MemberOkay I was able to upload the photo after several tries. My problem now is that I want to change the photo to the email address that matches the one on dogfoodadvisor.com.
I posted a different e-mail address for Gravatar. I can’t seem to do that…does anyone know how? I would like Mickey’s photo to appear on both Gravatar and on this site.-

MemberThanks so much for the reply crazy4cats. I have to say while this site is extremely informative and I’ve grown to really like it, it is probably the most difficult site I have ever navigated. It is not user-friendly that’s for sure. I just wish there was an easier way to change my profile photo to my dog’s photo instead and like almost all other sites and forums there was an easy way to post a photo like clicking on a camera icon. And all other sites I download directly from my camera roll or photo stream on my iPad and iPhone. Soooo easy!
How about it administrators? Think you can make it easier for us?-

ParticipantHi Gloria-
I think that most people use something like photo bucket to post pictures on the forum. It is much easier to post on the review side of this site. It directs you right to your pictures when you click on the little box in the left hand corner on that site. It took me over a year to figure out the gravatar site as well. Lol! You could always go to the off topic thread on the review side and post your picture. That is what I usually do. Welcome to DFA!November 11, 2014 at 11:29 am #56979In reply to: What breed do you think my dog is?

Haven’t turned on my laptop for over six months. I’ll have to go and see if I can work it through my computer instead of my tablet then I’ll get back to you. Too bad I can’t upload a photo with my reply because I would show you what I see when I use my iPad directed to Gravatar.

ParticipantHi Gloria, are you using a mobil phone, tablet or laptop, Im using a laptop it might be different if ur using a tablet…but when you hover over ur photo that you dont have, on the top right about 4 things come up, the first one is the “add a photo” click on that, then “choose where you’d like to get the image from” comes up & you’ll see 3 blue pictures, (sounds like ur just getting the 1 blue picture) you click on the 1st one on ur left that says “my computers hard drive” then it brings up photos on ur computer, then you upload a photo from there…My mom just bought a tablet, she lives 2 hrs away & I tried to explain stuff to her over the phone & she’d say but I dont have that button on my screen then I realized that the tablets have a different set up to laptops & computers…maybe retry again today & see if it works properly & yes it is confusing…

I was able to get into Gravatar, sign up and added 2 photos to the photo gallery but it won’t let me set the photos. It says “upload an existing photo “but nothing else to click on. I went over to the right pane and clicked on the photo gallery to upload the two photos. Very puzzling. There is no photo on my top right to hover over as you suggested. HEEELLLPPPP!

MemberHi Jenny!
Four of the dogs were “mine” and the other four were dumped over the past year. I may have found a home for one, but my idea of what constitutes good dog stewardship is vastly different from my neighbors. I really have to vet the backgrounds because these dogs have been through enough.
I have a huge fenced in back yard and then I let all but one come inside. It is not as bad as it sounds as I live alone and have a larger home. A chow mix I call Carleen is terrified to come inside,(when I was cutting the mats out of her back legs she was trembling so violently, it was terrible) so I bought her an insulated dog house with a heating pad, and then put the dog house in my attached garage. I then put a rotating ceramic heater about 3 feet away from her. This is where she goes when night falls. She is warm as toast on the few nights it was cold, snug as a bug and when I peek at her, she is snoozing soundly. She is cat aggressive, which is unfortunate because she is a love bug and is so obedient. But, until I can find a five star, no child, no cat home, they are better off with me.But I can’t take on anymore. It is too much. It is a losing battle here. I took one dog to an no kill animal shelter because I was not sure about him with my small dogs and I gave them a $300 donation to insure he was taken care of. The Sampson County animal “shelter” does not even have photos of dogs for adoption on petfinder. It is disgusting. It is something I can’t dwell on because I cannot change these people’s minds about dogs. They throw them a dirty bowl of Old Roy (not Pure Balance!) at the end of their chain and call it day. If you knew how many times I have risked arrest to make sure these dogs on chains have water in the boiling summers. I have cut it close. It is scary but in my DNA…I will never stop.

ParticipantCheck it out guys! Paid $3.55 for this 🙂
As you guys know, I’m not one for Science Diet or reduced calorie foods, but it was such a good deal I had to do it lol It’s just one small bag, so it really won’t make much difference when mixed with other foods.
Anyways, I did this at Petco. I went online to do my pricing research before I went to the store, and saw that the Light forumlas were on sale for $9.99, and that Halo cans were on sale as well for $1.79 for the 5.5 oz one. Got to the store, and just like every freaking time I check PetCo’s prices online first, the shelf price is more expensive (by $2 in this case). So I pitched a fit, and the cashier gave it to me for the $9.99 the website said (let it be know that I’m not usually one to make a big deal out of something, but this whole online price being different thing is the exact reason why I hate shopping at PetCo, and this is the third time it’s happened to me, so I was not happy).
So after 7 $1 off Halo coupons, a $4 off $20 Pet Supermarket coupon, and a $7 off any Science Diet PetCo coupon, I made it out of there pretty cheap! It was a little more than I was expecting because I went for the larger cans rather than the 3 oz ones, but in the end this was a better deal than getting the smaller cans.
In case I didn’t post it, here’s the $7 off Science Diet coupon:
And a bonus free trial of Advantage for cats if you live in an area with a Pet Supermarket. I can’t make any promises they’ll have any, because this coupon has no date on it, and I found it online, rather than having it emailed to me like I usually get them. But it doesn’t hurt to try!

November 2, 2014 at 1:25 pm #56157Topic: Small breed/1st time dog owner HELP!!
in forum Feedback and SuggestionsXiu-Xiu
MemberFirst time dog owner with no experience. I have a 6 month old, 7 lb Japanese chin for over 2 months now. Breeder had him on Diamond lamb and rice. So I picked up a 30lb bag because that was the smallest bag they had at the time. I would give him 1/4 cup of plain kibbles in the morning and a 1/4 cup at dinner and topped it off with a Natures recipe(tub) different favor each day. Everyday he would always get really excited for his dinner and always went back to lick his empty bowl. So far no problems whatsoever with his health or poo.
My vet thinks that Diamond is not as bad as people make it sound. So I’m getting mixed opinions, and I read a lot of bad reps about the brand.
I like the idea of getting him on rotation. I don’t care how much it costs, as long as he’ll be healthy in the long run. I have a couple of brands that I’d like him to try from your 5 star list. I chose these brands because of the ingredients and based on the breed forum recommendations:
Canidae
Merrick
Orijen
Wellness core
So the first brand I tried is Candied pure element (lamb) grain free. I really like what’s listed on the label. But my boy seems to not agree with me. He had a couple of kibbles and walked away. He would not touch his kibbles all through the day. He kept going back to sniff and walked away. Dinner time (he’s always excited as usual) so I mixed it with his wet food like always (Nature recipe), he would eat/lick off the wet food and spit out the kibbles.
This is weird because my boy would never reject anything I’ve given him, he would eat anything out of my hands. Am I making the wrong choice here? Any recommendations would be highly appreciated, because I would like him to be off Diamond if it’s not good for him.

ParticipantYeah, she’s missing at least three teeth, and whatever teeth she does have left are still black and gross looking. I’ve been looking for Kongs in the clearance sections of the pet stores and so far I’ve turned up nothing.
Also, I’ve been walking her every day again, even if it’s just around our block (the smallest in the neighborhood), or going up and down the side walk around the house a couple times a day when we go out to go potty. Yesterday we didn’t walk, but we did go to four different stores, and that wore her out perfectly fine. She was asleep in the cart by the third store LOL She loves the car, but doesn’t seem to understand that if she gets too near the edge, she usually falls face first on to the floor LOL She loves to get up on the door and look out the window :3
I’ve also been working on getting her to be a bit more dependent. I’ve started by removing the steps from the couch so that she has to ask to be picked up to get up on the couch. It’s working very well! She’s also beginning to ask to go outside for potty breaks (she’s been doing ot off and on for a week or so, but it’s getting better since taking the stairs away), and I’ve been giving her a treat every time she potties outside. It will never stop amazing me how something so simple and small can drastically change a dogs behavior! Anyways, she’s not happy about the removal of her steps. She keeps climbing up them and looking around wondering why they no longer lead to the couch XD

ParticipantSo I was at PetCo today (and Pet Supermarket. And PetSmart. But that’s beside the point) and spotted the greatest thing I’ve ever seen in the clearance section. This Ewok costume:
It’s even got a little spear!! LOL Bentley isn’t too pleased with this new addition to his wardrobe, but as long as the hood is down, he’s ok with it. Now I’ve all I have to do is find the cats penguin costume, and it’ll be a good time all around XD

ParticipantI’m glad too! However he must still be working on passing that bark he ate off the fire log. He puked all over the floor after we got home from the vet. To help butter him up, I’ll be using two small meals a day of mostly EVO (high in fat, should coat his insides pretty good– in theory at least) and I’ll give him some of the dogs fish oil at every meal. It’s marketed for dogs, but it shouldn’t hurt, right? He likes it better than coconut oil. And, since he’s not had any of the food I’ve planned out for him over the next couple days before, hopefully his poops will be softer while his tummy tries to figure out what to do with it, and should help dislodge whatever it is he’s eaten.
And just because: I was doing my homework at the kitchen table, and left for like 2 minutes to go to the bathroom, and came back to this:
Little chair thief…. Lol

ParticipantNot sure how big your pups are but you can try some raw sardines too (or when they get a little bit adjusted to raw first). They come in different sizes. Also, splitting a big can (12 oz or more) of mackerel or salmon between all the pups might be cost efficient. I bought my whole sardines for $1.19/lb.

ParticipantThanks for sharing! I have almost a whole bag I opened and never finished sitting on top of the fridge that I want to do something with lol Not sure if I’ll use it as a topper for Ginger, or if I’ll make treats with it.
As for the cat, I think he’s got another blockage. This cat is as bad as a puppy when it comes to chewing on things! Mom bought this cool portable camp fire thing, where its a log, with some holes cut into the top with starter and whatever in it, and since its a natural log, its got bark on the outside. Well, the cat has a paper and cardboard fetish and he has to eat anything papery, and I noticed a few days after mom bought the log that there are several large (like 3+ inch squares!) areas missing out of the bark. The dogs are locked up all day, and when we’re home, they’re under our feet, or sleeping on the couch. The cat is out and about in the house, and he’s just down right naughty, so I know who to blame when it comes to the missing bark.
Anyways, he’s not eating like his usual “starved” self, and when he does, he doesn’t eat much. He’s even turning down Friskies, which is just crazy. He’s been working on his current can (which is spiked with enough coconut oil to kill a horse, and some of the dogs liquid fish oil) for a good 24 hours. Todays food was supposed to be Wellness Beef and Chicken, but I’m not going to put down a $2 can of food for him to let sit all day (and he’s still willingly working on that can of Friskies). In fact, I’m not going to give it to him until he’s passed all that bark he’s eaten, and is eating his food properly again. I don’t want $4 worth of food to go to waste! He’s also spending a lot of time stretched out when laying down, and licking his tummy and “special place”. I think he’s about finished the can of food thats down, so I’m going to put down some fish oil in a bowl, and let him lick at it when he’s hungry tonight.
So far, no puking like last time, and fingers crossed it doesn’t get to that point. The bark is papery, so it should move out with some buttering up, and not actually completely block him like last time.
To end on a positive note, I had a helper while doing my homework tonight. Heres a picture of him eating my ($170) textbook *rolls eyes*
And him pretending to have no bones LOL

Other raw feeders have told me they have the 3/4 hp Cabela brand grinder and it’s worked just fine on chicken and turkey parts and it was less than $200. And adding in the lean ground meat and decreasing the beef organ mix would balance it out better (the meat and bone portion), but also check out the supplement section at dogaware. And you can also find hearts, tongues, cheek, even uterus at ethnic grocery stores as well.

I am not sure how to attach a photo, but others can help!Has your Vet checked for giardia and coccidia? Those parasites can cause runny stools and I have read that owners sometimes have to run tests several times as they sometimes don’t detect them initially, IDK.
I don’t have too much experience with putting weight on dogs, and certainly not with an emaciated dog. I am throwing questions out to you in hopes others can offer help and to bump your post up.
Maybe you could try a lower protein/fat kibble such as Nutrisource to help with the transition to a new diet. My dog and cats do well on Nutrisource products. I always add canned, lightly cooked fresh meats, or commercial raw to my dogs kibble. I would keep offering her a canned food as well.
As Cyndi suggested, canned pumpkin might help with her stools. I feed some everyday to one of my cats so I always have a frozen bag full of ice-cube sized canned pumpkin on hand. In most cases it helps with diarrhea or constipation; good food with multiple uses! Some other products for help with firming up stools are:
• Firm up pumpkin supplement –dehydrated pumpkin

• Fruitables – canned fruit supplement

• Honest Kitchen Perfect Form supplement

MemberHello Bobby D.
I am her foster mom and have had her less that 48 hours. From what we found out from the person we rescued her from and from her trip to our vet, “Freedom” wasn’t being allowed to eat, she was a yard dog with 4 others. Her previous owners would put food out for all the dogs and she was always lat to eat, if there was any left. She’s HW positive and not diabetic and the vet does not suspect cancer. She’s also been dewormed. The Vet will see her next Thursday to see how she’s progressing and will check her weight and determine if blood work is needed.P.S. Is there a way for me to attach a photo of her?

MemberThank you Nancy, regarding the compliments on my Bailey. She is quite the sweetheart. Speaking of border collies, Bailey is a border collie/pitbull mix, or so I’m told. I do see some traits from both breeds in her, so I think they may have been right. & Bailey’s best friend is a border collie. This is Bailey and Chase. 🙂

ParticipantWow, we have over 1000 posts going on this thread!
Anyways, I thought the Salmon and Trout Wellness would go over well, but it’s not. He eats the shredded and whatever ones that were discontinued a while back (the purple cans), but the pate style is not his favorite, which really does lead me to believe it’s the carageenan he doesn’t like. He will eat anything I throw at him, but it takes half the day for him to eat a can of the Wellness. And the dog food cans are the same way! Really thick. I’ll have to email them and see what they have to say.
Also, I found this in tonight can:
That thing is huge! I’m glad I’m found it! It did crumble easily under pressure, but that can’t be safe, to have a bone in there :O
And I tried to post these the other day, but PhotoBucket was being stupid and wouldn’t let me upload them. Here are some (old, but favorite) pics of Dweezle and Haley 🙂
(Picture of a picture, sorry lol)

MemberThank you so much! I am on my iPad so this will be brief. I talked to my vet about EPI about a year ago but she didn’t think it was the culprit because his stools are completely normal. Would it be harmful in any way to use the enzymes without a diagnosis of EPI? I will check his current enzyme blend to see if it has the same ingredients. I get them from Mercola.com — Dr. Karen Becker is connected to the brand.
I would be so happy if this worked! He looks like those “before” photos. It’s horrible.Thank you so, so much for taking so much time and providing those links. I really appreciate it.

ParticipantI wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t think she could handle it yet. I did try to get the vet to look at her teeth while we were there today, but his advertiser came in and they talked until the next appointment came in, so I didn’t get a chance to have him look. However, they really are too far gone to do much of anything to, besides maybe pull them all. She eats without problem and chews greenies and oversized treats just fine, and I’m 99% sure I can’t afford anything to do with anything dental-y. I do want him to look and make sure nothing is a serious, life threatening (or at least over all quality-of-life threatening) issue in there with in the next few weeks. A person has to have more than $12 to their name before they can have a vet do stuff >.< lol
Mom came home tonight and referred to Ginger as “her puppy” (and “little orphan dog” LOL). For a dog that isn’t supposed to be staying, someone had grown quite attached. I mean, look at this that she posted on Facebook tonight! (Also notice how the cat, who she “hates” is in the middle, and not “her Bentley” :p)
LOL

MemberHi Cyndi. I know how to print them. What I can’t seem to figure out is how to “share” them.
I’ll try taking screen shots of them, uploading them to photo bucket and posting them that way and see if I figure it out. Thanks.
Cyndi
MemberHi Dori, did you mean how am I able to “print” them or how do I “share” them? Those coupons I got were in an email. I took a screen shot of them, uploaded them to photobucket and posted them that way, like you have to do for pictures. It’s kind of confusing but I finally figured out how to do it. I don’t know if there is an easier way to do it or not. There probably is, that’s just the way I know.
& to print them, you can do it the way I explained above in my other post…
Hope that helps! 🙂

ParticipantHey guys! I got a good look at the cat food cabinet the other day and realized how low I was! Less than two weeks left! Oh my, that won’t do!
Luckily, my top two OMG I NEED CAT FOOD NOW choices (Authority Flaked Turkey and Friskies Special Diet) were on sale at PetSmart. I ended up with two cases of Friskies Special Diet Turkey & Giblets and Beef & Chicken, and a case of Authority Flaked Turkey for a little more than $30. Thankfully, I got my $10 Sentinel rebate, so that helped with the cost. I also went to Pet Supermarket and picked up 15 cans of Wellness Tuna and Trout for 3 cents a can after coupons (and three cans of Nutro for the dogs lol). A few meals of fish isn’t going to hurt anything, especially not with all the food I bought just now lol
Heads up about the Authority: they’ve changed all the recipes. My Flaked Turkey is now in gravy, and lower in protein 🙁 I wouldn’t have bought it if I didn’t need it so bad, and the stupid brat of a cat hadn’t stopped eating the regular Wellness. He really doesn’t like the regular Wellness any more for some reason….
Anyways, here’s all my cat food– 56 days worth! It’s about 1/2 Friskies and 1/2 Authority, Wellness, and etc.
