Okay, thanks!
Dog_ObsessedMemberOkay, thanks. I did notice the disappointing change in the rolls.
Dog_ObsessedMemberOrijen is a great food from what I’ve heard, though it is quite expensive. I’ve been looking at other foods, Nulo freestyle is free from almost all of these, but it does have carrots about halfway through the ingredients. Since the biggest obstacles might be grains and potatoes, InkedMarie’s topic on grain and white potato free foods might be a good place to start. /forums/topic/grain-and-potato-free-dog-foods/
Nature’s Variety Instinct L.I.D Turkey meal formula is also free of all his allergens, but it is rather carb heavy and doesn’t look that healthy otherwise.
Also, I have heard that cutting down on just some allergens can be helpful, if it is not possible to eliminate all allergens. Good luck!
Edit: Just saw aquariantgt’s post, agree with the thing about the canned food.

Dog_ObsessedMemberLily is still enjoying these very much, but I have noticed she often drinks water after chewing them. I know they do contain some salt, but I don’t think it would be enough to cause a problem if eating slowly. Would anyone expect these making her thirsty to be an issue?
Dog_ObsessedMemberThanks for the input! Is the reason you don’t trust NB because of the recalls, or because some of their formulas are really carb heavy?

Dog_ObsessedMemberHappy Halloween everyone! It is raining here today, so we are all crossing our fingers and paws for tonight!

Dog_ObsessedMemberI’ve fostered some chihuahuas, they were all great dogs and most of them defied the negative stereotypes. Most of them still HATED the rain though, tell me about it!

Maybe the internet is bogged down because of the word series? Just a thought. 🙂
Dog_ObsessedMemberOh, dogs!
October 29, 2014 at 9:24 pm in reply to: Something entirely unrelated to dog food. #55959 Report AbuseDog_ObsessedMember@BCnut Yup! I saw the topic.
@Naturella Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, I hope everything turns out okay. 🙂

Edit: Yup!

Dog_ObsessedMemberYes, she conveniently did it in the middle of the night, resulting in an emergency room trip to get a new one.
Dog_ObsessedMemberOMG, so cute! Lily would likely not be a costume fan, so she just is sporting a pumpkin bandana this halloween.
Dog_ObsessedMemberROFL, the last sentence! Whenever we have house guests we show them what Lily did to her cone after she was spayed, such a cute, fluffy friendly dog couldn’t have possibly done that…
Dog_ObsessedMemberThat’s so strange! I’m glad you found a solution though. I also feed my dog on an open plate, because she is not a fan of the bowl.

Dog_ObsessedMemberI have a question regarding USA made jerky, I have heard from some sources that it is only the treats from China that have a problem, but from others that no commercial jerky treats are safe. Wellness makes a jerky treat with good ingredients that claims to be made in to US, is this safe to feed?
October 26, 2014 at 12:05 pm in reply to: Something entirely unrelated to dog food. #55656 Report AbuseDog_ObsessedMemberThanks, that would make sense. Also, Hound Dog Mom is marked as a “moderator,” so it seems there is that role also.
October 26, 2014 at 11:47 am in reply to: Something entirely unrelated to dog food. #55653 Report AbuseDog_ObsessedMemberThis is completely unrelated to dog food or chickens, but does anyone know what the difference between “member” and “participant” is?
October 25, 2014 at 11:35 pm in reply to: Something entirely unrelated to dog food. #55629 Report AbuseDog_ObsessedMemberWow, that sounds pretty intense. It definitely sounds like banning the word was the only way to go.
October 25, 2014 at 9:10 pm in reply to: Something entirely unrelated to dog food. #55618 Report AbuseDog_ObsessedMemberI’m so sorry for your loss BCnut. 🙁
About the b*r*o*t*h*e*r*s thing, what actually happened? I know there was some event with a troll on in the comments thread for the food, but what how did that lead to the word being banned? If this is forbidden to talk about you don’t have to answer this.
Dog_ObsessedMemberSorry your going through a hard time, I hope things get better soon. One thing that might be helpful is activity toys such as Kongs, because they will give her mental stimulation.
Dog_ObsessedMemberAwww, she’s so cute!
Dog_ObsessedMemberThere is a Facebook community called Susie’s Senior Dogs that is dedicated to publicizing dogs in need of rescue and sharing success stories: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/27877394/
Dog_ObsessedMemberI am so sorry for your loss. Thank you so much for rescuing a senior. You truly made her last 3 years amazing.
Dog_ObsessedMemberI have not fed these treats, but considering how many problems there have been with jerky treats being recalled, I would definitely steer clear.
October 24, 2014 at 7:33 pm in reply to: Something entirely unrelated to dog food. #55520 Report AbuseDog_ObsessedMemberI’m back! 😀 The trip was awesome!
Dog_ObsessedMemberYup, sounds like your on the right track! In a world with so many obese pets, it is good that she is so active and strong!
Dog_ObsessedMemberYeah, I kept getting adds for DentaSticks so I finally looked them up. The ingredients were horrible. I guess it is better to give treats with bad ingredients once and a while then to give food with bad ingredients every day, but I prefer neither one.
Dog_ObsessedMemberThanks! I was also was originally looking at edible “dental chews,” but I have heard they are are really no substitute for brushing and can be dangerous if the dog ingests a large piece. Plus, they are often high-calorie and the ingredients suck in most of them.
Dog_ObsessedMemberI think there can be some health issues associated with being skinny, such as thyroid issues, but if she is healthy otherwise that is unlikely. If she doesn’t gain weight with increased food, or if she loses it, then I would start to worry about health issues but right now your plan sounds good. 🙂
Dog_ObsessedMemberSounds like a plan! You said the vet said she was strong, so I assume she has been checked for health issues right?
Dog_ObsessedMemberTo upload a profile pic, go to http://en.gravatar.com and create an account. I know it sounds more time-consuming then needed, but it really doesn’t take that long.
Dog_ObsessedMemberI saw some “calorie boost” supplements at the pet store today, maybe those would help?
Dog_ObsessedMemberLily LOVES rope toys, in fact I just finished a tuggy session with her new rope. I think it maybe helps clean her teeth a little, but most of the plaque I can see (which isn’t that much, but is definitely there.) is on the gum line of her canine teeth, which pretty much only brushing can remove. She is currently eating kibble, though I will soon start mixing in wet. I definitely no long believe the myth of dry food cleaning a dog’s teeth, though I don’t think wet food cleans it either. 😀

Dog_ObsessedMemberCan you control the on/off switch? That would be a useful feature. 😀
Dog_ObsessedMemberOkay, thanks, I’ll have to try that.
Dog_ObsessedMemberSo I should probably leave what kind of levels of protein, fat, carbs, etc. is best in a weight gain food to the more experienced people on this forum, but I can give a little advice. If your dog has been completely checked for health issues that might keep her from losing weight, she probably just has more calories going out than in. Maybe you could use the dog food calculator on this site to figure out how much you should feed her, put in the weight you want her to be, not the weight that she is currently. You could also feed slightly more than the given amount. I hope this is helpful!
Dog_ObsessedMemberI just went on the purina Facebook page, and it was HILARIOUS how they replied to comments. They are citing nothing but their own website.
Dog_ObsessedMember@BCnut That’s probably good a lot of the time. I actually love JRTs, I think I sort of have a personal relation to them. 😀 My friend has a JRT chihuahua mix that is the calmest dog I’ve ever met though, so that proves it is just a stereotype. Also, Lily has some terrier aspects to her. She digs in the furniture when she’s bored, is completely obsessed with squirrels, and she loves to chew, which is why she likes Himalayan chews!
Dog_ObsessedMember@pugmomsandy I have never tried them, but they seem like a genius idea! Also, the reviews on Chewy say they are good but don’t last too long.
Dog_ObsessedMember@BCnut I know I’m breed stereotyping, but I’m not that surprised that Angel ate the whole thing. She is a JRT. 🙂
Dog_ObsessedMemberI got a pack of 4 small ones today, and I am thrilled with them so far. Their small size made me a little nervous, so I put part of one end in Lily’s kong. I gave it to her for ~15-20 min tonight, and all she ate was a few little flecks. The chew softened as she chewed, and the way she chewed it made me think it would not damage her teeth and might even help clean them. I don’t want her to eat more than about 1/4-1/2 an inch per day, because of calories, but I don’t think she will even eat that much of it, it comes off pretty slowly.
Dog_ObsessedMemberYay, thanks for posting that! Lily LOVES those chews, thought they don’t last her long.
October 17, 2014 at 10:49 pm in reply to: What dog food gives you the best "bang for your buck"? #54994 Report AbuseDog_ObsessedMember@Mellissaandcrew Okay, thanks, I will keep that in mind. I might still try the food with Lily but I will stop if it upsets her stomach. She is sort of moderate in terms of sensitivity, She requires ~1 week for transition from food to food.
Dog_ObsessedMemberJust found this thread, and I just wanted to say THANK YOU for taking in a senior pup! I have volunteered with a local senior dog rescue, and I just love the oldies. There is also a great Facebook page called Susie’s Senior Dogs, that posts senior dogs up for adoption along with success stories and resources: https://www.facebook.com/susiesseniordogs
One question for Dori about the glucosamine supplements, I give the stage 1 version to Lily for mild luxuriating patella. I did not know that it was good not to give it with food, is that only for advanced care? Thanks!
October 16, 2014 at 10:43 pm in reply to: What dog food gives you the best "bang for your buck"? #54927 Report AbuseDog_ObsessedMember@DogFoodie It’s fine! It happens! I agree, there should be a “confirm report” thing. Once Lily was on my lap while I was scrolling, and I realized her paw was on my trackpad because the page went crazy!
@Melissaandcrew What was the problem? Did it upset their stomach, or cause allergies?October 16, 2014 at 8:03 pm in reply to: What dog food gives you the best "bang for your buck"? #54907 Report AbuseDog_ObsessedMemberI always have trouble with the word suddenly. For some reason spell check rarely knows what suggest the way I spell it, sunndly.
But, back on topic, the Nulo brand has a canned food that is really good priced considering its quality. Nulo Freestyle Grain-Free is 2.99 a can at the local store, and $31 dollars for 12 cans on chewy.
