Yeah I figured I’d start with the same amount in oz. and increase the amount if there’s no digestive issues (diarrhea, loose stool). I would like for her to gain weight but my main concern is improving her skin and coat that has suffered due to the damage it had received this summer, it’s the main reason why I’ve focused more on starting her on raw. I’ll stick to the main proteins of beef, chicken, turkey, and pork and add others once in awhile. She hasn’t had any digestive issues so far so that’s good. Thanks for all your help.

Wow, thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I know variety is best, just wondered what you used and if your dogs like a certain protein or did better on one more than the other. Don’t think I saw you mention Pheasant, Bison or Buffalo, do you not like feed them those? Mila is smaller than your dogs (50 lbs and less active since her spay surgery), more lean and she has long legs but could use some more weight not too much though. So if I used your recipes as a frame of reference I could make 4 to 5 servings, would it still be fresh the 2nd and 3rd day or do I just make a seperate portion each day? I do like the ingredients in the Urban Wolf premix more than the others but don’t think I can find that locally, maybe I’ll look into See Spot Liver Longer that you mentioned. Thanks again, I appreciate it!!

HDM – in your recipes when you feed green tripe, do you feed Hare Today with spleen or do you purchase it from somewhere else? Instead of feeding beef do you sometimes rotate in venison, bison, or buffalo? And when you feed poultry do you sometime rotate in duck, pheasant, or quail? Does chicken and turkey have more nutrients than the others I listed? I’m very new to feeding raw (just started this past week with pre-made NV and now Primal) but would like to feed one premade for one meal and homemade raw for the other meal. Mila is loving it so far, like I knew she would. 🙂 The amount you feed in your recipes is for your 3, I would be feeding my one 1/3 of that, right? Is Urban Wolf pre-mix what you recommend over HK, GL, Sojos etc.? When you feed eggs, that’s the whole egg correct? Are your dogs active, do you feed based on that? Mila is about normal in activity, but plan to do more long walks/runs with her and bring her to the dog park again this week after she has her staples taken out tomorrow. Sorry for all the questions, I’m sure I’ll have a lot more. lol I just want to be proactive and have knowledge of what I’m doing before I start.

The Primal website also shows in a video that u can thaw the portion by putting the bag in a big bowl filled with cool water for about 30 mins, so I might try that. It’ll be her first one so she’ll be a little hesitant at first. I hope she enjoys it. 🙂 I love the videos of Gertie eating her meaty bones, maybe I’ll post a pic. Thanks for your help.

I do plan on feeding them intermittently, but don’t want it to be unbalanced. Should I add some of her food (canned and/or kibble) or HK Embark to make it a meal? I’ve had it thawing over night but its still partially frozen, can I feed it like that or should I feed it tomorrow?

I’m going to be feeding Mila her first RMB (chicken back) tomorrow. Exciting!! Question, how much of her food should I feed her, is the chicken back 20% of her daily intake? Thanks.

I got the Sentry Naturals topical for her today. Smells pretty strong but I like it. I also got a waterless shampoo by Vets Best to use for now until her staples are out. I also left the sliced lemon in a pot over night and tried that this morning not sure if it did anything or not. I’ve been adding ACV to her water anyway so I’ll continue doing that. I have treated the home and will continue to I also got a spray for the home and her bedding. I saw at the pet store an item that is added to the water. It contains garlic, vinegar, water and salt. Is salt ok for her?

The spray I use from Pet Naturals has the same ingredients and hasn’t worked. That why I tried Frontline. Seems to be worse this summer.

I’ve been using a spray with that same ingredients except the castor oil so I just wasn’t sure about it. I’ll try the topical one.

I saw the Sentry natural spray at Petco but was unsure about the castor oil. It that safe for a dog’s skin?

That had some great tips, thanks. I’ve been using ACV maybe I just need to use it differently. Thanks everybody!

Yeah, I just emailed them. I finally found Greek Gods yogurt there the other day and get coconut oil from there and where I also got the quercetin from there too. They also sell pet products.

Yes I do that sometimes and use povidone iodine especially if she’s been at the dog park but i can’t rinse her down for a week or two she just got spayed on Tuesday. I’ll look into a local supply, thanks!

Would you recommend using bee pollen over raw honey?

Yes, I’ve bought those treats at Walmart and the same yellow bile and stopped giving her them ASAP.

I knew you would be able to help me with this. 🙂 Thanks so much, I’ll look into the brands you suggested. The quercetin with bromelain that I use is human grade and includes c-complex so I probably shouldn’t give bee pollen with those included also, right?

Yeah I figured that, I’ve fed Tripett and have seen and smelled it before. Just thought I’d ask.

I saw beef honeycomb tripe at Walmart, does anyone feed this? I also saw the Crown Prince sardines in a pouch that was mentioned, so yay!

Awesome, thanks! If I use sardines as a topper can I freeze the leftovers? Would I still need to supplement with krill if she has sardines with her meal? Mila’s only had primal freeze dried turkey and sardines. Does sardines go well with other proteins other than turkey?

What kind of sardines would you suggest? (certain brand) The sardines in water would be best, right?

How long do the raw marrow bones stay fresh in the freezer once the bag has been opened? I’m going to feed Mila’s first raw bone tomorrow! 🙂

When I first brought home Mila, the pet store suggested I buy Canidae Single Grain (a 5 star brand on DFA) but once I transitioned her to grain-free she didn’t want the Canidae anymore and ate around it.

I was using Earthborn with Mila for awhile and she enjoyed it until she got sick of it, but I think if you rotate different protein sources you should be fine.

Hi again, thanks for all the help! Do you use both coconut oil and fish oil or alternate the 2? Do you use krill oil? I had read and watched a video of Dr Becker educating about krill oil.

I have used coconut oil in the past and loved it but haven’t picked some up in awhile but do sprinkle some of the coconut chips in her food sometimes and also add yogurt. The freeze-dried raw I give her does have it. Where do u purchase the skinless meaty bones from? I was thinking of starting her off slowly anyway with the smaller marrow bone. I don’t mind adding more fat to her diet, she’s lean and muscular and has lost a few lbs from our nice long evening walks, so she could use it. A rewarding treat. 🙂

Great videos of Gertie!! 🙂 I’m thinking of beginning Mila on raw meaty/ recreational bones and I’m excited to see the health benefits they will give her. I have read and seen videos on the Primal website regarding the feeding of these bones but would like to ask more info if I could. Recreational bones are to fed 1-2 a week, how often should meaty bones be fed? How long should they be stored in the freezer, especially after the bag has been opened? I know Mila can eat the turkey necks or chicken backs that medium-large size dogs can eat but should I start her off on the chicken necks? Because she’s not used to having fatty food, will the fat have a negative effect on her stomach or is it good fat and won’t interfere? Do you feed the Primal bones or should I look at other companies as well? Which do you suggest? Thanks so much, I look forward to your reply! (:
