MemberThe proof is in the photos! He looks great. You never know, you mentioned in the past you initially thought he had allergies to grass and although it looks like allot of issues were his diet maybe a little is the outdoors too. I know from experience it is horrible to see your dog scratching and licking himself constantly; knowing they are physically uncomfortable and not feeling well is awful! Anyway, good job taking care of him!!!

ParticipantThought I’d share a little picture with you guys 🙂 The cat was laying in Bentley’s bed, as he always does when he wants something cushier than the one on top of his cat tree. I went to the bathroom, and Bentley always lays in his bed to wait for who ever is in there to come out (its right outside the door). Well, Bentley didn’t appreciate the cat messing up his routine, so he just laid right on top of him! He wasn’t too pleased about someone else being in his bed, either LOL
Of course, the cat’s just laying there like, “yeah, whatever. I’m a cat, love me!” XD

ParticipantHey guys! I have a request for you all 🙂
I would like to see how many times we can all donate (food, treats, supplies, money, time, anything!) to our local shelters in just two weeks. Dig through your stashes, find some coupons in your local papers and online, rally up your friends and family, open up your hearts, and help out those in need!
All I would like to see is a head count. You don’t have to share what you donated, just that you did.
Who’s up for it?!
I’ve got my first run ready for tomorrow, and after another couple couponing trips, I should have some more here soon 🙂
Akari_32
ParticipantToday’s haul!
Total out of pocket: $0.36
Total savings: $80.19This may be my best haul ever! Very happy I decided to print out those $1 off any can coupons, because the bags (and cans) were on clearance, which means they are extra 30% off the clearance prices, and I would have paid $6 a bag if I hadn’t printed those extra coupons! I wish I’d’ve printed a few more though, because I wanted 4 bags. Oh well, this worked out great, and I paid even less total than I was thinking I was going to be paying per bag (which would have been $1.97 plus tax if it wasn’t for the weird clearance deals lol).
So, in three separate orders I did:
1x $5 off Wellness Manufacturer coupon
1x $5 off any Natural or Specialized brand PetSmart coupon
3x $1 off any Wellness can coupons1 4lb bag of Wellness Toy Breed Senior (the only clearance bags they had left)
4x 6 oz cans of Wellness Senior (again, the only one on clearance)
Bags were on clearance for $11.97 each. After additional 30% off they were $8.38 each
Cans were on clearance for $1.50, and after the additional 30% was applied, they were $1.05.Had I had more than 10 $1 off can coupons, I could have gotten a crap ton of cans, but I forgot the clearance items were extra 30% off and wasn’t even expecting to buy cans in the first place, just the bags, but the price of the bags after the extra 30% wouldn’t have let me get the best deal. This worked out great, though, for totally messing me up! LOL I’m very happy over all, and the cans will be going to the local shelter, along with some other food I’ve accumulated and decided to not use lol

ParticipantThanks guys! Tabitha, it is his back right leg, yes.
As for how any of this may have happened, who knows. He’s so active and clumsy, it really could be anything. He acts like a young Lab, running around like a bulldozer. Like, think of Marley and Me, and make Marley about 13 times smaller, and that’s how Bentley is. The vet is an orthopedic vet, but does all the normal vet stuff, as well. He said he wasn’t too worried about either of his problems at this point, and gave the Previcox to reduce the inflammation and take away the pain of the disk, so that it didn’t become a real problem. He gave a 10 day script, but said to just use it for 5 days, and the rest for if he needs it later.
This morning, when we first got up, he was moving around fine, and was even doing ok at the vet. But after he had been moving around for a while (we got to the vet 30 minutes before they start appointments, so I let him walk around the waiting room off leash, and went out for a potty break while we waited), he started to get a little sore. The vet also messed around with his knee cap, which he totally flipped out about, so I’m sure that added to his ouchiness. He kept a good trot all the way to the car, though (by choice– he was ready to get outta there lol) but did “skip” with his bad leg every step rather than every 10-20 like he used to, and jumped up into the car (after I told him to wait so I could pick him up. Brat….). By the time we got home, he was limping just a little bit. If I didn’t see this dog walk every day for the last two years, I probably wouldn’t have even I noticed he was limping. It looks like, right now, he’s sore when he firsts gets started, and then once a he’s going, he good.
I was watching him walk tonight, now that I’m home from work, and his bad leg seems very fluid in it’s motions, and his hips swing out farther. Looks like he’s doing his best to keep from bending that knee. More power to him I suppose.I know “fluid” and “not bending” don’t really go together, but that’s what he’s doing lol I’ll have t try for a video of him walking so you guys can see what I’m talking about.
He’s still jumping on all the furniture, which is driving me crazy. It’ll take a lot of work to keep him from doing that! I keep telling him to wait when I see him going for the bed or couch (or the floor, for that matter), but that terrier mentally blocks me out about half the time. My guess is whatever happened last night has really stressed either the nerves or the muscles, etc in his leg, and they’ll be messed up for a while, and maybe even forever. Oh! And tonight, he did lift his leg and pee, and used his bad leg to support himself (lifting his good leg), so it either really can’t hurt that bad, or he’s just stubborn. Probably a little of both lol He did jump off the bed before I could grab and he came back in about a minute later with a sad look on his face. He landed pretty hard, and imagine it hurt. Who knows if it was his back or his knee, though.
So, for now we are all just going to watch him, and see how he does for a while. If he continues limping too much, I’ll talk to the vet. I’m there for my internship twice a week anyways, so I can always just ask him when there, and he wants to see him, I’ll take him. If he was going to be as bad this morning as he was last night, I was all prepared to ask for x-rays, because last night was terrible. But he seems ok for now, so we’ll just hang out and keep an eye on him. And try out best to keep him from getting on and off the furniture by himself lol
I posted some house rules when it comes to Bentley. I resisted the urge to write “NO FUN” on there LOL
He’s not too happy about them.

ParticipantI have a pie shaped lot. Large back yard and small front. Greenbelt behind me. One neighbor to the right and one neighbor across from my side driveway. Actually I bought my first pug at Dog Alley in ******. He was so active and wild, I had to adopt him a brother to play with. So we did. Then we got an email a year later from the rescue that they were seeking foster homes. So we volunteered for that and adopted are first foster pug. That made 3 for us. Several pugs later and a year later, we fostered and adopted Missy Poo, our 4th pug (who has passed). We haven’t stopped fostering for 5 years now. While we do have 3 pugs of our own, they rest we just dog sit and they aren’t at my house permanently.
This picture might show a 1/3 of my back yard. I’d always wanted my own tennis court in it!! But so far, I’ve given the dogs and chickens 1/4 of the yard.

ParticipantThat dog supply room was the 3rd bedroom. My breakfast room was made into the dog’s room (before fostering) by putting down an iron gate. Now since fostering, it’s the foster’s room. Ordered 3 custom cage banks for the pugs and had Elfe shelving put in. So my breakfast table and china cabinet is the living room with the couch and tv.
I take care of them by myself while hubby works way too many hours. Feeding, watering, plants, chickens and poop duty takes about an hour in the morning. The dogs get out 4 times a day if they have heartworm, then back to their crate to rest. The others can use the doggy door.
Other days, I might be the pug taxi taking them to their dr appt or to go see a possible adopter. 252 pugs and counting…

ParticipantHe-he! That’s just one wall. The closet wall has bags of kibbles and my personal small kitchen equipment and vitamins/supplements. The the third wall has some more foods, boxes of Halo Herbal Dip, other topicals for the fosters, extra dog beds, shampoos, cases of Merrick GI Bones, Ranger Ribs and Flossies. And I keep chicken treats in there too (tubs of Mother Clucker, Chicken Crack and Cluck Yah) and I just put three 7.1 cu ft freezers in that room too to fill with the 8 cases I just ordered from greentripe.com. And here’s the dog freezer in the garage:
My personal dogs aren’t eating much kibble right now! I have 3 personal pugs and the rest are fosters. Sometimes I have up to 12 pugs total and they usually eat 1 cup of kibble per day with some toppers. Sometimes I give them a whole raw egg fresh from the coop! So to me, it really doesn’t matter too much if BDN is not aafco compliant like Neezerfan.
Here’s a picture of bath day:

ParticipantI still have a case of BDN to use up. I use it as a topper in rotation with my other toppers. Dori, have you seen my dog supply room? I have lots of topper choices! BDN rehydrates well and looks like cooked ground beef when it’s ready to feed. If you send an email to them, the owner will reply quickly. There were questions about this food regarding it’s GA and it’s calcium level and Ca:Phos ratio. I just use it as an unbalanced topper.

Case,
Thank you for your interest in Earthborn Holistic Natural Food for Pets. I do not have this information. I can see if our nutritionist has it available. Cindy,
The info that I’m seeking is in no way detailed. Many manufacturers print it on their bags. Orijen puppy
food for example is 80% meat ingredients, 20% plant ingredients. There are many other companies that share this info. It doesn’t offer any real insight on the formula. Thanks for your time,
CaseI never heard anything back so I wrote Cindy again yesterday:
Hi Cindy,
Any word on the percentages?
Here’s a photo of the food that I’m currently feeding to demonstrate that I am an actual customer with a simple inquiry. The Primitive Naturals is for my nine month old APBT, I’d love to feed it to my six month old Great Dane as well, but from what I understand the calcium content is too high, so she gets Meadow Feast.
Thanks again,
CaseI also made the same inquiry on their Facebook page, where my question was basically ignored and then deleted.
Are any of you guys aware of these %s? Is it unreasonable to ask Earthborn for this information?

pugmomsandy
ParticipantThe 80/10/10 numbers for raw feeding is an “average”. But what’s included in the average? Small whole animals whose bones can be consumed and larger animals whose bones cannot! For instance, let’s say a wolf eats mostly muscle/organs from a bison and hardly any of it’s bones because they’re too dense. Just have to keep in mind the phrase “balance over time” when feeding raw. But since you are going by a recipe, your food should end up mostly balanced than not! Liver should ideally be not more than 5%. Sometimes I add more muscle meat and sometimes I don’t. So sometimes my batch is around 30% bone and sometimes near 10%. I’m not exact all the time. I add heart, gizzard, tripe or muscle meat like thighs as additional “muscle meat” and have to do some algebra to figure it all out! For 5 lbs of whole chicken that’s around 30% bone, I can add up to 9.5 lbs of muscle and half a pound of additional liver to make it around 10% bone and around 5% liver. I haven’t seen (or looked for) bone content numbers for whole calf. I use preymodelraw.com for some figures on bone content. This is just what I do. http://preymodelraw.com/page/articles.html/_/raw-chat/common-cuts-a-photographic-guide-to-raw-meaty-r15

ParticipantHey guys! I’m back from vacation and stopping in with some pics. No food updates, though, other than he seems to be enjoying his new rotation.
We went to Universal and Islands of Adventure (HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!) and Epcot. It was my first time to Epcot, and my bazillianth time to Universal and Islands of Adventure. Epcot was pretty cool, but there’s no rides (not like Universal and Islands of Adventure), and the “countries” are too small. Not much to do there. Some of the shops are AWESOME though. And the fireworks at the end of the night were some of the best I’ve ever seen. Anyways, I bought some new bowls in Japan for the cat. I saw them and was in love! They are too cute, and the perfect size and depth. I can never find anything at the pet stores I like, and they were $7 a piece, the same as buying from a pet store anyways, so I figured why not? They’re wide enough for his big head, shallow enough that he shouldn’t feel closed in, but deep enough to hold a 5.5 oz can of food with out having to squeeze it in there like I do his cheap $2 walmart stainless bowls. Check them out!

losul
MemberAimee, I would guess your husband has an intolerance, or even an allergy to garlic? I know some folks with those. I’m sure dogs can easily be the same.
Hehe, I admit, the first thing that came to mind was grapes, when you agreed with USA. But I wasn’t thinking whether you or your family ate them. I just thought it was ironic how you could defend a companies’ use, (who was it Hill’s or Purina?) of grape pomace in a dog food, but feel any and all garlic is unacceptable.
No, I just thought I’d ask, because virtually all mammals, including cats, dogs, rats, primates, humans, even ungulates and birds, have the same susceptibilities to the toxicities from over consumption of garlic, onions, etc. Granted humans have built more tolerance from the long history of consuming them, but they still can and do get all the side effects up to, and including oxidative stress and anemia. Yet vast numbers of people around the world still chose to consume them anyway over the ages for their medicinal properties.
Ever wonder why vampires have an intense fear of garlic? Vampires were thought to be those who have anemia, or other blood disorders- the pale skin, photosensitivity, yellow eyes, etc. They required the blood of healthy others in order to “sustain” them. A big dose of garlic would not be good news at all for the anemic vampire. Some sects and religions even weeded out the vampires amongst them, by those who would not partake.
Anyway, my stance is that dog food companies probably shouldn’t include garlic in their foods. I don’t really appreciate garlic or many other “medicinal botanicals” in many of the “higher” end foods such as sage extract, juniper berry extract. ginseng, gingko, licorice root, anjelica root, marigold, chamomile, etc. Many or all of them can cause allergic reactions for thing. They just don’t belong in dog foods, especially where someone might be feeding them 100% everyday for long periods, IMO. And one with grape pomace in it, well I would automatically reject it as completely unacceptable.
That said, I don’t take any issue with a person adding garlic to their dog’s food, as long they understand the possible allergic reactions, intolerances, or in larger quantities, toxicities, and they treat it as a controlled dosage rather than a food item. I’ve been adding potent crushed whole raw garlic to Turbo’s food at the rate of about 1 and 1/2 extra large cloves or about 6 grams/week, for probably 4 or 5 months now, and intend to keep doing so. For us, the probable benefits exceed what I perceive to be very small risk.

MemberSor, I guess I’m really confused as to why you fed your dog food that was making them sick for a year and a half. Another person covered this and I am as well. The poor dog might have been allergic to a single ingredient and you continued feeding them the food that was making them sick. I for one have never smelled a dog food that smelled “good”, nothing I’d want to eat at least. Your statement seems a little sales-y, honestly, and I wonder if you actually work for/are affiliated with Halo.
I have been feeding my dog Canine Caviar for years and she has made a miraculous recovery from this food. She is a Boxer that had horribly itchy skin that she would scratch until it bled, black spots, hot spots, stinky fur, etc. After feeding her for only 6 weeks, she became a success story of Canine Caviar’s and her before and after photos are international now.

Peachy does have a hernia that was not noted on any previous records, and the vet said that while it is not an emergency now it will need to be repaired at a future date (possibly during a dental or other procedure).
Also, Peachy graduated from basic obedience class. She is 90% on housetraining, can walk on a loose lead, sit, kiss, stay, watch me, touch, and is working on down and paw. She is a smart little dog, and very full of joy.

MemberHey C4c:
Buying a fairly cheap, plain, and well-built printer for just printing things like coupons is smart. You don’t need a fancy one if you are not printing photos or other documents that need to be high quality. A plain printer without all the bells and whistles is a fairly inexpensive purchase. A refurbished one would even be a smart purchase for general print jobs. I have a Canon MX860; it’s probably 5 or 6 years old. I always chuckle to myself when I say this, but one of the useful things I learned in school was from one of my computer classes. My professor was always giving us money saving tips for computers, hardware/software purchases, shortcuts to use on the Internet, cool websites and such. One of the tips that stuck was how to buy generic ink cartridges on E-bay. Luckily my printer was one of the brands that can use generic cartridges well. I end up paying about 50 -75 cents/cartridge and then turn them in for $2 credit each (up to 10/month) at Staples for office supplies. When my mom needed a new printer I researched what printer to buy according to what brand would use generic cartridges. When she commented on how much time I spent looking for the printer and how it must be a nice one I had to let her in on the secret that I was mostly concerned about generic cartridge compatibility. She was confused, but I only had to tell her how much she would have to pay for her brand of cartridge. She laughed and said “well at least the time and money spent for college paid off.” Hey, ink cartridges can be expensive. LolI have a degree in Human Services that I am building on; it is a very draining line of work. I am earning a degree in Health Care Management.

MemberLisa, I’ve been thinking about Chewy. Hopefully you have started to be able to keep badly needed nutrition in him now?
Some questions about his umbilical hernia, large or small? Has it gotten larger over the last several months? Is it painful to the touch for Chewy? I’m wondering if for some reason, perhaps financial, you had delayed the procedure, because in general a vet would do it by 5 or 6 months if they were pushing the time frame out to allow for spaying/neutering at the same time, otherwise probably earlier, and especially if it was causing problems or growing in size. From what I can determine Chewy is now about 9 months old. With a very small hernia, it might be only a bit of fat that pokes through the hole in the abdominal wall. With a larger hole, a loop of the intestine might drop into the sac and cause restriction which could definitely make Chewy vomit. Worse, a more severe restriction could even strangulate the intestine with much more dire consequences. Occaisonally the hole may even begin to close on it’s own by about 6 months. If the intestines are outside of the abdominal musculature structure and it begins closing……
This would be a large umbilical hernia, and no doubt the intestines have dropped into the sac. This one might be large enough not to substantially restrict or strangulate the intestines, depending on the actual size of the hole. It’s still quite dangerous.
http://www.faqs.org/photos/hernia-2773.jpg
“The symptoms associated with a hernia, like the one pictured in Figure 1 and 2 may initially relate to the inability of food to pass through this constricted section of intestine. Muscles within the wall of the intestine are responsible for moving food and water through the organ. Waves of contractions called peristalsis propel the contents along the length of the intestine. When an obstruction is encountered, like the one described, the peristaltic waves reverse direction and move the food backward through the entire digestive tract. This results in food and water being vomited.”
I don’t know what is causing Chewy’s vomiting, but it’s really serious stuff to be vomiting everyday for many months, and a pup at that. You really must work on getting to the cause and very soon.
BTW, if Chewy’s case even has anything to do with acid production, low acid production can cause the same symptoms as too much acid production. I’d think thrice about self medicating with acid inhibitory drugs, especially at inspecific dosages, and remember he’s ONLY an 8 to 9 lb malnourished pup. 1/2 or 1/3 of an adult human dose???? Stomach acid is even more important to the dog, a carnivore. Acid is needed for proper digestion, especially protein digestion, acid is needed for the stomach to empty correctly, and failure to do so results in GERD. Stomach acid is a defense against bacterial infections and fungal infections, certain vitamins and minerals also require acid to be absorbed such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, copper, iron, selenium, B-12, etc. Improper digestion of foods can lead to to large of particles getting into the lower digestive tract and causing allergies, diarrhea, pathogenic bacterial fermentation, etc. Acid stimulates pepsin to be released into the stomach for digestion, and for pancreatic enzymes and bile to be released into the small intestine to further digest carbs, fats and proteins. I could keep going on and on. Proper overall health begins with proper acid production. Improperly diagnosing, and prohibiting or shutting down acid production with zantac, prilosec, etc. could be the start of a vicious circle and downward spiral of, helicobacter overgrowth/ infections leading to ulcers, other pathogenic infections, colitis, gastroenteritis, IBD, pancreatitis, allergies, diabetes, malnourishment, inability to digest all but the simplest of foods (hydrolyzed), dependence on inhibitors, evermore drugs to staunch the symptoms (like metronidazole and steroids) and mask the root cause, and ever declining health. Be very careful….. and best wishes Lisa.
I wonder why acid inhibitors are some of Pharma, Inc’s. biggest blockbusters of all time?

MemberHey, all!
Well, Photobucket seems to hate me tonight so I will have to just write out the picture of Bruno’s 2014-2015 Menu, all gotten through coupons!
Starting Point – Mid-July, 2014.
1. Earthborn Holistic (EBH) Primitive Natural (Grain-Free, Chicken) – 14 lbs – 3 mths – till mid-Oct, 2014 – got for $20 with Petland coupon for $10 off $25+.
2. Back to Basics (B2B) Open Range (Grain-Free, Red Meat) + 3 samples of Victor Joint Health (Grain-Free, Beef) + 3 samples of Victor High Pro (Grain Free, Beef) – 5 lbs – 1.5 mths – till end of Nov, 2014 – got for $13 with manufacturer coupon for $7 off.
3. Holistic Health Extension (HHE) Lamb and Brown Rice (Grain-Inclusive, Lamb) – 4 lbs – 1 mth – till end of Dec, 2014 – got for FREE with Petland coupon for a free small bag of that brand.
4. Dogswell LiveFree Salmon (Grain-Free, Salmon/Fish) – 4 lbs – 1 mth – till end of Jan, 2015 – got for $4 on Petflow sale.
5. HHE Allergix (Grain-Free, Chicken) – 4 lbs – 1 mth – till end of Feb, 2015 – got for FREE with Petland coupon for a free small bag of that brand.
6. EBH Great Plains Feast (Grain-Free, Buffalo+Lamb) – 14 lbs – 3 mths – till end of May, 2015 – got for $20 with Petland coupon for $10 off $25+.
7. Wysong Nurture with Quail (Grain-Free, Quail) – 5 lbs – 1 mth – till end of June, 2015 – got for $5 on Petflow sale.
8. Nature’s Variety Instinct (NVI) Rabbit+Raw Bites (Grain-Free, Rabbit) + 1.5 lbs of Victor Ultra Pro (Grain-Free, Chicken) – 6.5 lbs – 1.5 mths – till mid-July, 2015 – NVI for FREE with manufacturer one-time coupon; Victor Ultra Pro is from samples and 1lb from a friend – all FREE.PLUS: The Honest Kitchen (THK) Force (Grain-Free, Chicken); Keen (Grain-Inclusive, Turkey), Love (Grain-Free, Beef), and Embark (Grain-Free, Turkey) as toppers – 2-lb boxes of each for $4 each on sale from Petflow – should last till mid-July, 2015 too BECAUSE one box makes 6-8 lbs of wet food and dilute it lots so I will say that THK’s 8 lbs of dehydrated food will make 32 lbs of wet food. That’s $16 ($20 with shipping) for 32 lbs of food!
Total food weight: Kibble – 56.5 lbs. THK – 32 lbs. Total – 88.5lbs.
Total spending (with $5 shipping from Petflow for the THK): $82.00.This makes all the foods an average of $0.93/lb. I’m quite happy with it cause for less than $100, it is all pretty good foods, and Bruno is set for a YEAR. 🙂
Not to mention the multitude of free samples he has that we use as treats and the $60 box from Best Bully Sticks that is full of dehydrated goods that should last him quite a while too, maybe a year if I’m lucky. So yeah. $142. Great local stores that give coupons and free samples. Great friends and good manufacturer deals – I think $142 for a year’s worth of food, chews, and treats for a small dog is pretty good. 🙂
Good luck to all with your couponing endeavors! 🙂
July 14, 2014 at 7:32 pm #46966Topic: Wanting to switch to raw food…really need help :/
in forum Raw Dog FoodAshlee S
MemberHi, I’m new to the forum. But long time dog owner. I currently have three large dogs. I know all of my dogs would benefit to a raw diet but I’m lost on where to start. My dogs are currently fed on taste of the wild. I’m more than happy to research a lot on my own but I could use some help on where to start. What to feed? How much?
Here’s a little info on my dogs, if it might help.
Cookie who is the oldest is turning 12 years on the 24th, she’s a female Labrador weighing around 65 pounds. Cookie is overweight, she has cancer and arthritis. She can’t walk far distances and isn’t comfortable swimming any more, so exercise isn’t the easiest way to her weight off. Cookie, although overweight she doesn’t eat much. She is a retried mom who quickly gained the weight when she was spayed late at the age of 7 years. And I have yet to get her weight off. Although she has cancer and arthritis she is active for her age and condition. She’s fine with small walks around the block but anything more she limps her way home.
Mia, is my female bloodhound. Mia is 6 years old,she has a long chronic past of yeast infections in her ears which have significantly gone down since switching to TOTW. Mia’s a very active girl. It’s very easy to control her weight, compared to my other two dogs. She does eat A LOT but she never strays from her weight too much. Usually a steady 85 pounds. She’s eating 3 1/2 cups a day of just kibble with occasional raw cow bone
Bentley is the hardest to keep his weight. He is currently overweight, I’m getting his weight down right now by cutting back his food and feeding vegetables and raw cow bones recommended by his vet. Bentley is a heeler/hound/lab mix. I adopted him back in August of 2013. He’s a year old. He’s closer to the size of a heeler than anything but weight wise he’s a hound/lab. Last time he was weighed he was 63 pounds a few weeks ago.
I exercise my dogs daily besides cookie who can’t handle daily walks. I take them swimming at least once a week and hiking once a week but they get daily walks and runs. So lack of exercise isn’t the problem it’s balancing their food.
I know I need to make this decision on my own but there’s no problem with suggestions. If you could help steer me in the right way you suggest would most benefit my dogs I would greatly appreciate it.
And also if you could estimate on monthly costs, I would greatly appreciate it. Or Estimate on how much to feed so I could estimate the cost. But would GREATLY appreciate any links or forums you know of where I can start my research in raw feeding that would be great. 😀
Thanks!
Just for a reference of my dog’s here is a picture

MemberYea we actually have a special needs dog too so it is a bit challenging at times but still worth it in the end. But I haven’t looked into the Victor line-up yet but will do so for sure. That’s exactly what i was wanting to do is sub a grain free with a non grain free if it doesn’t affect them in a negative way with the switching, but i did want to get something like a neck or other raw treat more or less to add into their diets and see if they like it and do well with it. But with a larger breed dog i know i need to focus on Calcium consumption so how do i measure that, not all brands give that info on their products. Thank you all so much for the assistance as well i really appreciate it, i will upload some photos soon of my boys as well.

MemberPeachy is settling in! Her housetraining is mostly complete. She has learned sit and loose leash walking and is in a basic obedience class for other skills. Having her around has really perked up my older rescue poodle, he is eating more regularly and is chewing on chewies and playing more. They are still not best friends yet, my older one treats Peachy like an annoying little sister. But I think that things are going really well.
In 2 weeks we go in to recheck that her heartworms are really and truly gone.

Bobby dog
MemberHey Akari and C4c:
How do you like my Avatar? It’s Archie, my hyperthyroid kitty. I finally took the time to pick a photo. LolI am glad you’re considering probiotics! I threw kefir out there because I know you are kinda taking on the costs of Bentley even though he’s not your responsibility. It has 11 strains of probiotics and it costs between $3 to $4; awesome price for that many beneficial strains. To answer your question about dosage for small dogs 1 tsp – 1 Tb. I dose my cat daily due to his health issues; Bobby gets kefir 2x/wk. More dosage info is on the Ottawa Whisperer link.
Swanson is always recommended by regular DFA posters so I think you are making a great choice. Buy one get one free, better yet! I would even give it to Alec and your guys a few times a week. I agree with C4c, if you are going to spend the money for a probiotic you should buy one with the most strains to get his immune system back on track, the whole point of adding probiotics. The grapefruit yeast supplement only has two strains; IMO that would be something to try when he is healthy again. I also am not sure of the “yeast” included in the title. The probiotic complex is a little better, it has five.

WellnessPetFood.comThe list goes on. You really have to keep an eye out. Its like a full time job. You also need to sign up for any rewards programs at stores around you. Pet Supermarket offers a free bag of equal or lesser value when you buy 10 bags of the same brand, any size, any flavor. So if you buy a three 30 lb bags, two 15 lb bags and five 5 lb bags, you’ll get a coupon for a free bag of the cheapest bag you bought.
Looks like PetSmart already took their $5 coupon down from the website, but I saved it and made it up for easy printing, so I’ll share 🙂 Its good for a few more days.

ParticipantGood job! I wish I’d have gotten to go over to PetCo while they were doing their big clearance event 🙁 Oh well, I’m pretty happy with my deals right now 🙂
Now heres a super awesome deal for you guys!
I used my $5 Natural/Specialty Foods PetSmart coupons at Pet Supermarket tonight. I got 4 more bags of Nutro (I should now be getting a coupon for a free bag in the mail here in a month or so for buying 10 bags in less than a year!) for $2.65 each, but I also got 4x 2lb bags of Wellness Toy Complete Health for a whole whopping $0.50!!!!!!!!! Awwwww yeah! And I technically got them all for -$0.04, but since this store adds tax to the total after coupons, and you can’t have tax on a negative transaction, I had to get a little $0.50 treat to bring my total up out of the negative. So it was $0.46 cents, and then $0.04 tax, for all four bags. You can bet I’ll be doing that again 😉
Heres the break down of that:
4x Wellness Complete Health Toy 2lb bag: on sale for $5.99 a bag (regular price $8.99)
4x $5 off any size bag of Natural or Specialty Food (Specific brands listed) PetSmart Coupon
1x $4 off $20 purchase Pet Supermarket coupon
1x $0.50 bakery style gourmet doggie treat
Total Before tax and coupons: $24.46
Total after tax and coupons: $0.50
Total Savings: $36.00!!!!!
I need to pick up four more bags tomorrow, and then I’ll be getting a coupon in the mail for a free bag of that, as well 🙂
Somebody’s gotta top me on that lol

ParticipantYes, please share some pics. I’m not sure how to add pictures on the forum, but fairly easy on the review site. I think some use photo bucket on the forum. I have brothers that are litter mates also. They are 3/4 lab and 1/4 golden retriever. Talk about a handful! Won’t do that again. But, they are almost three and things have settled down. They are like human brothers. Very jealous of each other, but can hardly stand to be apart! Sounds like you are doing great. Thanks for sharing.

MemberMy dog was recently on Wellness Simple Salmon and Potato both dry and wet but what I found shocked me. There were pieces of bone in both the dry and wet food, some of the pieces were really big. In the past my dog has tried Wellness Complete Health Adult Whitefish and Sweet Potato dry and wet. As I went through the bag, after my dogs major vet bill, I found pieces of bone in there as well. I called the company and they denied the whole thing and told me to just switch flavors if my dog didn’t like it. No I don’t have any photographic evidence as of now but here is a video that I found;

ParticipantHere’s a pic of the Beyer Shampoo and conditioner.
Sorry about the glare in the second picture. The bathroom has overhead lights lol
As for food, I’ve decided to ditch kibble right now (Pure Balance Salmon lol), and stick with just THK. Right now I have Force open, so I’ll use that. At a half cup a day, dry, the three grain free sample boxes won’t last long. I don’t think I’ll use the grain inclusive one (oatmeal). I’ll use it for the other dogs. They don’t care, they just like to eat :p
I’ll look into those shampoos, and bother mom about getting him a vet appointment.
Forgot to add, I’d like to get him on Pure Balance 95% canned, but in order to do that, I have to sell mom on the idea, and make room by getting rid of the THK taking up space in the cabinet lol
