MemberHe is on a bland diet right now. I was asking for future reference because i am here on this forum, and i was wondering how other people cook their meat.
I was wondering if there was a healthier way other people might do it. MayBe il put it on a grill in the oven so the fat drips off.
One vet told me not to boil his chicken , she said that she was worrried he wasnāt getting enough fat. She said coconut oil is a good source for healthy fat and thats one of things she recommends for her clients.
I dont know if he is at risk for pancreatitis. After recent events i am going to talk to his favorite vet about it. She is very nice and he just loves her. My dog will not eat kibble EVER. I want him having only fresh healthy food that is alive and full of good organic energy. .April 15, 2017 at 4:13 pm in reply to: Dog extremly ill after raw beef heart #98367 Report Abuse Edit Post VisibilityJasmine T
MemberHi, thank you all so much, he is doing MUCH better. Id say hes back to normal, has his appetite back, wants to walk. His poop is better, it looks like thick pudding, with a hint of what might be reddish. (not normal )
I asked the vet if the sample i brought in was blood and she said she didnt know, that there COULD be blood in it.
It really just looked like pink water. I thought maybe it was part of the undigested heart coloring the water. She said it was just water.
Susan, do you think it was BLOOD? Your dog had the same problem? I was really hoping it was NOT blood.
Well he is eating the metronidazole, boiled chicken, and VERY smooshy overcooked brown rice. And the cottage cheese. He is doing so much better. I never got the xray done, i tried to feed him again after we loaded in the car to leave and he ATE. So i got really exited and canceled the appt. They did say that if he gets better and starts eating, that we probably didnt need to have the xray. We made the appt just in case.
Im hoping this is true, that hes ok now.
So relieved.April 14, 2017 at 2:01 pm in reply to: Dog extremly ill after raw beef heart #98281 Report Abuse Edit Post VisibilityJasmine T

MemberIm going to be watching his poop.
The heart i fed him was NOT from a trusted source ,not grass fed or anything. I did not realize it was so undercooked. And i am not really sure how to transition him properly .
I think due to his age and my lack of experience , i may stick to homecooked.April 14, 2017 at 1:47 pm in reply to: Dog extremly ill after raw beef heart #98278 Report Abuse Edit Post VisibilityJasmine T
MemberI live in the bay area. The paws out here is really cool. Spca in sf sometimes helps if u tell them u r homeless. I wont let him stay sick and starve .
He is old , maybe i will stick to homemade.
He just ate half his bowl of rice and cottage cheese.April 14, 2017 at 1:41 pm in reply to: Dog extremly ill after raw beef heart #98276 Report Abuse Edit Post VisibilityJasmine T

MemberIm not looking for medical advice from you. I am just trying to vent a little so i dont go insane.
I WANT to do both , xray and blood work. Its not like i have the money but im telling myself i cant afford it. I really just dont have it. This was what i had saved for him till i found another job.
Im not going to let him die.
You can count on thatApril 14, 2017 at 12:35 pm in reply to: Dog extremly ill after raw beef heart #98270 Report Abuse Edit Post VisibilityJasmine T
MemberI took him to vet, they wanted bloodwork and xrays. I dont like this vet. She told me i was feeding him wrong, dogs are omnivours , he only needs 25 percent protein and 50 percent carbs . I told her i knew it was controversal and she said it wasnt it just is what it is. And she had such an attitude with me there after.Anyway,i wish she was more helpful , in responding to my questions. I decided to take the meds to make him feel better and if nothing changed i .an apt for an xray the next morning.which i have in an hour . I cant afford xray and bloodwork together. I lost my job and this is all i have , il spend every penny but i only have so much. They gave him two shots and some pills.he WONT SWALLOW the pill. I wrapped it in a tiny peice of canned chicken and tossed it in his mouth and held it shut. Over and over he would spit it out when i let go.so i waited thinking i could wait him out. I did this and he just looked at me when i let him go. I got suspicious and made like i was leaving , i came back twice and he hadnt spit it out . Then i found it later. He litetally waited for me to leave leave to spit it out.the pill was metronidazole. He got a shot of antibiotic, and a antiemetic.
They couldnt test his stool for parasites because it wasnt a stool,it was pink water. He is drinking water, not as much as id like. He had a half a bowl yesterday.
Im bringing my boyfriend to his appt today so that if we get terrible news , he will be there and will more then likely ask his grandmother to help pay. Shes taken her dogs there for years too ,maybe she can request a payment plan. I dont know. I know an xray isnt the end of it.
Maybe he ate a stick or something or glass or poison. I have no idea. It does make the most sense it was the heart.
I read that heart could be fed as a muscle meat ,that it should not be counted as an organ. I read that if it SECRETES then its an organ meat.
Yes too raw to fast.
My dog is 12 in aug. Lab mix. Im trying to stay calm. I am close to freaking out. If something shows in the xray il have to rob a gas station to get the money , im thinking 5000 emergency sugery . What could be wrong with him???
Im counting the min till our appt. I regreted waiting till today shortly after we got home. I thought about it all day and night. I should of just did it yesterday⦠-
