I have fed my miniature dachshund science diet since she was 5 weeks old (she is 9). I put her on the diet small kibbles since she’s gained weight. This year, she has been getting sick (temporary back leg paralysis overnight 3 times). Beginning in July, she was having back/neck pain and I was scared that I was losing her. Since she kept gaining weight on this food, I changed to Iams. Well, it just got worse. After reading about how bad it is for humans to eat processed food (I started fruit/veggie juicing for myself) I started researching feeding dogs natural food. I have been feeding her a mixture of rice (with chicken stock/greenbeans/boiled eggs. She loves it! She is losing weight, has actually been running, playing with her toys (runs and fetches) and is very happy/loving again. My husband tells her that I saved her life. I will never feed her ANY processed “dog food” again.
