Update: the Back to Basics Pork wasn’t a big hit with Harry. He didn’t dive in with gusto as he usually does. And the “output” wasn’t great. I usually do a long food transition with him but stopped. I ordered a bag of the Earthborn Holistic Great Plains Feast & the results were much better. He liked it and so far it likes him π
So now if all goes well besides his raw we can rotate
NL Beef
NL Sardine
Earthborn Holistic GPF
See Spot Live Longer Pre MixFor some odd reason I have it in my head that a 3rd brand for kibble would be a better rotation. I then think I am a glutton for punishment & I should be grateful I’ve found anything that agrees with him.
FreeholdHoundMemberThere’s chicken in it π but I’ll probably risk it.
FreeholdHoundMemberJust got my order nestled into the freezer! Tracy was out of duck necks so she threw in a 2nd pkg of the dressed quail. EEK!!! I hope he likes those things.
FreeholdHoundMemberSandy- the Carnivore Raw w/out calcium can be used with the bone-in grinds from Hare? THAT would be a God send for me – I mean Harry π
FreeholdHoundMemberJust completed my order! New stuff includes duck necks/feet, goat grind, and even the dressed quail pack. Got his faves too – beef grind, rabbit grind, and of course his addiction – Tripe. I ordered freezer containers for a good price off Amazon so I’ll be all set to stock the new freezer. π
Family coming over later so today will be turkey neck day- it’s so much fun grossing out company MWAH HA HA π
FreeholdHoundMemberLOL Patty !
FreeholdHoundMemberShe was my beautiful rubber chicken <3 Her twin brother passed 2 days after they were born. I am grateful everyday. Even when she’s being a teenager. I am blessed. Thank you Marie.
JeanneFreeholdHoundMemberMarie: I Mom to an amazing 14 yr old. She was born at 23 wks weighing a bit more than 1lb. She fought hard & she’s my hero. She is vision & hearing impaired but just started High School and is getting straight A’s. Our boy Harry the Greyhound is her constant partner in crime & she’s his Wubbie.
And I still can’t relax for nothin. I truly suck at it. My yoga teacher tried to teach me meditation but gave up, as I kept
going thru my “to do list” in my head. But I had some great smelling concoctions !!
JeanneFreeholdHoundMemberIt’s a top loader w/a small shelf 1/2 way up $ a sliding basket up top. I will have to figure out a system. He’s so limited on what he can eat that it shouldn’t be too hard – it’s just my OCD lol. The minute I try to move the pkgs I have out to the freezer Harry’s starts going crazy thinking it’s dinner time.
Patty: I mixed a lot of oil brews when I was dealing with infertility & a very high risk pregnancy. I wasn’t born with a relaxation chromosome so I needed ALOT of help πFreeholdHoundMemberPatty: Oh my yes- years ago I made my own scented oils for Aromatherapy & some soaps. It was wonderful. I could make the mixtures I needed. It was wonderful.
Cyndi: it’s a small freezer but w/ only 1 dog on partial raw it’s enough for me & for $45 (originally $160) I couldn’t walk away! My Hare Today is going to be painful heehee
FreeholdHoundMemberMy mini freezer is up and running- YAY! I’ve delayed another order until I was sure it worked. I can get the raw out of MY freezer now! And better yet start an order. It feels like Xmas (and that’s absolutely pathetic LOL). Forget sugar plums – I’ve got visions of goat, tripe, and duck feet & necks dancing thru my head π
October 15, 2013 at 7:47 pm in reply to: Firming up the "Output" — sorry for subject #26422 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberNo I space out the kefir, enzymes & tripe – I realized I typed that wrong but couldn’t edit. Ugh. I also adjust the PM for the add ins. Oatmeal is out since it’s one of his foods to avoid.THANK YOU for the other ideas I’ve never tried those. I will check out the Vital Essentials also. π π
FreeholdHoundMemberNewbie here too. I have been using the grind mixes w/ bone to add to dry food and on their own occasionally. I use the boneless ground meat w/ the See Spot Live Longer miix & when Harry gets a large turkey neck. Besides that Tripe is our go to favorite thing from MPC & Hare Today. I just got a new small freezer & there’s quite a big order in my shopping cart as we speak. Going to try the goat & rabbit grinds as Harry can’t have poultry (except bones)
FreeholdHoundMemberNo I wouldn’t use the lower calorie GF. The Pork formula looked ok to me as did EB Great
Plains. I think I’ll try a small bag of each. B2B 1st as I can get free shipping at the moment.FreeholdHoundMemberI noticed on MPC that they have lamb necks for a limited time. Are these an alternative to turkey necks ?
FreeholdHoundMemberI agree Patty- occasionally I hear something that I can only describe as a “Muppet” noise coming from him.
FreeholdHoundMemberYes, he’s quite the sight…looks like he’s posing for a Playgirl centerfold. I keep threatening to buy him a kilt (Irish bloodlines) as his blatant airing out of his “junk” gets a bit old. Add in the obnoxious snoring & dream rabbit chasing & he looks possessed. But he’s always good for a laugh.
Will check out the goat & mutton also. Attended a few Goat Roasts in Texas – I don’t remember if I liked it or not, but Harry’s not too picky w/ raw.
FreeholdHoundMemberPatty- When Harry “cockroaches” he’s the length of our couch.lol.
Has anyone tried the goat from Hare Today? I’m making up a wish list/pre order. Always looking to add something besides beef & tripe since poultry is out. He did well on the pork & liked the rabbit grind too. Want to try out the duck feet (so cute) also, my Asian Mkt didn’t have them.
FreeholdHoundMemberPatty- abusive dog mom that I am … No furniture for Harry (we’d never get it back). He’s never tried & we don’t invite. Besides his sleep startle, he’s an XL model & there would be no place for us to sit. Spoiled hound has 3 dog beds & his crate to choose from. He does manage yo always spread out at hallway intersections so he knows exactly where all his humans are π
FreeholdHoundMemberHey Beagles! Lol. Thanks for the link- I’ll have to check out where they drop off. Nearest exit for me is 7A and the construction zone there is HORRENDOUS !!
FreeholdHoundMemberA friend had one – litter box trained, dog bed/crate trained, very sweet. But with an 80+ lb Greyhound taking up all the floor space I’d need a bigger house
FreeholdHoundMemberI spent some years in Texas working at a stable w/ lots of livestock – I completely get the squeaky toy thing. I personally have always wanted a mini pet pig -whose name shall be Bacon!! Or Bacon Bits π
FreeholdHoundMemberClassic, Patty, simply classic!!!
FreeholdHoundMemberSweet mother of God – a steer? Impressive. I’m happy that I’ll be able to get the tripe away from my ice cream π
FreeholdHoundMemberI got my baby freezer today. But with clearance, gift card & employee discount it only came to $45! Hopefully I’ll get it plugged in this weekend & can get the raw food out of our freezer. Then I can figure out my next order π
FreeholdHoundMemberWell that makes sense. Duh! I will give him a chunk to chew on next time. Over the weekend we were visiting friends & hanging out on the patio. I gave him a dried trachea to keep him busy & he walked over to the door. He thought he should be let inside to lay on their dogs bed to eat it. Harry’s never been cat tested so that wasn’t happening, and boy was he pissy. Kept giving my friend the “Stink Eye” for making him lay outside (on a travel bed). Sooo beneath him LOL.
FreeholdHoundMemberI got a few containers of MPC’s tripe/gullet/trachea grind to try out. Hopefully the small freezer I’ve had my eye on at Target on clearance will go down again this week & I’ll pick it up. Then I’ll have to plan on some more goodies. Llama? Wow, I’m just happy he likes the beef & rabbit so far lol.
I also ordered MPC dried beef trachea chews to give him a break from the turkey necks & something I can give him when we’re out and about – he loves them & they lasted longer than I thought they would. Will be looking at duck feet soon too at my Asian Mkt.
FreeholdHoundMemberFinally got my refund from PayPal!! Only $40 but it’s the point of it. π
FreeholdHoundMemberI haven’t had a problem w/ iOS7. I have stayed logged in thru both updates (here & Apples’s) on my iPad
September 25, 2013 at 7:38 pm in reply to: I have a question about Red Barn Naturals bones #25122 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberThis actually took him longer than I thought it would & LOTS of chewing (yay for his teeth !!) I’m glad I ordered them on a whim – a good switch up from the turkey.
September 25, 2013 at 7:04 pm in reply to: I have a question about Red Barn Naturals bones #25119 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberPatty- I will be searching out pork necks. Haven’t seen them at any of my local markets so I’ll check at my Asian Mkt when I go next. Harry is happily crunching on a dried beef trachea from MPC- his eyes actually rolled back into his head – I guess he likes it! I’ve given them raw but not dried before.
September 21, 2013 at 5:32 pm in reply to: I have a question about Red Barn Naturals bones #24957 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberHarry just got finished w/ his turkey neck. I am tempted to try for more than once a week as he teeth are a concern, but turkey is so iffy for him.
FreeholdHoundMemberOh yes.. and the days I’m dividing up the raw tripe into smaller portions — Harry has fits outside the kitchen gate. Of course I have to give him some to shut him up. I guess he never read that Greyhounds don’t bark LOL.
September 21, 2013 at 11:06 am in reply to: I have a question about Red Barn Naturals bones #24941 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberHarry can’t have turkey, but does okay with turkey necks (but I don’t go over board). Red Barn Naturals are all cooked bones so I don’t buy them & some of their other products are smoked (w/all of Harry’s triggers I wouldn’t try those either).
Many people use them with no problems, it’s an individual dog thing.FreeholdHoundMemberI know Tripett and Merrick both have canned Tripe and are sold in most pet stores. I used the Merrick as a topper when I used to use canned food. Harry liked it but the raw is definitely Houndie Crack around here.
FreeholdHoundMemberFiled with PayPal. How aggravating!
FreeholdHoundMemberDamn. Didn’t know it was the same people. Contacting PayPal now!!
FreeholdHoundMemberMy freezer went down in price again. There’s 3 left & they’ ll go down a bit more on Thursday. Going to hold off until there’s 1 left & see what I can get it for – then figure out where the hell I’m going to put it π
FreeholdHoundMemberLooks like Raw Pet Food Nation may turn out to be a bust (at least for me). I placed my order last weekend & never received any sort of email from them for confirmation. I emailed on Wed & got a reply that they were looking into it & nothing since. Sigh. I ‘ll hold out thru the weekend & then go thru PayPal to dispute the transaction.
September 15, 2013 at 10:08 pm in reply to: List Your Dogs' Food Intolerances (Allergies) and the Dog Food That Works #24671 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberI tried to try NV when I got a sample pack – Harry refused to go anywhere near the bowl- that was a cheap -n- easy food trial LOL
September 15, 2013 at 7:36 pm in reply to: List Your Dogs' Food Intolerances (Allergies) and the Dog Food That Works #24667 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberUgh! That sucks. Did the ear thing w/ Harry too. Turned out to be Sweet Potatoes in his case. It’s soooo aggravating
September 15, 2013 at 1:59 pm in reply to: Food mix recommendations and homemade food book recommendations? #24660 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberI downloaded Steve Brown’s book but havent been able to sit and really read it as school just started for my daughter – life is chaos. Harry stuck that long Greyhound needle nose in the bowl and Hoovered the food down! He went back to the bowl 4-5 times looking for more lol
September 15, 2013 at 9:18 am in reply to: Food mix recommendations and homemade food book recommendations? #24657 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberNo that would be MIRACULOUS! Something that he likes and it likes him back lol. I’m on a roll!! 1st Natues Logic, then the raw, now the premix… I may actually be able to rotate foods with him, never would’ve dreamed of that a year ago.
September 15, 2013 at 6:42 am in reply to: Food mix recommendations and homemade food book recommendations? #24651 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberI gave Harry his 1st premix meal last night — good Lord he devoured it & looked for more! And no problems with output this morning YAY! π
FreeholdHoundMemberMy weekend hours got screwed up so I couldn’t get over to Raaw’s. My fault. I’m tempted to just buy the freezer & figure out where to put it later. At this point the garage is my only spot.
FreeholdHoundMemberI also have my eye on a very small freezer – trying to figure out where I can put it π
FreeholdHoundMemberI just put thru an order from Raw Pet Food Nation – just a little one. I couldn’t get my Tripe Patties locally so I gave it a shot.
FreeholdHoundMemberGlad to read this- I just got a new container & it’s never been solid.
September 13, 2013 at 4:28 pm in reply to: Food mix recommendations and homemade food book recommendations? #24601 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberThank you Patty! That’s what I thought but wasn’t quite sure π
September 13, 2013 at 3:13 pm in reply to: Food mix recommendations and homemade food book recommendations? #24596 Report AbuseFreeholdHoundMemberI think I screwed up my question (apologies, bad week). I’m keeping the 1 1/2 cups of kibble in the AM, but will be mixing things around in the PM. When I use the See Spot Live Longer premix w/ the raw ground meat I eliminate the kibble if I’m reading things correctly – it’s the amount of ground meat I’m confused with.
