I did have a good experience the first time I ordered from Chewy… I got a case of 12 large cans of the Wellness turkey formula and a few of them were pretty severely dented and so I just went to chewys website and went to the live chat feature (which I’ve never used before on a website) and asked them if there was anything I could do, thinking they might be willing to credit my account the value of the dented cans and instead they sent out a brand new case the next day and that one when it arrived was perfect. I think I had 3 dented cans so that was 9 free cans. I am donating most of them. But I am not prepared to order a whole case of something new cause like you said….who knows.

So I was down by Petsmart today, so I stopped in to get another $1 Authority deal, and I asked them if I could take 2 of the 5.5oz pate cans instead of the 3.5 oz tubs (the bigger cans are cheaper anyway at 80cents vs 90cents) and it turns out the regular 5.5oz cans of the Authority are part of that deal, the coupon on the shelf was just confusing. I am still so excited about this one. Two 5.5oz cans of Authority pate, and one 4lb bag of Authority dry food came to 99cents plus 5cents tax = $1.04 total. Can’t beat it.

I know from my experience at the cat shelter that there are some cats that I guess must have been raised on dry food and so just will not touch wet food. No way, no how, no kind. Now I do have to add in a caveat that because the cats were kept free roaming in cat rooms we had to free feed dry food, so that would definitely be my first step in transitioning a cat once getting them out of the shelter environment

C4C: I swear that fancy feast is kitty crack. My cats loooovvvee fancy feast. And the fancy feast classic is grain free. I tried feeding that for awhile in rotation to keep my food costs a little lower. Some of the varieties were totally fine a lot of the time I fed them but I think they were all barfed up an inordinate amount…and there was one… I think seafood feast something like that comes in variety packs and that kind was puked up each and every single time I have ever offered.. like right away… it and its a real b*** to clean up because of course the cat always pukes on the carpet, (under my bed a lot which is nice when I don’t find it right away) and the coloring in it stains the crap out of carpet. So I swore off of fancy feast but my cats just love the stuff. Friskies too they love love love love love that stuff. I just try not to even go there again so they don’t think that if they hold out they might get fancy feast. I don’t want to play that game.

I lied. The lamb doesn’t have any pork in it.

I saw on one of the comments though that NV is discontinuing the variety pack? I am not sure. My cats do seem to like all the different NV proteins though. The one thing I have to say that hasn’t thrilled me about NV is that they seem to use a lot of pork. I try not to consume pork for myself or for my animals. Not for any religious reasons, I just like pigs and they are dog smart, so I just prefer not to eat them. I used to be a vegetarian, and I am thinking of going back. But of course my cats have to eat all meat all the time no matter what. So needless to say they’ve never tried the pork variety. They have had the venison, lamb and rabbit which I think might all have pork in it. The salmon does too. But I like to mix up their protein sources cause otherwise its just turkey salmon or chicken. They don’t really care much for the Nature’s Logic Chicken pate, so I have 9 cans or so left of that case and I won’t be ordering it again. Also, I ordered a 12 can case of HALOs whitefish pate because they usually love that one, and it was less expensive at $16.99 then some of the other foods but it seems to me like it smells different then I remember it smelling. They still seem to like it fine, but I really can’t stand feeding it. They liked the Canidae pure Chicken turkey lamb enough to eat it, I got 2 big cans at the store cause I had a coupon but not enough to order it all the time. So I think I am going to order 3 or 4 variety packs incase they do stop carrying them, and that way I also wind up getting 12 cans of duck for 23.00 which is a good deal.

I REALLY don’t want to spend so much money on flippin cat food, BUT…. I have been so very happy with this purchase that I think I am going to order a couple more. I have loved getting 3 different protein choices in one pack, and I feel that since 1/3 is duck it adds value to the purchase. Plus my cats like them all, and most importantly, seem to do very well with this food. Seems to be really digestible and I like that theres no carrageean (sp?). So much for budgeting.

I think its also a pretty close match, its just that the gravyish stuff is thicker than in the Wellness pouches, but you could consider adding water to it. My cats really like the rabbit, chicken and salmon

Aquariangt: Hey, I am amazed that your cats like those Wellness pouches of all things, my cats only lick the gravy and leave the chunks behind. I would look into the Wellness cans that come in sliced or cubed varieties, although you won’t find the same flavor selection, the consistency is similar and my cats like those better. Since they don’t usually like to eat bigger chunks of food I have never gotten the cubed, but I have used the sliced and they eat those. Also, another good one to check out is Nature’s Variety Pride, the flaked varieties, my cats really like those. Oh and one more to check out is Taste of the Wild Rocky Mountain. My cats love those.

Bobby Dog….Ahhh! Well it was very nice of Bobby to think of you and not want you to feel left out. Hopefully he is feeling better. My parents have a 4 month old Standard Schnauzer Puppy that I go see every day so I consider him mine too, and he is ALWAYS trying to eat things that are not at all edible and shouldn’t be eaten. Dogs.

It might be new, I’ve never fed any of the authority line or really even looked at it before I got this buy one bag get two tubs free deal so I am not sure. It had been a long time since I had been in PetSmart. The one that barfs a lot is my senior boy too! I looked at the ingredients and I see it has dried skim milk so maybe thats the culprit? Who knows.
C4C, you’re right I was ticked off at myself for not just throwing it away. I was pretty certain that was going to happen lol. Here is the link to the product…but at PetSmart they had tons of different varieties in these 3.5oz tubs. I got a Chicken Pot Pie one which is what I fed last night and I got a Salmon Chowder or something like that which went into the donation box real fast after puke fest. Wet cat food like that is gross enough out of the can and its even worse after its gone down and then come up again. lol.

So I decided to go ahead and try out feeding one of the Authority Chef’s Entrees stew style wet foods last night. As soon as I opened it up and saw what the chunks in a creamy looking sauce looked like I thought to myself “this is probably going to make Aaron barf I shouldn’t feed this” but then the urge to not waste the cat food overwhelmed me and I decided to give it a try. Bad idea. Barf-o-rama last night. It seems like, once he eats something that makes him barf, then he throws up everything he eats for up to 24 hours sometimes. So I pulled up all the rest of the wet food, and just put down dry food which he did puke up but is much easier to clean up then wet food. This morning I fed a couple of teaspoons of Natures Variety Chicken and that seemed to stay down.

Another option might be to check out the Nature’s Variety LID line, as they use peas and tapioca I think instead of potato which would be a different carb source as BC Nut suggested.

I have a friend with a golden that has a lot of the same food intolerance issues that you described. She has had a lot of luck with this food: http://www.nutro.com/natural-dog-food/natural-choice-dog-food/dry/adult-grain-free-venison-and-potato.aspx She says its the only thing she has found that controls the itching, scabbing, hairloss etc.

Our breeder has been issuing major warnings about issues/side effects with Trifexis. I know it is possible with all such medications but she was adamant that we not use that one. The dog we have gets Vectra 3D and the cats used to get Revolution, however the last time I used it my sensitive skin guy lost the fur that was at the application site. So I asked my vet and he said it sounded suspicious so I am switching them to Activyl. They are indoor only cats so ticks and other nasties aren’t as much of an issue as simply avoiding a flea infestation. I had a choice of Activyl or regular Vectra but I have read that Activyl is the safer of the two, although buying from online sources is really suspect so I only get that stuff through my vet.

Just stumbled upon this convo and I am so glad that I did. Thank you for the heads up on the by nature Bobby Dog, I think I am going to give them a try next month, because this last month I ordered all foods that I really can’t afford to be feeding every month lol.

So I went down to PetSmart today for the first time in a very long time, over a year I would say just to see what they have going on down there and to pick up a bag of that Authority cat food. I saw that the Simply Nourish Source is onsale for $8.99 for the 3lb bag and I can use a $5 off coupon so I will probably go back and pick up a bag of that for 3.99 because when I looked at the nutritional information they were all low in calories which is an important factor to me. I am thinking the Fish and Chicken (I know, I know fish) variety because the cats didn’t like the Wellness Core indoor which is all Turkey and Chicken, and also I got a sample packet of the Nature’s Variety Rabbit Formula and they don’t seem to care for that one much either. What do you guys think?

Anyway the 4lb Authority Cat food was indeed onsale for $5.99, and there was also a PetSmart coupon hanging on the shelf for 2 free 3.5oz tubs of Authority cat food with the purchase of any size authority dry food. So I got the 4lb bag of dry, I got the Turkey Sensitive Systems variety because it looked like the best ingredients to me, and I got 2 tubs of Authority wet food and my total including tax was $1.04. Can’t beat that.

Bobby Dog, I don’t have anything against feeding my cats beef, I just don’t like cleaning up the cat puke. lol. It is definitely a very good food with limited ingredients and I would rotate it too if it worked for my guys. Have you ever looked into Hounds and Gatos rabbit formula?

My cat that has what seems to be an iron stomach, seems to have environmental allergies/sensitivities. He was overgrooming bald patches on his legs and under his arm pits so among other things I switched from a clay litter to Tidy Cats pure naturals and I mix in Blue Buffalo clumping since its been on sale. I don’t really have a go to at this time.

Those Newmans beef and/or liver ones always make my cats barf. And 1 of those cans feeds like a 5.5oz can of most foods so its really rich. I feel like everything I feed anything beef I have barfing. From one of them. I am pretty sure the other one has a gut of steel.

I am not sure how much the Divine Duos are going to be when they are full price, they only just came out, my local pet store just got them in for the first time and they are offering them at 99 cents this month per 2.75oz cup. Literally identical in size and form to the Meow Mix cups, made in Thailand and all. Even 99 cents isn’t worth it, but since I got to try them for less than 50cents each I decided to give them a go. I am not really impressed. I gave my cats the Chicken/Salmon one for their lunchtime snack today and they seemed to like it a lot more than the Chicken/Duck. I think it would be good for people that mostly feed their cats dry food …like free feed dry food and just like to give them a little bit of wet once a day or something but not if you feed mostly or all wet food. It isn’t a thick or firm pate like the regular grain free wellness it seems to be a lot more gelatinous and you will notice that the first two ingredients are liquid I think its Chicken broth and water if my memory serves me correctly so I dont think this will feed like a 3oz can of the regular wellness. I like to give my cats variety though so it was worth checking out.

I just bought 8 of the Divine Duos because they are also on special at my local petstore, and Wellness was nice enough to send me a $5 off of any Wellness purchase $5 or more coupon when I called them awhile ago. So I got 8 for $3. I got the Chicken with Duck, Chicken Turkey and Chicken Salmon varieties. I have only fed the Chicken/Duck so far and the cats thought it was ok. It is basically Wellness’ answer to the Meow Mix Pate toppers, it seems like it is probably even made in the same facility. So yeah, same concept same thing as the meow mix pate toppers just better ingredients…no Wheat gluten etc. Once they go to regular price I think they won’t be a great food for the money but it was worth it with the deal.

Dont forget to bring all your mfg coupons to Petco just incase! You never know what is gonna be on clearance. It looks like coupons.com has another $1/6 Iams coupon up (it was up for a couple weeks then it was down last week) I got a great deal at Petco on the 5.5oz Iams cans, they had the Turkey and Giblets and Lamb and Rice varieties on clearance, and then I used the $1/off coupon so I would up getting 12 cans I think for 40 some cents a can on two seperate trips. Purina One has coupons on their take the Purina One 28 day challenge site, and I used that on bags that were on clearance. I also printed coupons from Halo’s website for 50cents off one can, and I used that on the shredded cans that were on clearance.

That is exactly what I was searching to find out, but I don’t believe that is the case. It looks to me as though they are no longer going to carry any of their lower end products. They seem to have most of their reset done at this point. It looks like they got rid of all the friskies and meow mix dry food, also cat chow and really cut down on the Purina one I think theyre only offering 2 varieties of ONE now and they reduced their Iams section. Maybe they do this every year, cause they were liquidating some of the Wellness pouches (these were all sold out by the time I got there and not even at a great discount) all the canned solid gold, they were getting rid of the Halo Shredded (I bought some, cats hate it so I understand why) also the Canidae lifestages cans the regular green, and purple indoor ones they were clearing out as well as the jumbo bag of the green Canidae Lifestages dry cat food, but they are keeping different sizes and varieties of these brands so I am not exactly sure. It definitely looks like it varies from store to store as far as when they start doing the sale cause at my store the dog stuff has been long done. So to answer your question….I have no clue….lol 🙂

I picked up some of the meow mix little cups from Target the other day, because I had a $1.50/6 coupon which made them half price, or 25 cents each. I am keeping 2 of them as a junk food fix for my cats (the tuna and shrimp and salmon crab ones are mostly tuna no wheat gluten or food starch or rice) and the others go in my donation box. I noticed the Solid Gold cans do have rice in them so I will keep one just incase and donate the other 3. I am still avoiding feeding anything with rice in it but its pretty far down in the ingredient list so I think its ok for me to keep on hand as a back up.

Here it is! At my local store they started closing out the dog stuff months ago, and then the cat stuff has been more recent. I had my eye on a 17lb bag of Canidae that I was going to donate if the price got low enough, last I checked it was 21.99 and I had a $4 coupon from their calendar I got , well last I went there it was marked down to $9.99 but I missed it, someone had already snagged that last bag, but it would have been a phenomenal deal at 5.99.
It was at Petco that I got some great deals a week ago or so… a 3.5lb bag of Purina One for $1.98, and cans of Iams at 40 cents a can or so, but it seemed like the clearance stuff went pretty quickly and I never got deals like this lady did.

Thanks guys, for some reason I don’t think I got mine, or I cant find it anyway and with gmail usually I can just use the search feature and find anything buried really easily. 🙁

Here is a link to PetSmarts store coupon for $5 off natural or specialty dry pet foods. If you don’t happen to need anything at the moment, they do have 4lb bags of Authority on sale for $5.99 so after the store coupon it comes to 99 cents which makes for a nice donation item. Personally, I am planning to stack this coupon with my wellness coupon if I can ever find it.

Also, hopefully it isn’t too late, but it looks like Petco is having a nationwide major reset so I have been finding tons of things on major clearance, but I think it is at the end of the line. I bought the last 4 cans of Solid Gold cat food, the 5.5oz blue can one I think its Turkey, Chicken, and Whitefish pate, and they were 48cents each.
