How much are they regular price, and how big are the cans?

I figure if it’s not a normal part of their diet, if they don’t eat it, they don’t it. But if I have a whole cabinet full (or several bags), you’re going to eat it whether you like it or not LOL Unless it’s obviously making them sick or something. Then I wouldn’t. Lol

He is set up to get fish like once a week, or something. I think every 8 days? I dunno lol I don’t want to do much more than that though, especially since his recent food strike.

My guys like the One Beyond. It’s high calorie too, which I like for Haley.

He may not like the pork. It’s a pretty bland meat (to me, anyways lol). You could always do what I did to Alec and tell him to get over it LOL Thats funny though. I guess the boy knows what he wants (and doesn’t want lol) :p

My guys are on NS Super Performance right now. They’re loving it, and I didn’t adjust the feeding for the higher calories, so they are starting to look like giant fury sausages LOL Guess I’ll cut back some :p I wanted to see how Haley was going to do on a food that had different grains than the One Beyond, since she also did good on that, but does terrible on corn based foods (One not-so-Smartblend). Her fun has gained noticeable shine since going from Pet Botanics to Super Performance, which is surprising, since the Pet Botanics is grain free, which she tends to do better on, despite the carb source. So far, I’m really happy with my experience of NS. ๐Ÿ™‚

I thought about putting some on him, but I don’t want it all over my hands LOL I’ll give hi. Some in his food, and see how it helps, though.

I haven’t tried the new Wellness yet. I think they’re all fish though, aren’t they? Alec loves Sheba, so I don’t think you’ll have any issues with it ๐Ÿ˜‰

Btw, he did not finish his food the other night. He did pick at it, but in the end, Bentley got it in the morning lol By last night, he was so hungry he was trying to get in the garbage can -_- Maybe the little retard should have eaten his food. Just sayin’! So I gave him like 1/3 can of today’s Friskies, so that he had a little snack, and didn’t me me up all night. Guess who decided to eat his food? Oh yeah. The cat. LOL Remember kitty: mommys always win >=D

So I went ahead and bought a case of the turkey and bacon 95% By Nature, as well as that Ketconazole or whatever shampoo and two one cent Etta Says chews for $30 even. At a half can or less a day, that’ll last him a while, and at three baths a week, that shampoo will be gone in no time lol

He came to us with fleas and fully furred, so I don’t really think that’s the problem. Not the whole problem, anyways. I know they aren’t helping anything, but the only thing that works to kill them is Trifexis, and we’re having trouble affording even feeding ourselves, much less pay $300 a year for flea medication! I’m gunna see if I can get her to do it my way, and buy an egg inhibitor flea med, and heart worm meds separately. To do this for my dogs and cat is $80 a year, vs $600+ for Trifexis.

I’m thinking of trying By Nature, since PetFlow has it on sale and free shipping. What do you guys think?

If I order from PetFlow, would you guys recommend any of these shampoos?

I got my wellness coupons a few days ago.

Ooh, I’ll have to swing by PetCo tomorrow and see if I can find anything!

Looks interesting! I like the short ingredient list. Could use the two land-critter gravy grain free ones every now and then. The Pate non-fish one ended up having fish, so oh well. This isn’t too high on my list anyways as he would need 4 cans a day. But if the price is ever right, I wouldn’t mind it.

Also an update: I fed him Sheba the last couple days so that I could give him small meals and he could still get the amount of calories he needed. I started back on his normal routine today, and gave him Wellness, and he ate about a 1/3 of his breakfast and then left it, and Bentley ate the rest of it. This is after he didn’t eat all day yesterday, except a couple bites in the evening of the food (Sheba) I put out in the morning, but I accidentally put a bunch of coconut oil in there, so he didn’t really want it. Being the mean mommy I am, I gave him the “too bad, you eat what I give you” treatment lol I gave him the second can of Wellness tonight for dinner, and he’s been picking at it (and also trying to bury it) for a good hour. Not sure if he finally finished it off or not yet, but he did sit and eat for a while not too long ago. The lights off and I don’t feel like getting up out of bed to go see lol So anyways, he’s being a picky butt. Too bad for him, mommy don’t play that game LOL He does appear to be back to pooping, though, and is back to his crazy antics. I went into the bathroom with out him (God forbid the humans should pee alone! They might fall in or something!) and he was scratching on the door so hard the bottom was pushing in a good two inches away from the frame LOL Poor unloved kitty XD

Interesting Betsy. Never thought of it that way.

I do plan on trying, yes ๐Ÿ™‚ I just want to give the new diet and shampoo a few weeks to see how they’re helping. Last year we did all these different things at once, including it changing to winter during the beginning of everything, so we never really determined what helped and what didn’t. Since the hot weather just started, we’ll have plenty of time to go slow and see what helps.

I gave him a bath, and let the shampoo sit on him for about 5 minutes. The bottle says 5-10, so I started slow, just to see how he’d react to it. He seemed fine with it, plus it killed the fleas the Advantix 2 failed to killed, so that’s a plus LOL I need to get the yard and house treated with the DE I bought a couple weeks ago, as well…

Bentley seems to like everything, so he should like it ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m going to get him going on the THK for a couple weeks before changing him again, just to let his tummy settle in to a new food. That’ll also give me time to let Walmart figure out how to function. :p

Eh, my data plan restarted, but doing in-depth research on my phone is irritating lol I did see the video, though, and like how easy it is to use. I’ll get it here soon after I see his the shampoo helps him. I don’t want to start a bunch of things at once because I want to know if something’s working or not. Diet change and super-shampoo is enough right now lol

I’m trying to do minimal stuff on my phone since it’s annoying, but I’ll be looking at everything once I’m on the computer. I did mean to look at the iodine stuff while I was there, but forgot lol

A case is only 12 cans, surely that can’t be too complicated. Then again, we are talking about Walmart, the king of make-your-customers-miserable, which is why I avoid it as much as possible. I’ll let you know what they say next time I venture in.

Yeah, I saw that. We’ll see what it does. I just wanted something for immediate use while I searched around for something suggested here, and saw what was available locally. I’ll make mom pay for whatever I order lol

I wonder if I could get them to order me a case and hold it? I could do site to store, but they aren’t on the website, so that won’t work lol

Ok, guys! I just got back from the dreaded Walmart lol I went in for Sulfedene Medicated Shampoo, but they didn’t have any. So I got my second choice, VetArmor Itch and Allergy medicated shampoo. It was my second choice because it was more expensive and I couldn’t find much about it. I also went a head and got two cans of Pure Balance 95% Beef and Chicken. I wanted one of each, but the chicken was gone lol I also explained to mom my thoughts about a thyroid issue and the blood tests needed for that, and that he need to get back on his Trifexis, or some other good flea med (because let’s face it Advantix 2 sucks….). I’ll give him a bath tonight and see how this stuff works.

Sorry about the glare in the second picture. The bathroom has overhead lights lol

As for food, I’ve decided to ditch kibble right now (Pure Balance Salmon lol), and stick with just THK. Right now I have Force open, so I’ll use that. At a half cup a day, dry, the three grain free sample boxes won’t last long. I don’t think I’ll use the grain inclusive one (oatmeal). I’ll use it for the other dogs. They don’t care, they just like to eat :p

I’ll look into those shampoos, and bother mom about getting him a vet appointment.

Forgot to add, I’d like to get him on Pure Balance 95% canned, but in order to do that, I have to sell mom on the idea, and make room by getting rid of the THK taking up space in the cabinet lol

No, I have Sams Club, not Costco. Too far in the wrong direction lol I could have my grandma go for me, though…. She gets up that way, and has a Costco membership. Do you happen to know the feeding guidelines on those?

I’ve not heard of Northwest Naturals, so I think it’s safe to say we don’t have it here lol

Thanks guys! I’ll look into prices for canned foods (could do coupons or whatever depending on the brand), and commercial raw. What other brands of commercial raw have you guys seen in chain stores other than Natures Variety, and what did they cost? I’ll also add those links to my list of things to read.

For his shampoo, we have and use several. It’s just sort of whatever we pick up when manage to drag him into the tub (he really hates baths lol). We have Grreat Choice Oatmeal Shampoo, a couple sample packets of Beyers stuff (shampoo and conditioner– some sort of lipids and oils thing), and some Neosporin human body wash, which helps the most, but obviously isn’t a dog shampoo, so we don’t use it often.

Would a medicated shampoo need to come from the vet? Is there anything I can make at home to help him? I’ve started using coconut oil for Alec, and it’s helped clear his tummy out. I could butter up Bentley with a homemade coconut oil shampoo or something lol

And yes, I’ve been using honey. But just like everything else, it helped for a few weeks, and now it does nothing. He likes it though.

Oh, and I have THK trial things, too. They are kind of low protein, though, so that would leave me to believe they may be higher in carbs? (Which is why I’m not sure if I want to a premix or dehydrated complete meal).

That is an interesting thought, Betsy. I did some googling, and he has many of the symptoms of Hypothyroidism. I will continue to push mom to make him an appointment, and we’ll have that checked as well.

Thanks Sandy, I’ll look into it more when I get on the computer ๐Ÿ™‚

I don’t know if I could do canned or not. “Good” canned food isn’t a popular thing around here. It’s pretty much Wellness or Natures Variety, or Mr. Pretend Good Blue Buffalo, as far as that goes. Everything else is like Pro Plan and Science Diet. Though Walmart does have Pure Balance…. And I can look online, and see of I can find anything.

And about the premixes, I think doing no carbs (or as little as possible) is best. This dog smells like a rag used to clean up milk that was left in the sun for a week @.@ So if I did canned, it’s have to be like the 95% ones.

I’ve been looking around at home made and raw sites. Kind of hard on my phone, but I’m getting ideas ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ll look into that site, as well.

Does anyone have any links to good prices supplements?

He gets very little in the way of actual dog treats. He usually gets a bit of people food for treats. I yell at mom for giving him jelly beans quite often… Other than those, he gets veggies and meat scraps. Right now, his treats are Wellness Toy Breed cranberry something-or-anothers. They were on clearance lol Oh, and he steals the cats food if he leaves it and it’s not up high. Alec gets mostly Wellness Grain Free.

The only commercial raw diets locally available are Bill Jac (not sure how good that is) and Natures Variety, which is not cost effective at all (I’ve already looked into that.). There may be other brands that I’ve over looked, though.

What if we were to feed like, half raw, half Natures Variety Instinct kibble? That has freeze dried raw coating, and all sorts of good stuff in it. Would supplements be needed then? (Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to avoid supplements, I just know they can be costly, so if I can find a way to balance his diet as cheaply as possible, I’d like to take that route).

Hey guys! Good news: we have poops! Found some this morning. It wasn’t a lot, but it was some, which is better than nothing ๐Ÿ™‚ he only ate like 6 oz of food yesterday, anyways, so I wouldn’t expect him to make much poop with that as it is lol I didn’t see anything not-poop in there, but I will continue to give him a little coconut oil with each meal since that’s helping. I also gave him a little raw honey this morning, since that an anti-inflammatory, and I’m sure his tummy is not too happy with all this lol

He is feeling much better today, though, and him and Bentley were tearing through the house like a bunch of lunatics this morning before I left lol He’s getting more vocal again, as well.

Oh, and here’s how much he likes coconut oil: yesterday I was cleaning fish tanks and making his food at the same time while the bucket filled up in the sink. The bucket started to overflow after I got some oil in his bowl and the can of food open, so I left it to go turn the water off and haul the thing into my room to dump into the tank. I hear clinking and noises in the kitchen while I’m filling the tank, and figured he was getting into the can of food. I bring the bucket back in to refill, and what’s he doing? Licking the coconut oil out of his bowl! Never mind the open can of food, let’s go for this liquid plant stuff! LOL Good thing I closed the jar up or he probably would have gone for that as well :p

Well, he must not be feeling too bad now. I’m home and he’s out of the cage, and running around the house like a maniac lol He’s begging for food, but I’m not sure if I should give him any though. His blockage seems to be be on the move, as he keeps going in the litter box and just scratching and scratching. Granted, this was before I let him out , so he could have just been doing it because he had nothing better to do, but I’m not sure. No poops, but lots of pee. I have him a taste of coconut oil, and boy did he like it! He’s acting like he’s starving, which I’m sure he is. Maybe I will feed him a couple more “meals” tonight…. He’s feeling loads better, though, so at this point, I won’t be calling the vet in the morning unless he starts doing bad again. (Unless you guys think I should?)

Hey guys. He’s doing much better today. He was his usual self this morning , just a little less feisty. I called the vet, told them how he was, and they said they didn’t need to see him, but to watch him, and feed him in very small amounts. I mixed a sugar spoon full of olive oil into his days worth of food (just one can– left over from yesterday’s rations), and he’s eaten two or three times for me (I’m not sure if he ate one of the meals, or if Bentley did). I went ahead with the olive oil because I looked around online and a lot of people say it’s good for passing hair balls. I’m at work now, but I did buy a small thing of coconut oil to try him on.

I had my mom call the neighbor (moms out of town) to go over and check on him, and she said that he’s sleepy looking, but still alert to sounds. I also had her check his gums, and she said they were kind of pinkish, but she’s going to stay with him until get home.

I also left him a dish of water, and he drank it all since I left him about 4.5 hours. Considering this cat doesn’t drink water, you know he must not be feeling good, poor guy. If he’s still like this in the morning, I’ll call the vet and see what have to say.

So all in all, he’s better than he was last night, but still not feeling well.

Also, I have some fish oil pills, but it doesn’t say anything about how much is in them. Just says, for humans, one pill three times a day. I give Haley (65 lb) one a day, and Dweezle (130 lb) two a day. So maybe one every few days for him?

After his visit to the litter box, he’s perked up much more. I threw a toy in with him and he’s been chasing the thing almost non-stop. He went in the litter box again not too long ago, but I’m in bed and don’t feel like getting up to investigate lol He’s getting more active, and I suspect it’s only a matter of time before he starts crying that he’s locked up lol Do you guys think I could give him a little olive or vegetable oil in his food a few times a week to keep something like this from happening again (I also have fish oil *pills* I give to the dogs)? I really do feel like it’s hair stuck in there. You should see how obsessively he grooms himself…. Lol He’s been pretty bad with hair balls lately too. He’s puked up a couple of them, and he’s been hacking and coughing away for a few days trying to get one out (which I haven’t found. I bet I know where it is…. <.< …..)

Labs are naughty! LOL When we adopted moms lab, she was *terrible*! Pretty much all she had down was peeing out side, only because she knew she couldn’t get away with doing it inside LOL She was much better after she hit 5 or 6. Took a few years for her to figure it out :p Haley is a lab and golden retriever mix, and she is litterally the perfect dog. Only ate one shoe, and trained so easily. Someday I’ll have a pure bred golden. They are such sweet dogs!

So I checked the litter box, and we have poops! That doesn’t mean much though because the X-rays showed the blockage at the end of his stomach, and poop behind it. It does mean that everything is moving along, though, and we may not have to do anything tomorrow. Hopefully, since he’s perked up and moving around now, we won’t have anymore trips to the vet anytime soon.

So Alec did something in his litter box. Not sure what. At least peed, though. He’s so OCD about scratching in there that I can tell if he pooped or not without going in. He had to go in there, do his thing, scratch some, go out, turn around and go back in, and scratch some more for a good two minutes. And a lot of that isn’t even scratching in the litter. He has to scratch the inside of the cover, and the floor outside, too. LOL But yeah, I’m not sure if he pooped or not right now. I’m gunna wait till the pee dries some before digging around in there…

This cat is something else lol I left the kitchen to go to the bathroom and take Bentley out, and I came back in to see him moved to the front corner of the cage all bright eyed and curious, wondering why I left him alone (like I said, separation anxiety cat), so I came over and sat down next to the cage, and scratched his butt through the bars. He promptly gave me the cold shoulder, but didn’t move away. So he’s mad enough at me that he won’t look at me, but not mad enough to not accept butt scratches. Lol

    And thanks guys ๐Ÿ™‚

We’re just going to see if he passes it on his own for right now. If it’s not moved soon, then we’ll probably have surgically remove it. Good god I hope that’s not the case! I can’t afford that :/

They also said he has a lot of air in his intestines, which looking at how it’s just a bunch of little bubbles, I think it from his hiccups, and he’ll probably be farty tonight.

I asked if I should give him a little Vaseline or something to help it pass, but she was concerned that he could throw up again and then inhale some of it, and cause even more problems than what he’s got now. Depending on how he looks in the morning I may get some hair ball stuff from the regular vet when we go, if he thinks it’ll be ok.

Every now and then he’ll still kind of dry heave, like he’s trying to get whatever’s stuck in there moving. I don’t know of that’s a good thing or not. I’m used to the dogs just throwing up and moving along like nothing ever happened o.o’

Well I had a fun day today. And by fun I mean terrible, for both my mental and financial well being. -_-

Left for class like normal this morning, everything was good, blah blah blah. Got home, cat was in his usual spot on the couch. Went over, said hi, took Bentley out to go potty, and decided to take Haley for a walk. I was gone for like 30 minutes, came home, kitty-kitty was waiting in the window (where he’s not supposed to be unless the blinds are up, I might add). He came over to me, said hi and hung out for a few minutes, checked out the terrifying giant monster (yeah, right lol) that is Haley, decided it was best if he just left the living room, got half way to his cat tree, made a really nasty sound, and puked all over the place.

    Like. Everywhere.

More than any cat should ever puke.

So I kick Haley out to the yard and lock Bentley up, and clean the mess up, and I look over at Alec, and he just looks terrible. Laying spread out on his side, looking litterally like some sort of road kill, kind of hic-upping, or something like that.

I figured maybe something was stuck i his throat, so I’m trying all kinds of things to get him to try and throw up again or cough it out, or something. At the same time I’m calling my vet. Which, go figure, it’s 5:04. They closed at 5. I call our secondary vet, and they’re closing in 5 minutes by the time I get their number. So they told me to call the emergency vet. By the time I get to the emergency vet, it’s been 45 minutes since he threw up.

They took him back right away and gave him an exam, and what not, while the lady at the desk took all my info and whatever medical history I could give them.

First they came in with a huge long list of crap. Xrays, tests, shots. Like $600 worth! I was like, that ain’t happening. I know this game! Not that i said that or anything. I was on the verge of tears since I realized something was wrong with him lol Even still, I didn’t have that much money to name, so clearly that wouldn’t work anyways.

But, we finally settled on xrays, a few shots (antibiotics, subq fluids, anti nausea) and staying over night on an IV. We were worried that he could have fluid in his lungs, or something lodged in his throat, since his breathing was terrible, and his gums were white. X-rays showed neither.

Turns out, he’s got something (she couldn’t even tell what– she sent it off to be looked at) lodged right at the end of his stomach. It was the same color as the bones were, and pretty big. I can’t think of anything that he could’ve gotten that would match up with that. So that changed our plan again. For the cheaper at this point, thankfully.

She didn’t want to give him any anti nausea medicine because she didn’t want to mask any symptoms of him trying to rid of whatever’s stuck in there. Makes sence. And she didn’t think he needed to stay overnight, either. So she gave him some fluids, told me to keep him confinded, and said no food or water tonight, and go to the regular vet in the morning for a follow up if he got worse and didn’t get any better.

Dished out $360 and went home, and got him set up in Haley and Dweezles cage (it’s huge) with a towel, bed and litter box, and there he’ll stay till morning I guess.

He’s looking better as the fluids absorb. He can support his weight now and isn’t all limp anymore. His breathing has slowed, but still looks a little labored. And he’s responding to my touch, and leaning in for cheek scratches. When he purrs is real gurgley and wet sounding, but he’s looking much better. His front half looks like a little fury sausage :p He doesn’t look sick any more, just more like sleepy-drugged kitty (he’s not drugged, though), but he’s alert to sounds, which I know is really good.

So yeah. That was our fun adventure for the day. I think it was worse for me than it was for him, though. I’m such a baby when it comes to animals being sick or injured. I was like crying all the way to vet, all the while making fun of myself in the back of head for being such a retard *rolls eyes* :p

    Thanks Bobby dog!

I’ve been researching about using straight ivermectin. I like the sounds of how cheap it is. My vet is extremely traditional, though, and he wouldn’t offer any help should I need it. He probably wouldn’t even know how to dose just ivermectin (or if he did he wouldn’t say). But he’s such a good vet! I don’t want to find another one…. Lol I’ll ask him when Haley is done with her Trifexis what he thinks works best as far as commercial meds go, and what he knows about ivermectin dosing. There’s no way that I can afford to continue using Trifexis with new bills coming in.

So looking at HeartGuard vs ValuHeart vs NuHeart, I must have been looking at the wrong size for HeartGuard. If I get anything off this website, it’ll be NuHeart, but I’d still like a slightly higher dose than HeartGuard and NuHeart offer, if I can find any at a good price…

    HeartGuard 51-100 lb, 12ct: 272 mcg per pill, $77.20
    NuHeart 51-100 lb, 12ct: 272 mcg per pill, $43.99
    ValuHeart 45-88 lb, 12ct: 240 mcg per pill, $37.94.

I’m liking the looks of that site! I found some Valuheart heartworm meds on there and I love the price and dose of ivermectin it gives. It’s cheaper than HeartGuard and you get a higher dose. Living in Florida, and Haley (and Dweezle) being an outdoor dog (not by my choice, btw), I’m not even gunna get near HeartGuard. A lot of people are saying it doesn’t work, and I saw one website that said it’s only 95% effective. What the crap is that?? If I did that for Haley, it’d be $70 for ValuHeart and Little City Dogs for a year vs $300+ for Trifexis for a year, plus I wouldn’t be worrying about her having a reaction to the Trifexis (which so far she hasn’t, but they aren’t looking too good with the trouble they’ve been causing to people’s pets). That’s a lot of money I could be spending on dog food, car payments, bills…. I really like the sounds of that…. I’m still going to look around and see what else I find, but that’s looking pretty good right now. I’d like as high a dose of ivermectin as possible for my budget. I do know it’s pretty cheap, though, and all you’re paying for for most meds is whatever company’s name is slapped on it, so I should be able to find a good generic with a little digging.

An update on the Little City Dogs: The cat, Alec, ate the pill right from his food. I tried to break it open to sprinkle the insides over his food, but I had a headache and didn’t want to deal with it, so I just tossed the pill on top of his food. He avoided it for a while, but slipped up and accidentally got it (he’s an enthusiastic eater, and likes to play the eat-as-much-as-you-can-in-one-bite game lol). Must have tasted ok, because after the initial look of “what just went in my mouth??”, he dug back into his food like it was nothing. They’re supposed to be chicken and beef flavored, depending on which ones you get. Dweezle ate his right out of his food, as well. Being 130 pounds, he’d be hard pressed to actually dig through his food to pick out stuff he doesn’t like anyways lol

Hi there! I’m extremely happy with Wellness Complete Health. They are grain free, very low carb (posted a picture a few pages back of an email they sent me stating the carb percentages of each recipe I asked for– the ones with out fish, in their entire brand), and seem to be lower fat that most of the premium brands (most premium brands are very high fat to keep costs down for them selves, but they still charge an arm and a leg, such as EVO). With coupons, I can get it as cheap as Friskies, or sometimes even cheaper. We don’t have a lot of feed stores around here, so that’s about all I can recommend. Lol Some Walmarts have decent foods, too. Just check their website, and if you find something you like, click “find in a store near me”.

Right?? I was super happy to see that. They were also an additional $5 off from some sale they are having on the large bags and cases. They all three expire with in two months. So hopefully I can use it all before then. If not, I know a few people who can ๐Ÿ™‚

They aren’t bad. They all have fish though, and are high in carbs. Ok for a treat, but nothing I’d used on a regular basis. Good luck getting them through customs!

I’m telling you, it’s those Blue Buffalo treats! He’s crazy for them. If I want him to come and he’s not coming when called, I just shake the bag and he comes running XD

Yes it was! This trip actually should have been about $12 less, because the bags were each an additional 20% off due to nearing expiration dates, but the girl forgot to do that after the first bag. Oh well, after the trouble I caused the other day, I’ll let it go this time lol I figured the coupons made it come out even for the other two bags. I won’t go back and bother them lol
