he gulps & swollows the kibble whole its softer, just make sure u look at the fat% & the least ingredients the better, pumkin & oatmeal are really good on the stomach & bowel also the Eukanuba is a Low residue kibble that breaks up easy so is the Holistic Select kibbles easier on their digestion…..Chocolate would be high in fat hard fats….Also the Holistic Select Senior is high in Gluosamine supports healthy hips & joints. http://www.holisticselect.com/senior-dry-dog-food-chicken-meal-and-rice

ParticipantHi Sara P have you ever tried putting shoes a dog, try it , I ordered Patch special dog water proof shoes He wouldnt walk in them & just sat down on the floor & wouldnt walk, putting them on his sore feet & not hurting his paws was very hard… he wares his socks after I put his Cortisone cream on so he doesnt lick off the cream when Im not home, but the shoes he wont wear if I brought him up from a pup then maybe but I rescued Patch at the age of 4, 17 months ago..

ParticipantHi,my vet gave me Iramine 8mg tablets, Anthistamine, but they made Patch sleepy & he vomited when on them so I stop giving them to him, but the grass has something to do with the itchy sore feet, especially when the grass is wet

ParticipantHi, my rescue English Staffy boy that I rescued about 17months ago sounds like ur girl, Ive been having problems with his paws & ears since Feburuary, he was put on an elimation diet I found he cant have sweet potatoes & potatos make him itch more probably cause of the carbs in the Potatos Ive found that when he walks on wet grass of a money his paws are worst, making them red & itchy Ive been putting Cortic-DS 1% cream that I use for myself this cream will clear his paws if I put on at night before bed when he wakes up his red sore paws are all better I go for our morning walk then by lunch he’s starting to lick his feet if he has walked on grass..with his ear vet gave me Dermotic (ear & skin suspension) these drops clear his ear with days of applying very good ear drops, Have you tried the Holistic Select Anchovy Sardines & Salmon meal Adult Health kibble this kibble has No Peas beef or Chicken & has helped my friend Staffy & Ive told another lady at the park & now her mix breed staffys skin & itches have cleared up..my boy isnt on the Anchoy sardine & Salmon he’s on the Holistic Select Senoir as he also suffer from I.B.D & Pancreatitis & the Senior is a lower fat%….I also have taught Patch No Lick & everytime I see him lickin his paws, I tell his no & in the begingin I’d put him in a shallow bath with Detol Antseptic lotion or betadine, & soak his paws 3 times a week this helped kill the fungus & bacteria inbetween the toes, also no Potato, Sweet Potato make the yeast worst..
Susan
ParticipantIve made a mistake, I wrote that he was on the Holistic Select for 7months before I found the Holistic Select, it should of read, I had him on the Eukanuba Intestinal for 7months to let the bowel rest & heal then I started introducing another kibble the Holistic Select senior..its been a long day, Im moving & tired…
Susan
ParticipantHi, when I first rescued my boy he would have the gurgling Bowel, I took Patch to the vets & vet said it was Colitis & to put him on a low fat diet, so vet put Patch on the Eukanuba Intestinal this kibble has stopped the gurgling bowel & rumbling, its a low residue kibble that breaks up easily & the fat% is 10%..I also could hear his bowel from another room & he too would not eat when this was happening of a morning he’d only eat grass also I would make him a piece of dry toast with either honey thinly spread or a fish paste very thinly spread as soon as he’d have his toast the gurgling would stop..Try a kibble with a low fat% 10% or under also watch what you feed at night… I dont give Patch no treats, nothing at night after his Eukanuba Intestinal kibble, this has also helped him….Have you tried the Wellness Simple range Limited ingredients they have the Duck & oatmeal & fat is min-11% u’d have to email Wellpet & ask what the max fat% is, they have the Simple Healthy weight at 8% fat its Salmon & Peas formula Im not sure about the peas thats why I havent tried as peas would give more wind pain..Ive been introducing Patch to the Holistic Select Senior also made by Wellpet cause the fat is min-10% I emailed Holistic Select & they said that the max fat is 11.98%.this kibble is a Hydrolized kibble & breaks up real easy.. I found when Patch ate real hard kibble he’d get the noisey tummy/bowel, so what I do know if I try a new kibble I boil the jug I put about 2 kibbles in a class of boiled water, I count to 40 sec then I get 2 small teaspoons & I place 1 of the kibbles that was in the boiling water on one spoon then I get the other spoon & push down, a good kibble should crush easily, a hard kibble wont crush & sometimes flings away..thats why I put 2 kibbles in the water just in case this happens but the Holistic Select Senoir or any of the Holistic Select kibbles are nice & soft after being in water after 40sec as the protein is hydrolized better on their digestion, Ive been trying to work out Patches health now for 1 year & we have it just right at the moment with the Eukanuba Intestinal & the Holistic Select senior Chicken meal & rice I only mix the Holistic Select & Intestinal for his lunch meal at the moment, But he was just on the Holistic Select for about 7months before I found the Holistic Select Senior, I did try a few other brand kibbles but they were too hard to digest.. Good-Luck also watch the fat if you give any treats or meats I do boiled chicken breast & boiled pumkin for breakfast as the rice irritates Patches bowel I have also tried the Eukanuba FP as Patch has itchy skin & the fat% was 15% too high gave him the rumbling tummy/bowel then diarrhea, the Eukanuba Intestinal is for their tummy/bowel & for skin problems it cleared all his itchy skin up but at the end of summer he gets seasonal allergies from pollens & grasses & there’s nothing you can really do for that except put him in a plastic bubble & keep him looked up all summer Lol
Susan
ParticipantHi, try a kibble that is lower in fat%, Fiber% & maybe lower in protein & see how she goes..thats what the vets did with my boy & touch wood he hasn’t had diarrhea since last year….he was diagnosed with I.B.D & Pancreatitis & needs fat%-10% & under, fiber around 4% or under & protein around 26% or under. I also give cooked boiled chicken breast & a bit of boiled pumkin for breakfast mixed & mashed all together, then the kibble at lunch & dinner….he does 2 perfect poos a day now.. I tried the Wellness Complete Health kibble & he had bad diarrhea so I never tried the Wellness Core the fat, fiber & protein was to high for Patch…but I have him on the Holistic Select kibble as it break up more easy & is easier to digest, the protein is hydrolized making it easier to digest..he is still on the vet diet Eukanuba Intestinal it is also a low residue kibble that breaks up more easy… Ive been slowly mixing in the Holistic select kibble, I have him on the Senior cause the fat% is 10% & fiber is 3.50% protein is 26%..just have a look what the fat% & protein % is in the Urinary Gold is see if she is better, Its taken me 1 year to realize that the fat% was making him have the runs & needed a lower fat%…poor boy…
Susan
ParticipantHasn’t the vet put him on a vet prescription diet to see if the diarrhea will stop, then go from there, I know alot of people dont like vet diets but they are money back if they dont work & they may help ur dog until you work out whats happening.. with a lot of the grain free kibbles they have potatoes my boy cant eat the potato kibbles, 1 they are too hard to digest & go thru him, also German Sheperds are known for Pancreatitis what my boy has ..My boy has I.B.D & Pancreatitis he needs a low fat diet under 10% fat also he cannot eat boiled rice as it irratates his bowel giving him diarrhea..I give boil chicken breast with pumkin instead & this has helped him also he’s on a vet prescrition diet Eukanuba Intestinal & now he is doing real good after being on the Intestinal since August 2013 now Im so slowley mixing the Intestinal with Holistic Select Senior the fat is 10% the Protein is 26% & the fiber is 3.50% so far so good…it will say on the bag of kibble how much to feed a 18lb dog…..
