Working now!
InkedMarieMemberI have used Zymox for my dog that used to have recurrent ear infections. For my dog, feeding him a raw diet without produce worked for him. He’s had, I think, two infections in five years, always during humid weather.
InkedMarieMemberI’m no fan of Hills but in this situation, I’d be happy for any food donation. Kudos to them.
InkedMarieMemberPitlove: your post from this morning about Pro Plan & it’s ingredients….regarding any dog food, how does anyone know what cuts of meat, amino acid profile, etc?
InkedMarieMemberHi Kathryn,
I have read that NutriSource works well for sensitive tummies. Add a small bit at a time and see how it goes. A good probiotic would be helpful.InkedMarieMemberJessica: are you feeding ground? If yes, look at Hare Today, Raw Feeding Miami, My pet Carnivore & Reel Raw. All have grinds that are meat/bone/organ and some have tripe. You just weigh it and feed.
InkedMarieMemberAnon: I saw your first response; there wasn’t anything wrong with it, you didn’t need to delete it. I agree.
InkedMarieMemberWhy do you want a vegetarian food? Look in the reviews (link in the red line above) for the Carna rating.
InkedMarieMemberWow Anon!
August 7, 2017 at 3:02 pm in reply to: Updated: Grain & White Potato Free dog foods #103495 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberBea: it’s been almost a year since I updated this; when time allows, I will again.
August 6, 2017 at 6:16 pm in reply to: Is starting a raw food diet this simple? #103479 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberRaw feeding means meat, bone, organs….it means a variety of proteins and MORE red meats than white. Go to Hare-Today dotcom, look for the raw food education link. Tracy, the owner, is very helpful.
InkedMarieMemberI can’t answer your question, s.L. But the better way is to use the dog food calculator here on DFA. You ned to know your dogs weight and how many kcal per cup of the food.
InkedMarieMemberI don’t know why the food hasnt been reviewed but there are many grainfree foods to choose from that have been reviewed.
InkedMarieMemberI have a dog who needs low fiber….she eats Earthborn Primitive Natural which is 2.5%. It’s also very small kibble.
This may not be the issue but worth trying.
InkedMarieMemberWhy are you choosing to put her on a senior food? Most are too low in protein with Orijen being the exception. If your dog is overweight, try Annamaet Lean or Wellness Core reduced fat.
InkedMarieMemberDid you read the reviews for it?
InkedMarieMemberGood point Anon.
InkedMarieMemberPitLuv: maybe I’m wrong….maybe it is/was selling dogs & cats…or just dogs. It was a long time ago so things may have changed.
Chewy doesnt sell animals but PetSmart does.
InkedMarieMemberMakes sense. I wonder when The Honest Kitchen ends their business with Chewy: they only use stores that don’t sell animals (this was a very long time ago; I assume they haven’t changed).
InkedMarieMemberAnon, what’re you convinced about?
InkedMarieMemberI would add canned & water to their food (I can’t help about food choices) and it is important that you make sure they have access to water and also ample opportunities to urinate.
July 25, 2017 at 5:05 am in reply to: BMD puppy food recommendation with protein 18-26% #103250 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberGo to the Diet & Health forum here and read the Large Breed Puppy stickie, highlighted in yellow, at the top.
BMD puppies are adorable, congrats!
InkedMarieMemberStay with the dosage for her weight.
July 16, 2017 at 3:07 pm in reply to: Milk Bone Good Morning Healthy Joints & Milk-Bone Total Wellness #103043 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberI’m not familiar with them but I choose high quality food and treats for my dogs. Anything by Milk Bone doesnt enter my house. Unless what you’re feeding is inferior, dogs dont need vitamins. If they have joint issues, there are many high quality joint supplements to choose from.
InkedMarieMemberI don’t know if this will help but try a lower fiber food. I am using Earthborn Primitive natural which is 2.5% fiber. Can’t hurt to try.
You said “I live in an apartment where I can’t let him out whenever he would like”….l’m sorry but living in an apartment is no excuse. You either chose to have a dog while living in one or chose to live in one after getting a dog; either way, apartment dogs are no different than home dogs. They get taken out when they need to go, unless you have trained him to pottty on pads inside.
InkedMarieMemberI used both PetFlow and PetFoodDirect before Chewy with no problems. my only problem site was, I think (been awhile) DoggieFood dotcom.
InkedMarieMemberI saw some current ones under “visitor posts” after I read your post. Seems they’re still having issues.
InkedMarieMemberI use ground (meat/bone/organs & some have tripe) with bones for gnawing/tooth care. It’s important to have a variety and red meat needs to be more than white. I feed prey model in ground form so no veggies.
July 6, 2017 at 8:42 pm in reply to: Senior Chihuahua mix needing joint supplement #102800 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberI have had luck with Glycoflex, green lipped mussel, In Clover Connectin, K9 Liquid Gold. It sometimes can take awhile to find one that works.
InkedMarieMemberI thought Darwins had “gotten their act together” but apparently not. Too bad.
InkedMarieMemberHi Rebecca,
After you go to the vet, buy a notebook and keep all your invoices in it for your dog! I have three dogs & three notebooks. I know at a glance what meds they’ve ever had and the results of all tests (I ask for copies).
Try NutriSource, great for sensitive tummies. You can order it from Chewy and probably other places.InkedMarieMemberDee: unless you know for a fact that your dog can go from one food to another without stomach upset, transitioning gradually is what you do.
I know nothing about this food but that is probably the reason your dog had trouble.
InkedMarieMemberI’m not sure what formula of Dr Tim’s is $70/40lb but thats only $1.75 a pound which, to me anyway, decent. Dr Tim’s has quite a few formulas, some come in 44/45 lb bags. Have you looked at Victor?
InkedMarieMemberI know a bunch of people with sporting dogs who feed some of Dr Tim’s formulas, Annamaet and Victor.
Look at Chewy dotcom; great place to order.
InkedMarieMemberHi Pat,
Regarding her being picky, practice Tough Love: put the food down, leave for 15 minutes. Pick up what she doesn;t eat & she gets nothing else until the next meal. No treats.
Foods: I’d generally suggest switching brands & types but IMO, you can’t do that until she isn’t picky any longer.InkedMarieMemberYou would need to tell us what brands that you have available.
InkedMarieMemberI have a dog who had recurrent yeast ear infections. For him, the only thing that worked was a raw diet, one with no produce. I used Zymox when he had an infection. I would not breed this dog nor would I have bred her mom (unless she had the issue after she had a litter).
Good luck!
InkedMarieMemberI cant imagine a cat missing fangs!
Boone is his normal self. Still wants to bark at everything outside so his mouth must feel okay LOL
InkedMarieMemberYears ago, when the aol dog message boards were still around, someone’s sheltie died during a dental so I always have that in the back of my mind.
Last time Boone had a dental, he had a tooth extracted & a few days after, he lost the clot and started bleeding. Hope that doesn’t happen this time!
InkedMarieMemberWell, I do lots of homeopathic/holistic but crappy teeth need attention. I get scared because the little poophead is 11yrs old. I worry about anesthesia.
He’s fine, very sleepy which is expected. Ate, twice, peed once. Will probably be a new boy in the morning!
Thanks Anon & PitLove!
InkedMarieMemberWe’ve had a number of shelties & two smooth fox terriers; crap for teeth. Boone isnt far behind. I have no family dog as a kid; I was 28 & married with two kids before i finally got my dog!
One of my groomers suggested to Steve that we see the person…I have no idea what vet professional she is, or isn’t, who does dentals for dogs who are awake. I told him yesterday why that is a bad idea…can you imagine her cleaning his teeth, when five needed to come out? I hate them being put under but for me, preferable to this type of dental.
Pitluv: I have all but one of the pre-dental X-rays, I dont know if they did them after. They gave me copies so I could see the damage.
InkedMarieMemberAnon: I’m sure he will feel better but I feel horrible that I didnt realize how bad they were. The vet didn’t say anything when he had his yearly, he examined, visually, his teeth; didn’t say how bad they were. Bone loss etc. My poor boy. Mom needs an adult beverage.
InkedMarieMemberFive extractions 🙁
InkedMarieMemberI have no idea if a Banfield vet is good or not but if this were my dog, I’d be at a different vet today. If no appointment available, I’d be at the ER vets.
InkedMarieMemberThanks PitLove & Anon!
InkedMarieMemberTimely Anon, Boone goes for his dental in the morning. Praying for no extractions.
May 29, 2017 at 7:13 pm in reply to: Anyone knows why Happy Dog and natures protection dog food isnt listed here ? #101612 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberNatures Protection appears to be out of Lithuania; that is probably why. I believe only foods available in the US & Canada are reviewed.
I’m not positive but I think only raw foods that are widely available are reviewed but maybe fill out the contact form below.
May 29, 2017 at 6:48 pm in reply to: Blue Buffalo Basic switch to help diarrhea?? #101611 Report AbuseInkedMarieMemberKathy,
Regarding feeding amounts….type in “dog food calculator” in the search here on DFA. You need your dogs weight, activity level & the amount of calories per cup and it will tell you how much to feed. Might be worth a try!InkedMarieMemberDavid: google Answers raw dog food
InkedMarieMemberI do more natural than conventional but I’m not willing to risk heartworm. I’m in NH, I do Interceptor every 45 days from March/April to October/November.
