We have short freezes about 5 times a year. My hen house is a 3 sided shed. The open side is towards east, which is the direction we least frequently get cold or wet weather from. I don’t have to do anything different for them in winter, most days are still in the low 80s.

If I put lights on them, they would supposedly lay more eggs over the winter, but I think they haved earned their break.
