Higher protein can help develop lean muscle tone when exercised properly. High protein foods also tends to be higher in fat so it’s important if you’re going with a higher protein foods that the pup is exercised daily. Also watch out for things like pea proteins, it’s in a lot of new high protein foods. You want a food that has meat as the protein. So a food that has the first three ingredients as meat then maybe peas as the carb but pea protein specifically should be much further down if it’s in the ingredients. I really like merrick grain free. Their foods are meat based and top out at 38% protein. I also really like natures variety Instinct raw boost and ultimate protein, those foods are also meat based and are around 35-42% protein. Both brands are excellent quality. Some dogs have protein sensitivities so watch out for that as well when you start feeding a high protein food. As far as merrick goes their lamb formula is wonderful. It’s only about 32% protein and lamb is easy to digest so it’s a good alternative to say 38% protein that might be a bit too rich for a dog. Just make sure you pick a puppy food for the next few months. Both companies I mentioned have a puppy formula that’s high in protein.

I don’t think you’ll find one kibble for all of them. However you could make an appointment to see a vet nutritionalist about maybe a homemade diet that’s proper and balanced for everyone. And just take a few hours a weekend and pre make everyone’s food for the week and freeze each serving. I think would be your best bet if you wanted to stop buying the loads of different foods you’re buying now.

Raw is a good way to avoid those ingredients, most commercial raws will be good and if you do it yourself just make sure you’re researching and making it balanced. But I’ve heard of a lot of Germans doing excellent on a raw diet. Natures logic is probably the best quality kibble I mentioned. The rest are rated 3-4 stars here.

I really thought this would be easy when I started looking for a pea free, barley free food but wow I could only find a small hand full. It seems some varieties of victor dog food are free of both, sportmix dog food, and some nutro max formulas are free of both as well. Also some canine caviar varieties don’t have either ingredient. And natures logic doesn’t include those ingredients. There’s probably more but you’ll just have to sniff around and do some research.

I live in Indianapolis. Im also of little means so I don’t have a lot of money to donate to places. Most of the cats are friendly as well and could be adopted out.

And I’m aware she needs helps but she’s been rescuing animals her whole life and no one unfortunelty sees anything wrong with it as I come from a family who doesn’t think much of animals. Just kinda has them around. This is the first time it’s gotten out of control for her.

She only has carpet in her bedroom. Hard wood everywhere else. Believe me I’ve considered calling the board of health on her myself but she’s usually kept it under control until recently. But now that she has my dog it’s likely that she would be taken and hauled off to the pound like the rest of the animals would be if I called. My grandma is a bit delusional. Idk how to convince her. She believes that the cats all need to go together to one place. She refuses to call anywhere to see if they can take any of that cats. She had to take some of them to the pound where they were put to sleep the next day. I think it traumatized her. It is unfortunate but most no kill places would take even one or two cats let alone 20+.

I can’t find tiki gourmet anywhere sadly. Only the regular tiki cat cans that all have fish in them. I’ve been curious about the gourmet cans tho. If I ever come apon it I’ll def have to buy a couple cans.

I have not. I thought about adding halo’s impulse cans but for some reason I just forgot about them so I’ll have to try them for sure and I tried regular merrick canned sometime ago and for whatever reason they weren’t a big fan. Is the whole earth farms much different? And there’s the whole purina owns merrick thing I’m not a big fan of supporting anything purina. Even if they still say merrick is seperate.

Idk if I should keep asking for help here but it seems a bit easier then starting new threads everytime and perhaps if we keep this thread busy we will be noticed and get our kitty food advisor site. Anyway I have no problem feeding my dog good foods as she’s not picky and has a great appetite but I’ve seem to run into problems with my three cats. I’ve switched over to just raw and canned and they’ve been doing good but it seems they’re getting burned out of the types of caned I buy them. I work at a pet shop and I love adventuring to other pet boutiques and stores and looking for other good brands of food from the five star brands here on dfa. It’s easy to find my dog good foods for her rotation diet but buying cat food I find is a bit different as each can can vary in quality and what not. I feed my cats wellness core, wellness signature selects, instinct, lotus, weruva, and holisic select. Where I work supplies the wellness and instinct but I do venture out and get the other brands and I order weruva from time to time. However my kitties seem to be getting tired of this line up and are leaving their bowls almost full when I go to clean up their bowls. Does anyone have suggestions on grain free and fish free canned cat foods? I’ve been thinking of natural balance wild pursuit and blue wilderness, but I’ve been weary of blue since they’ve been found to be lying about what they put in there foods. Any easy suggestions where I can either buy individual cans or order them singly that would be very helpful. Thank you. 🙂

I have some more questions. Since I’m switching to just canned and raw from kibble and canned and raw I was just wondering exactly how cat’s get all the protein they need from just canned and raw because when I look at the GA on the kibble I feed it’s 44% protein but the raw doesn’t even make it to 20% and the cans are around 10%-13%. So will my cat’s protein intake go down if I cut the kibble all the way out? It’s probably a silly question because I know a wet diet is better then kibble and cats shouldn’t even have kibble, but if anyone could explain the protein thing to me I’d be appreciative.

They take up the water first before anything. Idk how cats to it but they can suck the moisture right out of canned foods and in this case the added water so I think they’re ok.

I need some advice. I have three cats and I feed NV instinct dry 1/4 cup per cat in the morning. I have about two weeks amount left and will start using what I feed at night in the morning and night so I don’t have to feed dry anymore. What I do at night is take a can of either wellness core, instinct, weruva, or lotus and I mix a third of a can per cat with a 3/4 a cup of instinct commercial raw and a sprinkle of fresh pet chicken and oceanfish refrigerated food. I just wanted to know if it’s ok to mix it with water. When I have the raw in a measuring cup I put hot water from the tap to help it thaw faster and warm up Cus my kitties are picky. Does this take away from the nutrients? I know heating raw up kinda defeats the purpose of feeding raw. Is the hot water ok to use?
