Akari, I probably would have to say the rule of thumb is to dump your box weekly, however I don’t. I go by odor, I scoop pretty regularily and I spot clean using a bleach/H2O combo in a spray bottle (from you guessed it, catinfo.org). Hopefully someone else can tell you about what routine they follow, I don’t want to lead you astray.
Also, I never used it or looked into it, but on catinfo.org one of the clumping litters she recommends is Petco’s brand. She says they sell it loose from a bin? I don’t know because I haven’t walked into that store in ages. But, even if they don’t have something like this I believe they do have their own brand that may be worth looking into.
