So I tried transitioning my dogs to Small Breed Adult Wellness, and its gone awful, my 8 year old gained all the weight he had lost on Prescription Diet Metabolic and he wasnt overeating, in fact he would leave everyday his allowed portion; I also noticed he became very irregular and had looser stool than usual. My other 5-6 year old really doesnt want to eat, in fact he only eats when he is starving, any suggestions?!?!!?

I have fed only Solid Gold Just a wee bit from puppy through adult. No problems ever. Great food.

I wouldn’t use just a wee bit (made by diamond) but I would try switching. Check out the list of 4 and 5 star foods here and see what you can get in stores near you, clearly the wellness didn’t work out. What stores do you have that you shop at?

It just goes to show that not every food works for all dogs. Mine eat Wellness Small Breed (Simple, Senior and White fish and I’m going to use Healthy Weight soon) and love it and are doing great on it. I’m sure you can find another food that works for your crew. Some I like are Dr. Tim’s, Victors and Annamaet. Holistic Select is fine, too.

If you’re interested in Wellness products, try Core Small Breed. My Cavalier loves it and she does better on that than any other food she eats.

I understand that just a wee bit is made by the diamond plant in Missouri. Solid gold does keep an eye on them. Wellness and several other 4 and 5 star foods are also made by diamond.

I’m somewhat limited by my options, we have PETsMART, and a few independent pet stores, I’m taking one of my dogs to a specialist today to see what he suggest and the other one is going back on hills prescription diet metabolic. I really wanted them to be on a more natural diet but my dashound is putting on to much weight and what I would really hate is exposing him to herniated disk or arthritis complications. Lol, as I write this I am finding out that my mix dog (the one with the allergies/skin fungus) is going to be on royal canin hypoallergenic small breed. 🙁 I’m so frustrated tried natural and ended up with chemicals, I hope its for the best. Any thoughts?

Robin B….it was my understanding that Wellness is not using Diamond anymore since the last Salmonella recall by Diamond. I could be wrong, though?

Unless they aren’t being truthful, Wellpet severed all ties with Diamond. A food can be rated 4-5 stars regardless of manufacturer, as DFA rates based on paper alone. The Editor’s Choice and forums are where we get other tidbits of information

A few of my favorites: Simply Nourish Source, Earthborn Small Breed or the Grain Free (don’t love the the other grain inclusives outside of small breed), Fromm 4Star Grain Free, Acana Regionals-I’ve used others but those 4 are most often in rotation. Fromm’s is pretty easy on the stomach. You may try supplementing with some canned or raw to help get the pickier one to eat. You also may try out a dehydrated food-I like Honest Kitchen and Sojos, and one of the two of them will surely be available at your smaller pet stores

If you’re looking for a weight loss food-Wellness Core Healthy Weight has been praised on here, as has Annamaet Lean. I’ve never used either

    Hi Robin –

No Wellness foods are manufactured by Diamond. All of Wellness’s dry formulas are made either in-house at WellPet’s own facility in Mishawaka, IN or by Hagen in Waverly, NY or Vitaline in Hazelton, PA.

Wellpet and Diamond, both, would have to be telling the same lie for Wellness to still be made at Diamond. That seems rather unlikely.

When you look at any small breed kibbles the fat is always higher then the adult kibbles…maybe stick with the normal kibbles & not the small breed kibbles that could be causing the sloppy poo high fat%..

Vianca, you’re not limited, you can order online. Chewy.com has great prices, free shipping and a great return policy. Other places are Wag.com, a PetFlow.com and Petfooddirect.com

Unless you live in Alaska like me, or another hard to ship to area, then there is no such thing as free shipping and in fact some of those places wont even ship to us. Amazon and Petco are the best sources for the hard to ship to areas.
