The first few ingredients in all the products reveal at least some varying sequence of the same four basic components…
- Chicken by-products meal
- Chicken meat
- Corn meal
- Sorghum
Chicken is considered “the clean combination of flesh and skin… derived from the parts or whole carcasses of chicken”.1
Chicken by-product meal is a dry-baked (dehydrated) product of slaughterhouse waste. It’s made from what’s left of a slaughtered chicken after all the prime cuts have been removed.
Corn meal is a coarsely ground flour made from dried corn.
Sorghum is a starchy cereal grain with a nutrient profile similar to corn.
The Bottom Line
Eukanuba Breed Specific Dog Foods
For the group, protein averaged 28% with fat content clocking-in at just north of 14%. These figures suggest an overall carbohydrate content of 50% for the full product line.
Average protein. Average fat. And average carbohydrates… when compared to a typical dry dog food.
With no sign of any plant-based protein concentrates, this is the profile of a kibble containing a moderate amount of meat.
Bottom line?
Eukanuba Breed Specific dog foods are grain-based kibbles using a fair amount of chicken or chicken by-products meals as their main sources of animal protein… thus earning the line three stars.
Recommended.
