We bought some cans of Merrick Backcountry Hearty Chicken Thigh Stew because our two GSD really enjoy the Backcountry line and because Dogfoodadvisor has them rated at 5 stars:
/dog-food-reviews/merrick-backcountry-grain-free-stews-dog-food/
When we opened the Hearty Chicken Thigh Stew it smelled REALLY BAD to my wife and I. A kind of rancid/spoiled smell. It was truly gross. BUT, our dogs were going crazy over it. They wanted to eat it so bad but we decided not to feed it to them because we’ve never smelled something like that in a dog food. And we feed them “stinky” food like Tripett Green Beef Tripe, but this was too much.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? Is that strong smell normal for that brand/flavor?
I contacted Merrick and they offered to send me some coupons but didn’t answer my question about the smell.
