Thanks, I may try the vinegar. She has no raw areas, just has a bit of brown discharge. I was wondering if there was anything I could use to help her feel a little more comfortable while we’re working on the food angle. Bought an assortment of canned foods for her, so far she’s not thrilled with any of them. All grain free and no soy, etc. Any other suggestions? Stay away from anything special?

Careful with the Friskies special diet, I believe it’s for “urinary health”. It will make the urine more acidic, which helps with certain crystal problems. But if the urine’s already on the acidic side, it could make him too acid and give him problems with another type of crystal. Should be ok as long as you mix brands and don’t give him too many special diet flavors in a row.

stopped on the way home from work and bought some grain free canned and dry food, for allergy prone cats. Hope to find one or 2 she really likes and will stick with that for a while. Maybe things will improve. Thanks for the advice.

ok, thanks guys. Maybe I need to start limiting her food and see if I can see any improvement /worsening on certain brands/flavors.
Is tea tree oil good for anything? Or should I just bring it back to the store?

I did not know that! Maybe it’s ok for dog ears? I did consider an allergy but it’s just one ear so didn’t think she would have an allergic reaction on only her right side. She eats a variety of canned foods, different brands and flavors.

Here’s my 2 cents on the vaccination issue. I’ve had a lot of cats, right now I’m down to just 5. Three 12 year old siblings, a 14 year old and my old guy is 18. When I get a new cat I get to the vet asap and the cat gets an exam and any worming, etc needed. He gets a series of core vaccines, then, since my guys are indoor only, get boosters every 3 years or so. Latest info I’ve read is that the protection seems to be lasting about 3 years. I don’t think it’s necessary to do it every year, plus the more vacc, the more chance of a vacc. related sarcoma. You can also get the cat’s blood tested to check the titer. If it’s still high no need for a booster. Good luck, hope you catch the little guy! He’d be lucky to have you!

    Shasta,
Definitely agree with crazy4cats. Maddy needs bloodwork. I’ve had a lot of cats and have experience with all three of the conditions she mentioned. Not the outcome we want but all treatable/manageable and the sooner you find out the better. Wishing you good luck.

I agree with the other comments, cats can be so hard to please, can’t they? I also have a female, Julie, who has always seemed underweight, scrawny, to me but checks out completely healthy every vet visit. She’s 14 years old now. I feed her separately from my other 4 to allow her to eat as much as she wants without interference. Nothing you can do but keep trying flavors and textures.Mine range in age from 12 to 18 years and do well on Chick soup and Merrick brands. I swap back and forth otherwise they seem to get bored. They also like a bit of mashed pumpkin or winter squash and that’s good fiber for the hairball problem. Just a spoonful a couple of times a week. Finally, for the kitties that don’t like canned food, I’d suggest one of the water fountains. My guys love theirs, it’s ceramic and keeps the water nice and cool and they love the movement. I know they drink a lot more than they ever did before. They were a little wary of it at first but it only took a couple of days for them to get used to it.
