  • Oops! He normally gets another 1 1/2 cups of kibble in the PM, or a mix of raw/kibble

Okay my brain’s gone to sleep… I just received my See Spot Live Longer premix – If I’m giving Harry (80 lbs) 1 1/2 cups of kibble in the AM how much ground meat should I give him in the PM with the mix?

Cyndi- good for you but I’m not sure others in this house would appreciate rabbit heads in the freezer, but I want to try the rabbit pieces out.

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #24367 Report Abuse

LOL… I have only 1 refrigerator for dog and people. Dog food get 1/4 of freezer space human’s ice cream, bread etc has the other 3/4.

Tripe Sale??? I gotta make room! Does my family REALLY need bread? And what are lamb trotter bones anyway?

Yep trying to avoid chicken. I thought Grandma Lucy’s was ok but didn’t get to recheck. Thanks for the others – never heard of them. It’s nice to have options for him. 🙂

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #24323 Report Abuse

Which did you get? I did fine with the ground as it was partially frozen. But then I ordered the Tripe Strips & let them defrost a lot more to divide – between the smell & being elbow deep in cow stomach – it wasn’t the most enjoyable evening I had. Mouth breathing was key! Plus open windows & a fan 🙂

Since I’m limited on my kibble options for Harry but I do want to rotate his diet (using Natures Logic & raw at this point) I ordered some of the See Spot Live Longer premix. I like that I can control the protein & avoid chicken/turkey. I looked into the Urban Wolf and HK Preference but both contain sweet potato. Any other suggestions for adding variety?

    Gift Certificate AND a freezer… Nom I’m really jealous !!!! 🙂

Thanks Patty! Good to hear. Harry’s a confirmed Tripe addict it seems

Congratulations on the win Cyndi !!

Neezerfan- yes I did go to L’Oreal event. It was fun & since I went early, not as hot as last year. Lots of vendors & dog groups. The lines were loooong for the freebies at the dog food companies but since Harry can’t eat most of them I didn’t have to deal with it. This was the 10th and final year for it, I don’t think their doing the smaller farm event in the fall either. 🙁

Cyndi- I’ll look into the rabbit pieces- Thanks. I ordered the Beef Gullet slices last time. They’re huge & he liked it. Trying the Tripe Strips frozen too although I’m not sure they’ll do anything for his teeth.

Sandy- A whole cows head? Oh Lord I don’t think I could handle that lol.

Suggestions for turkey neck/chicken feet replacements? Trying to back off poultry a bit, but Harry loves his witchie hands and stands by my fridge after last turn out waiting for his snack. I want to keep giving bones for his teeth. Duck feet seem like a substitute for a snack. I’ve been told that duck necks may be too small for a large Greyhound. The pork necks ^^ sound interesting, I wonder where I can get them.

InkedMarie – FreeholdHound is Jeanne. Hi! 🙂

in reply to: I'm discouraged :( #24175 Report Abuse

InkedMarie- so sorry to hear about your Boone. I’m feeling the same way tonight. Calling my Vet tomorrow to have Harry’s ear checked out. He also had a string of ear infections when I first got him- usually it’s his left ear. 3 months ago he had another one, and that’s what started my research and putting him on Natures Logic which is the only food I’ve found w/none of his trigger ingredients. I’ve started adding in raw & he’s been loving it all. I hope I haven’t pushed it too far by giving him raw chicken & turkey bones (triggers), he loves them so much & I want bones for his teeth. Feeling a bit depressed about it all also.

Foods that mine have tested reactive to are: chicken, turkey, venison, salmon, whitefish, sweet potato, milk, soy, & corn. I can say I knew most of the above from ugly trial and error with food. I also believe that anything too heavy on peas, beams & legumes can set him off also.
I just recently found Natures Logic Beef Formula and he is doing AMAZING on it. I have tried the Sardine Formula and he likes that one also. There is one more formula I believe I can try which is their Lamb. I am also rotating in raw beef grinds, tripe, or sardines into his kibble.
I want to be able to rotate kibble as I believe that is best but at the moment I am stumped at what other brand to even consider. I will start up my research again after basking in the glory of Natures Logis for a bit 🙂

Marmarx: glad to hear you were pleased with your order. The RE menu is a bit limited for me since I avoid poultry, salmon, & fish. When I have room in my freezer I’ll definately be dropping by for the tripe patties & some beef. I love the options w/ Hare Today but yes, avoiding shipping costs is a plus

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23920 Report Abuse

Me again :). I just received my order from HT and I have a question (I know, what else is new?) I ordered beef gullets …ummm what the hell do I do with these things??? << scratchinghead>>
The description said strips but I’d classify it as large chunks I guess as I am unfamiliar with what a whole piece looks like, I expected something longer. Unsure if this would pose a choking hazard. I’m sure I’m over thinking again but has anyone ordered these before?
I also received the raw Green Tripe strips… Harry better appreciate these as scooping it out of the bag & separating was was NOT the highlight of my year. He must have smelled it (ok, I think the neighbors probably smelled it) because he was dancing around Behring the kitchen gate whining & crying. Yes, he got a piece to shut him up.

Hi. So sorry for all you’ve gone thru. I can relate to some of it. My Greyhound Harry would do ok on food for a few weeks at best & then “milkshake” poo would start , or he would just refuse to eat some foods. I tried Brothers too & loved it but as usual it didn’t end up lasting. I started to realize that I couldn’t feed him chicken, turkey, salmon or sweet potato. Recent allergy test confirmed and added oatmeal, venison, white fish, milk, and soy to the list- UGH! I liked Brothers too but realized their beef formula contained turkey & chicken too. Thought I’d never find a kibble that excluded ALL of the triggers but I found Natures Logic (Beef formula first). It’s been over a month and no bad reactions. I’m now trying their Sardine formula – the dog that wouldn’t /couldn’t go near fish is scarfing it down. It’s not the cheapest but I think it’s reasonable. No stores near me carry the kibble but I’ve been ordering off Wag.com & get free shipping.
Just a thought if yours like fish formulas. Good luck – I’m sure you’ll get lots of good advice here .

I just separated my 1st package of the HT Rabbit gring & I have to that is some beautiful meat – very impressed. Lets hope Harry thinks so too 🙂

So today is “Turkey Neck Night”. Last week I just gave him the neck alone as his dinner. The neck defrosting now is huge! I don’t want to constipated him (I can’t believe I typed that word regarding “milkshake poo” Harry). Should I offer him a small bit of ground beef, tripe or kibble to go with it?

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23604 Report Abuse

I don’t know if its any help to you but I use Halo Herbal Ear Wash on Harry who can get a bit gunky at times. Seems to be gentle & he doesn’t mind it too much.

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23594 Report Abuse

Happy to report that since starting Harry on the Natures Logic kibble & raw mix his umm “output” has never been this good. Not 100% of the time- but drastically improved. I am thrilled with the improvement.

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23570 Report Abuse

Hi again! There’s no poultry in our world except for turkey necks & chicken feet for chewing. As Harry is a tripe addict the patties would be what I would go for and maybe I beef/bone mix if I run low. I think there’s a beef/pork mix that would be ok too. Freezer will be full with my HT order coming in this week, but I think I’ll run out of tripe before I need to order again.

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23564 Report Abuse

Oh I’ve become a Hare Today addict – have another order shipping Monday. I wouldn’t use the grinds w/ veggies at all. Would be interested in this for the tripe and maybe beef grind w/ organ/bone/tripe. Menu is very limited for me so would use to supplement HT & save on some shipping costs. He has quite a large network of co ops and gets good reviews. I am 5 blocks away from him so I don’t have to use co-op. I have a single dog and very limited freezer space so ordering/buying in bulk isn’t an option.

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23561 Report Abuse

Wow. Sent an email for info & received immediate reply- nice. Said I can just stop in and buy whatever I want. This could be my convenience store for raw food. The tripe patties would be the ultimate convenience (laziness). I will have to study the menu in detail

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23560 Report Abuse

Opinions on prices for those that have local sources. Menu is a bit limited for me do to a lot of poultry, but it’s 5 minutes away so no shipping charges.i hope this posts (computer illiterate)

    Not a clue lol

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23484 Report Abuse

So I was perusing the Hare Today site again (this may become an obsession) and I noticed the Green Tripe Strips & the Beef Gullet Strips. Sounds like good chew options (frozen) for Harry. Anyone order these?

in reply to: Just got my bottle of enzymes today, have a ? #23478 Report Abuse

Oh my too funny! Harry only gets the DE daily and a probiotic capsule every other day. Any time he’s ever been on meds I just wrap it in good old peanut butter. He’d never refuse peanut butter.

in reply to: Just got my bottle of enzymes today, have a ? #23476 Report Abuse

I just received the Swanson’s DE also. I have been throwing 1 pill into Harry’s AM kibble meal. Evidently he doesn’t like the taste – the 1st day he scarfed down all the food & left the DE pill in the bowl. I now break it up w/a spoon & throw it in. He hasn’t noticed it. He’s 83lbs so I give him 1/day. His PM meal is a kibble/raw mix usually containing tripe so I don’t feel I need to add it then.

Oops ! Just realized I totally misread the post. My Bad – sorry

in reply to: Least Expensive 5 Star Raw Brand #23412 Report Abuse

Topdog: it depends on where you live & what’s available in store. The only 5 star I used w/ success was Victor , & loved it. No stores carry it in the NE but found one online w/ good prices & shipping. Merrick is available in stores but my dog didn’t do well on it. Their Whole Earth Farm line was always something I wanted to use for its quality & price, but couldn’t. I’m using Natures Logic (getting online) not the cheapest but its working for us.

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23306 Report Abuse

Yep. Plus no sooner would I convince myself that I had found “The One” and order a big bag – Harry would start to react to it. Luckily what I couldn’t return I could donate when Superstorm Sandy hit.

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23303 Report Abuse

Inkedmarie : Found it! Glad I can get the mid size bag — I’ve learned my lesson w/large bags until I know if it will work

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23292 Report Abuse

Will do – checked Wag Chewy & Amazon earlier

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23279 Report Abuse

Good luck- I’m trying to locate the Sardine for my next bag. If not then I’ll try the Lamb. I didn’t know they published emails – I hope I used spellcheck !!

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23277 Report Abuse

Thank you I will. For now I’m testing the turkey necks. He’s tolerated chicken feet for quite a while now. It’s the bones I’m most interested in for his teeth. Since he’s eating kibble/ raw I don’t feel any real urge to push it . He loves his beef, lamb, pork & sardines. I’ve given him bits of chicken now & again but I don’t do it frequently. Maybe for Thansgiving he’ll have some turkey 🙂

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23269 Report Abuse

I think I’ve found NL Beef kibble about 20min away, but not the Sardine formula, I will have to call and see if they will possibly order some. I’ve also found a raw food supplier very close to me – not the biggest menu selection, but there are a few things I’m interested in (when I have room). Have him on the “call” list too.

in reply to: Raaw energy #23268 Report Abuse

Yes, the menu is limited and since I don’t have a separate freezer I need to study it a bit more. I’m at capacity w/ my Hare Today order. I love the idea of the individually wrapped tripe patties though- since I mix with kibble that would be so convenient (and pure laziness on my part LOL).

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23263 Report Abuse

Natures Logic isn’t available by me either- I ordered it from Wag.com. Since it was my 1st order I got 20% off and free shipping. I’ll keep checking around to see what else I can find & compare prices online. I believe Amazon has it also. 🙂

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23261 Report Abuse

Right now I’m using the NL Beef formula & will be trying out the Sardine one next. I’m experimenting at the moment. I feed kibble in the AM & a mix w/ raw PM. Harry can’t have quite a few things in his kibble but so far he can if its raw. Turkey and chicken being the top 2. I’m trying to avoid those plus Salmon, venison white fish, sweet potato, & oatmeal in kibble- Natures Logic is just about the only kibble that has none of the ingredients that I’m trying to avoid. Miraculous. I am excited that he had the turkey neck w/no ill effects – turkey in kibble was his primary problem & turkey necks are something I’ve really wanted to use to help keep his teeth clean.
Inkedmarie- I think I left a review on Hare Today. I wrote an email to NL thanking them for such a great product. Maybe they posted it? I haven’t looked.

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23249 Report Abuse

Inkedmarie- I believe I did lol. I am LOVING this stuff for Harry, ahemmm…. Excuse me, HARRY is loving this stuff :). After a year of kibble hell to find Natures Logic and get all the help I’ve gotten from this AMAZING forum it feels like Christmas!!! My family is convinced I’ve gone off the deep end but they never had to walk a dog with paper plates in hand instead of poop bags BLECH

Posted on Hare Today thread… He was in Houndie heaven and sleeping it off…

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23231 Report Abuse

**Update** Harry polished that off nicely, went out (so far so good), drank 1/2 a bowl of water (?) and promptly went into his crate & went to sleep. What a life

in reply to: Hare Today Gone Tomorrow #23230 Report Abuse

I wish I could figure out how to post a picture… But Harry is happily gnawing away on his 1st turkey neck. I gave it to him outside on the patio- he grabbed it but started pacing. I let him back inside & he went straight to his bed with it. Luckily I remembered a towel. Looks like this may take a while but he appears to be one happy Greyhound. I will be one happy Greyound owner if I don’t pay for this w/ supreme ugliness later as turkey in kibble has been a huge no no. But so far raw has been the answer 🙂

in reply to: Rmb's and recreational bones #23227 Report Abuse

Well the turkey neck is waiting in the fridge, so tonight’s the night. Of course we were out all morning at a huge dog event raising $ for breast cancer & he’s exhausted, but hopefully not too tired to chew 🙂

in reply to: Food Allergies making finding a food difficult #23099 Report Abuse

I would say Natures Logic too if pup is ok w/ sardine. My boy can’t have salmon or white fish but does fine w/ sardines. He’s doing great on NL beef formula.

in reply to: serious concerns about blue buffalo #23067 Report Abuse

BB was the 1st kibble I gave my greyhound after adopting him. The kennel used a mix of kibbles so it was a cold turkey start for Harry. He had horrendous stools & lost hair by the handful. He was only off track for a month so I chalked it up to the huge lifestyle transition, which most likely played a giant part, but I’ve wondered after hearing similar stories if the food made it worse. Guess I’ll never know. Glad to hear the pups are all doing better
