Have you guys tried the Nordic naturals?

in reply to: Omega 3 + 6 Supplement #28282 Report Abuse

FHH is this the Iceland sardine oil that you use?

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #28171 Report Abuse

ok. well i am now feeding duke dr tims kinesis and duke is doing very well. He did not do so well on the NV Rabbit as his stools were very loose. I will try another NV Instinct because his coat and the amount of times he went to the bathroom were greatly improved. I also have tried the wellness core puppy food and it probably was my second favorite dog food behind dr tims. I recommend these dog foods to anyone with a large breed puppy

wow im so dumb i had to log in to view the document. But interesting thing though on wellness core’s site it says the calcium on their puppy food is 1.5 but HDM has it listed as 1.23. I wonder if they updated their formula and now it has more calcium

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #28165 Report Abuse

Damn Marie or another one of you ladies that have the list can you reupload it as i believe something happened to the original document that HDM posted. I cant open the google docs anymore

in reply to: Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Enzymes, oh my! #26666 Report Abuse

I’ve been using Biostareq terra biota k9 probiotic and it has made duke totally a new puppy. His stools are pretty much completely firm even though we are still using the nv rabbit in his food. I’d look into it. It’s a powder you sprinkle on the doff and it’s lasted me a good amour of time.

in reply to: Red Bone Coon Hound – Always Hungry?! #26461 Report Abuse

Question. So before you were only feeding moose once a day in the mornings? If so yes definitely split up the food in half and give him half in the morning and half at night. Whatever feeding guidelines the food you are giving him just split in half.

in reply to: Firming up the "Output" — sorry for subject #26438 Report Abuse

I know the probiotic that i recently put my dog on has really improved his stool consistency almost to completely normal. Could be something to look into for 25$. The name is BiostarEq Terra Biota K9. I remember someone saying that the kefir didnt have that many active cultures

in reply to: What Is "Necessary?" #26399 Report Abuse

Robert I would look into a probiotic called Biostareq eq terra biota k9. I just started giving I to my puppy and within 2 days his stools we’re firm and no more yeast and itchy red ears and feet. The probiotic you listed I think only has one main strain of probiotic. The one I listed has I believe over 10 with each bacteria having a 1.5 billion cfu count. It is really am amazing deal for 25$ since it lasts for months. I really have seen this probiotic completely change my dogs stomach and skin for the better within a week. Super happy with this product.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #26384 Report Abuse

Wow April very nice find. My puppy is having sensitivities to the high protein in the rabbit at 36% protein. He is having loose stools but since going on more dr Tim’s kinesis food his stools have firmed up. I may have to try that next round. I just got dr Tim’s and I will be reporting in a couple weeks.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #26357 Report Abuse

Terra Biota also contains a synergistic mushroom blend for prebiotic support, the specific earth elements kaolin clay and calcium bentonite for mineral and alkalizing pH support, as well as the additional prebiotics: MOS, and FOS, and the Soil Based Organisms, which are cultured probiotics found in healthy soils.

That’s what she said. She said that the soil has natural bacteria that is beneficial to dogs but in order for them to get a good amount of that bacteria they have to eat a lot of dirt. But for the most part it is used that a prebiotic

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #26355 Report Abuse

Hey karnik I can comment on the probiotics and enzymes part. For the enzymes I use the Swanson digestive enzymes and you can find them on amazon. For the probiotics I just found this formula and so far it’s doing crazy good amounts of improvement in duke’s stools. The probiotic is Biostareq K9 terra biota.
    http://biostareq.com/formulas/canine/terra-biota-k9
The probiotic has very good count of different strains and also it has some clay in the formula which even further helps absorb toxins. I emailed their owner and formulator and she was very quick and detailed in her responses. Everything she has made she said that she has personally used and tested them on her own dogs and her friends dogs. I’m really surprised how well and in how little time the probiotic has started to work.

Yeah I absolutely love boxers. Duke is so amazing and friendly. Almost every person stops at the pet store to see him. He is such a ladies boy. It’s been like 5 years since my other dog passed away and I forgot how amazing dogs can make you feel. That’s why I care and worry so much about him. I want him to be with me as long as possible.

in reply to: FYI – Milk Bone Minis vs a larger size #26347 Report Abuse

The treat i mentioned in the other post is a raw dehydrated treat. Only 1 protein source and no fillers.I want to transition my guy into raw foods once he gets above 9 months

Im very weary of the food and the treats i give my little guy. I just bought some of the THK beams and he absolutely loves them. Only problem is that his stools are somewhat softer again. Could it be cuz the beams have 88% protein? i know that the NV Rabbit im feeding him now is too rich in protein and was causing him to have loose stools. I have since then been mixing dr tims and the rabbit and his stools were a lot more firm.

in reply to: FYI – Milk Bone Minis vs a larger size #26334 Report Abuse

are milk bones bad? when i take my puppy to play with my friends older dog he always gives my little guy milk bones. Also Cyndi and Marie can you look at the treats i posted in the treats section. I want to see what you guys think of the ingredients and what not. Thank you 😀

in reply to: BioStarEq K9 Dog Star Fish Treats #26153 Report Abuse

Also I want to add that he said the treats were raw and then dehydrated so it still has most if not all of its natural enzymes and probiotics. The treats looks really good and the person who formulates all of biostareq’s products was super friendly and a answered any question I ha. He even asked for a picture of duke and he sent me one back of his new Australian Shepard. What I like most from their company is their customer service. But I ordered the honest kitchen beams to try them out since many people have had wonderful reviews of the fish beams.

in reply to: Dr Harvey's vs Sojos #26115 Report Abuse

I don’t believe dogs are affected by salmonella due to their intestine track being too short and not allowing the salmonella to stay in the intestine. I maybe be wrong here it’s just what I’ve read from these forums.

in reply to: Dr Harvey's vs Sojos #26111 Report Abuse

Isn’t garlic good in moderation for dogs? I know for use humans garlic is great for providing health benefits.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #26107 Report Abuse

I don’t mean to derail this thread so I started another topic in the dog treats section. Can some of you who are more knowledgable than me in canine nutrition comment. Here is the thread.
    /forums/topic/biostareq-k9-dog-star-fish-treats/
I have emailed the company and their formulator was very friendly and responded very quickly. He said that the ratio of phos to calcium was one to one and also the fish meal they use is free of any mercury. Any thoughts? They also has a liver meal treat.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #26106 Report Abuse

I know my vet gave me some samples of the nutri source large feed chicken and fce to help firm my puppies stools and his stools were very good after I started mixing in the nutri source with the nv rabbit. Nutri source is definitely on my list to try again as it is very reasonably priced.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #26063 Report Abuse

Please let me know you results sully I didn’t even think of where they sourced it from.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #26058 Report Abuse

Sully is your dog has no problem with foods with high protein I would really recommend the rabbit if you can catch it on sale. I’ve never seen my dookie’s coat so amazing. He also loves the taste of te nv. I think it’s cuz they have a raw freeze dried putter layer so dogs go crazy over. It was a little weird when I first gt the bag cuz the food was so black but it is how it’s suppose to be. Let me know if you have an questions about nv. I just order dr Tim’s kinesis Grain inclusive so I will be reviewing that in a couple weeks.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #26019 Report Abuse

My dog absolutely devours and loves loves his natures variety rabbit meal. Great bag of food. I will always buy a 30 pound bag when it’s on sale. My dookie’s coat is gorgeous. Even when he’s the dirtiest and we are about to clean him he still has a shiny ad soft coat. I’m not too sure if he rabbit doesn’t have any potatoes but I know it is grain free.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #25790 Report Abuse

Yeah it’s just strange. I would give him a Swanson digestive enzyme with every meal and no luck in firming the stools. Also was giving him the Swanson probiotic but since then the vet gave me an iams probiotic with a really high bacteria count. I will though consider baking the pumpkin next time. Thank you patty

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #25784 Report Abuse

I tried giving him some natural pumpkin which I boiled for a little to soften it up for him. Unfortunately it didn’t help much till I switched him to a lower protein food.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #25780 Report Abuse

My boy is not doing so well on nv. Everything is amazing and I definitely will be buying this food again cuz his coat is amazing and has no rashes anywhere but at this current time I think the formula has too much protein and is causing quite loose stools. Since then I’ve been mixing half nv and half of this natural balance and his stools has improved greatly. I’m thinking of trying dr Tim’s kinase grain inclusive next rotation. What do you guys think? Can a food with too much protein cause loose stools in a dog? I haven’t been over feeding him as I’m feeding under the recommended dosage and still wen I try and go back to more nv than the natural balance the stools go back to very soft.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #25777 Report Abuse

If you go now on wag.com you can use the code wagmobile and get 15% off. It takes down the price of nv to 62$

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #25776 Report Abuse

And yeah pet flow usually had the cheapest.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #25775 Report Abuse

Sorry for the confusion. I had a discount code for the 1st order on wag.com of 15% off and also at the time they were doing a sale on NV. I just went back on the website and it’s back to regular price. I did find that wag.com wasn’t the cheapest but they most frequently had discounts and sales. Also super amazing customer service. They answered at 11 O’clock at night my time cuz I ordered the wrong formula and they were more than happy to help me.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #25772 Report Abuse

jewels i ordered the biggest NV Rabbit Meal online and i had it shipped to my door for $53. Shipping was free. I would really really strongly advise everyone to purchase online. Very cheap and very fast shipping and turnarounds.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #25391 Report Abuse

I use wag.com and chewy.com and it is super convenient even though I love in mii and have access to many pet stores. Online it’s cheaper always and you get free shipping on most 30 pound bags.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #25056 Report Abuse

Mfulton I bought the instinct based on the list from hdm. I used both wellness core and natures variety and I personally think he is doing much on the nv rabbit instinct but lately his stools have been loose but I think that is because he is teething.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #25043 Report Abuse

I can’t comment too much on the foods as I have only tried wellness core puppy formula and the nature’s variety rabbit formula. My boxer/American bulldog absolutely loves loves the nature’s variety and it has made him poop less times a day. I would maybe try adding some enzymes to your dobbie’s food to see if his body can better absorb more of the food. I’m sure Marie or patty or hdm will further comment.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #24991 Report Abuse

Wow I think that might be exactly it. He now just starting loosing the very last of his baby teeth. The enzymes are for sure working though as he has been doing less poop though. He is about to be like 5 months old

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #24987 Report Abuse

Yeah he is on the dr langer 15 strain. I just upped the dosage after his stools loosened. I judt bought some fresh pumpkin and cut it up in big cubes and I gave him one for lunch. Im just curious as to why his stools loosened at the end of his last food. He is not a big eater of things of the ground thank god. I dont think it can be cuz the food has too much protein right? The vet isnt much help. I want to go to a new vet now that he is neutered and is done with all the things from the adoption.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #24965 Report Abuse

Hello hdm and friends unfortunately duke has been having loose stools towards the end of his bag of wellness core puppy formula. This confused me because his stools had been firm but it did have an oily look to it, and then right as I was gonna receive the next bag of food which is now natures variety lamb (which he absolutely loves and devours) his stools softened up to now diarrhea. The vet said his stool sample came up fine and prescribed him something for inflammation I believe of the liver or colon? I now give him a Swanson digestive enzyme twice a day out of his 3 meals. Can someone maybe give me some advice or some type of direction as to what I should do for dookie.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #24736 Report Abuse

^^ to sara i had my puppy on welness core and he enjoyed the food a lot and his coat was always very nice and soft. I recently just finished the bag so i rotated to the nature’s variety rabbit meal and my boy loves it even more! He absolutely devours all the food and his stools have been very good. Im no expert but id say start giving your guy some coconut oil supplements and maybe look into a turmeric supplement. Maybe HDM can further chime in

in reply to: Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Enzymes, oh my! #24699 Report Abuse

I guess just to clarify for anyone coming across this thread. What are digestive enzymes and how can they help your dog? Enzymes also help the absorption of nutrients correct?

in reply to: Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Enzymes, oh my! #24644 Report Abuse

Enzymes for pets can you reccomend a good probiotic with a high amount of cfu. I was looking at the probiotic miracle but I was not sure if all of the cultures were high enough in quantity. I am feeding my dog currently a digestive enzyme from swarnsons. Please advise what is a good enyme. I wss looking at naturvrt but it has a low cfu of the probiotics.

in reply to: Prebiotics, Probiotics, and Enzymes, oh my! #24355 Report Abuse

HDM please comment on the person above as I just ordered the NV formula and also I want to start giving my guy enzymes and probiotics so he can have a good immune system and since I feed him dry kibbke. I rather give him kefir as I drink that myself daily but will that be enough probiotics for him? I plan on ordering one bottle of the swanson products mentioned above to introduce the bacteria to his system. Please advise HDM.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #22661 Report Abuse

I was trying to looking for something that wasnt too many colories as I’m still training him to walk on a leash and to potty on the grass and not the outside tile; which isn’t a huge deal but I want him to know where is the place to poop. Haha. Back to the training treats I was reading maybe something like baby carrots? I took him to the vet today and he is 22 pounds at close to 16 weeks old. I got a fecal test done and nothing came up. He looks healthy, the ribs are barely visible but honestly I rather keep him a littler slimmer before he gets neutered so he will gain not as much weight. He is still getting the proper food portions and today I just started rotating in wellness core.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #22654 Report Abuse

Hey hdm I know this is off topic but can you recomend a good small treat for training my little one? 🙂 the treats I’m using now are only 1 1/2 calorie per soft kibble. Pet botanics is the name of the brand.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #22533 Report Abuse

Hello hdm can you recomend any other forums for getting formation about training and other information on puppies and later breeds? This is my first puppy as an adult so I want to do it right.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #22287 Report Abuse

Thank you very much hdm. You have been great great help! I hope your doggies are doing good! Oh by the way I asked dr Tim if the pursuit dog food was too much calories for my puppy and he said the pursuit would work just as well as his all life stages formula. I’m not too sure why he didnt label it as all life stages. Could you possibly recomend a 4 star or 4.5 star puppy food that is a little cheaper than wellness core? I want to eventually rotate his food more. I was thinking around the same price range as earthborn holistic but maybe something with a little more protein.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #22279 Report Abuse

Okay hound dog mom. Thank you for your response. I was talking to dr Tim and he said it was okay for puppies and it had a pretty low calcium %. I just got in the mail today wellness core puppy formula and I will follow up in a couple weeks to say how duke responds to the food. One question I have is that he has been kind of itchy lately even though he has no flees or ticks; I also saw some scratch marks under his arm from him scratching himself, can the dryness of his skin be because of the chicken based nutro that I have been feeding him?

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #22159 Report Abuse

Dr Tim was extremely friendly and had no problem disclosing any information I need as far as calcium levels or anything. Which leads me to think there is another reason why she didnt put it it o her list.

in reply to: Large and Giant Breed Puppy Nutrition #22155 Report Abuse

HDM I was wondering why you did not list dr Tim’s pursuit formula in your list? I emailed dr Tim and he said Pursuit calcium is 1.06 and the Kinesis GF is 1.51%. I also asked him and he said its okay for puppies
