I know how difficult this will be, but when you see the vet on Thursday, have an honest discussion with him as to how aggressive you want to be with diagnostic testing and treatment, versus care and comfort measures.
If you opt for aggressive treatment, consider the outcome and how well he would tolerate recovery, you know your dog best.
