I am very interested in the reviews on this food too.
The thing I do not like about it s far is Dehydrated alfalfa meal,BazuhiMemberNora
I think finding a great dry then go from there, you can add green beans which add fiber and makes them feel fuller.June 27, 2018 at 11:07 pm in reply to: Wet, dry or both food for small breed puppy #118262 Report AbuseBazuhiMemberI have 5 small breed dogs and when I welcomed
my 2 puppies of the group I
fed them 3 times a day and of course
I made sure it was not over feeding. I did notice when I was late my
one puppy would shake so he needed those 3x a day meals. They are now
6 years old and they eat 2x a dayJune 27, 2018 at 10:45 pm in reply to: Confused & frustrated about which brand to buy and feed my dogs #118261 Report AbuseBazuhiMemberVery frustrating!!!
Still looking for pea, lentil, bean, alfalfa free food
BazuhiMemberJust sent Sport Dog an email in regards to the size of my dogs
and if this would be a good food due to the protein and they do
only show extremely active dogs..
I am still having a hard time
April 18, 2018 at 7:33 pm in reply to: Grainfree and Dilated Cardiomyopathy Increase #113733 Report AbuseBazuhiMemberPS…medicle
I have to find the further articles she has found from other sources
.
This is not just applying to Goldens it is involving other large breeds as
well.April 18, 2018 at 7:30 pm in reply to: Grainfree and Dilated Cardiomyopathy Increase #113732 Report AbuseBazuhiMemberLynn
I feed Wellness along with other foods and at the time I didn’t know but I was informed that green peas are falling into the same catagory as the beans, lentils, chickpeas etc.
.
I feed Natures Variety …when I orginally fed it 5 years ago (Stopped for reason listed above) I could have sworn was made with Tapioca vs, beans, potatoes or chickpeas as it’s binder and will have to find an orginal bag with the ingrediants list.
.
I am now rotating in Earthborn Holistic Venture line Alaska Pollock meal and sweet potatoes.. this is the only food in their line that has no peas, beans lentils etc
The kibble is not tiny but is not huge( same shape as NVI but larger)
Fromm also has some foods lines with none
Wysong also has some food lines with none
.
Now there are issues with tapioca and some dogs with diabetes… They are also stating (Wysong ) that it is a toxic ingediant as wellApril 18, 2018 at 7:13 pm in reply to: Chewy is no longer it has been sold to Petsmart #113730 Report AbuseBazuhiMemberThe reason many foods have pulled out of Chewy is because:
They (Chewy aka Petsmart) are pushing prices down and manufacturers are not happy about it citing they don’t want small retailers to be put out of business, so they pulled their products to prevent the lower price being available.
.
Don’t get me wrong I love Chewy and recommend it to a lot of people along with adoptive dog families thru my rescue.
.
I did notice Petsmart and Petco and now Petsupplies plus have met Chewy’s pricesBazuhiMemberBernie,
I honeslt think dog food companies make their treats out of the same thing the dog food is made with and charge double the price. Mine do nor each much in treats and the ones they do I don’t worry about them since it is not much and not gonna kill them but I stay away from the cheap end stuff like milk bone etc
.
Richard
same qustion how hard are these treats after baked?
.
Linda
I had to chuckle forever to make?
Have you ever tried just rolling this on a bakin sheet?
How hard are these treats after baking?BazuhiMemberJenifer S
Where did you hear SportDogFood has gone out of business???
The are reformulating all their food because they are planning on moving to a larger
plant..the plant they used filed bankruptcy.
.
I am also looking for food without pea anything, lentels, beans,
chickpea… I was looking at SportDogFood but not sure if thier
protien was to high for 13lb Yorkies.April 12, 2018 at 9:05 pm in reply to: Chewy is no longer it has been sold to Petsmart #113535 Report AbuseBazuhiMemberYea I loved Chewy but now it will be just like Petsmart..
Petsmart didn’t like that Chewy was selling at lower prices
and were putting small retailors out of biz.
Petsmart states they are doing it for smaller businesses..
Amazing how when Chewy came along both them and Petco
both finally went for the lower priced food and free shipping
over $49.. but that will now change I am sure.BazuhiMemberHmmmm
I wouldn’t think corn ingrediant would make it to a 4 star
food myselfApril 12, 2018 at 6:54 pm in reply to: Grainfree and Dilated Cardiomyopathy Increase #113528 Report AbuseBazuhiMemberOne dog food company has even pulled their food and reformulating it to eliminate all those ingredients.
I am very concerned.
Adding taurine while eating any of these items which prohibits absorption will not do any good..
I never went the total legume route cause I figured my dogs would probably be in pain from gas….. but peas I thought were safe and well chickpeas only because all dog food seems to have it..
My sister and I are finding more and more articles and studies that seem to show this
Grain free is a really a new market out there and some are saying go with plant based and add your protein
.
Sport Dog Elite Series dog food is one company that has pulled its food to reformulateBazuhiMemberI fed my dogs Natures Variety which is a meat based food vs plant based and they did great on it and the kibble is small and it is all life stages
I have also tried other food with the high amounts of peas, lentils, chickpeas to bother my
dogs and gave them painful gas issuesMarch 28, 2018 at 9:48 pm in reply to: Low Fat Diet for a yellow lab with Pancreatitis #112836 Report AbuseBazuhiMemberMy 95lb Spitz/Husky dog lost weight on Wellness core Reduced Fat
and got down to 75lbs and did great on it. I did add green beans
to his food so he did feel a little fuller but do not know if it is safe
for pancreatitis prone dogsBazuhiMemberRick W I use my dogs regular dog food for treats LOL They seem to enjoy it
…
Or use cooked chicken breast/good beed in very small amounts.. better then the treats on the marketMarch 28, 2018 at 9:23 pm in reply to: Why are there so many grain-free foods now? #112831 Report AbuseBazuhiMemberSuzanne
I was going to once feed my pups Orijen but I read the reviews from the
people and many people stated it seemed a very rich food and cause many
dogs to have very loose stools.
I do not know if chicken is actually the culprit, I would look at the ingredients in your old food and see what is new in this food and it could be a yeast issue or other ingredient in the new food that was not in the old food. I assume you did a slow transition this food may have more fat/protein content then your other food. My moms dog is on Orijen and does well I never tried it with mine I didn’t want that high of a protein.
Oh and my dogs when younger had an itch issue and I thought it as chicken and it turned out to be gaur gum that was in the new food vs old foodBazuhiMemberMy small breeds are on the Wellness core original (Yorkie mixes and a poodle) (5 dogs)
They have also eaten the low fat variety because back then I had a large breed that was very overweight and he was put on a diet using the low fat with great success..
(That was when I found the Dogfood Advisor BTW)
I do have to grind up the kibble for my one dog in my bullet since he has trachea issues and the kibble is slightly large for him (He didn’t have issues in the past he is now 6yrs old) I top mine off with 5 star grain free canned which currently Natures Domain grain free from Costco and I decided to now try Freshpet (the non grain free since it is rated better then the grain free) I have also done Grandma Lucy’s Pureformance as a topper too but I have called them several times and they can not give me the sodium levels in their food so I use it from time to time.
Mine are doing great but I also rotate to different grain free foods on occasions. I am now switching to Natures Variety and they have been that on the past and have done well but I like the smaller kibble too.
The weight issue of you one dog… you need to measure the dogs food based on the calories he should get.. It took me forever to figure it out since I am not a math wiz but 3 of my dogs get 2.5 table spoons of dry kibble and 2 heaping tablespoons of the topper and the other 2 dogs get 3.5 tbsp of the dry and the 2 heapings of the topper.
I do feed my dogs 2x a day I feel it’s better (They did eat 3x but they decided it was too much)
I do feed treats too so that is why my food is slightly less probable then it should be
But this is just what I do I am no guru that’s for sureBazuhiMemberI have both large breed seniors and many of them and now I have a senior small breed along with younger ones and as long as their weight is great I continue to feed them high end 5 star rated all stages food.
My labs lived to 12 and 16 year with no issues and never ate senior dog foodBazuhiMemberI found it on their Facebook page and from the readers it seems a lot of stores are only now carrying the small bags and some are always out of it. They also have been asked who makes the kibble and the people are told to call customer service and customer service can nmot answer the question either. It also seems like this is Shep Pure Being renamed Heart to Tail Pure Being. I just did little googling and I know nothing more then you. It would be great to find another low cost 5 star canned dog food that is for sure but not sure about this one.
