MemberI have a 10 year old English Bulldog that has started have having Low Blood Sugar, I would like any suggestions as to what would be the best to monitor blood sugar in dogs and for anyone who has this problem with their dog and the way they help to get the Blood sugar up. MemberHi Billy L
Before I say anything else, I have to warn you that low blood sugar can be a life threatening situation! I don’t want to upset you but I also don’t want anything to happen to your Bully.
The gold standard in BG meters for dogs is the AlphaTRAK 2.
http://www.alphatrakmeter.com/index.html
To raise blood sugar quickly corn syrup or glucose liquid or syrup. If your dog is unable to take the sugar by mouth he will need intravenous glucose immediately.
I strongly advise you to seek out a Veterinary endocrinologist or other Vet with experience in this area. The underlying cause of the low blood sugars should be figured out ASAP and treated.
Good luck!!!
