So sorry your Westie has Gerd. My dog is a rescue and right from the start, when we first got him we noticed he would cough after drinking water. He would regurgitate a lot and vomit horrible bile if we didn’t feed him right away in the morning. He didn’t have much of an appetite and we ran all kinds of tests and expensive GI studies. We never got much in the way of answers so I finally started trying different foods and supplements. My dog has bad allergies and IBS and if he eats the wrong thing, he will have the worst diarrhea for days. We have to keep him on a hypoallergenic lamb raw diet and consistently add pumpkin, sweet potato and psyllium whenever he eats.
Our vet suggested giving him a digestive enzyme with HCL in it because that helps dogs digest fat and protein, more than plant-based enzymes. I have noticed that if we forget to give him the supplements, he will burp and regurgitate on the floor. He is so much better now than we first got him.
For treats, we found ostrich from Tuesday’s Dog and also some just plain rabbit jerky. He can’t have anything like bully sticks but one thing we do is give him a small snack before bed and 3-4 small meals throughout the day. Hope your pup feels better!
