Canadian Video Exposes the Dangers of Chinese Chicken Jerky Treats

Share

The following video recently broadcast by the Canadian CBC news magazine, Marketplace, is a documentary exposing the dangers of Chinese-made chicken jerky dog treats.

What You Can Do to Help

Since the FDA cannot legally order a recall based upon complaints alone, we believe pet food retailers should act responsibly on their own and voluntarily stop selling these controversial treats.

If you agree with us that these Chinese-made jerky treats should be immediately recalled, please help us send this urgent message to the pet food industry — and sign this important petition now.

Beneful dog food is killing and sickening dogs too! My dog started throwing up, kidneys started to shut down and I had to put him down after he went into total renal failure. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/pets/beneful.html 677 reviews/complaints 88% Bad!

    Donna,

I’m so sorry about Bella and Kiwi. That’s so incredibly awful. Your heart must surely be broken.

I am very sorry for your loss.

I am so sorry to hear that you lost your girls.

I’m so sorry about the loss of your girls.  It breaks my heart that they can’t figure out what is causing this and do something about it.

The anonymous looking post below was mine…I’ve now signed in.

Both of my dogs, Bella (12 yrs) and Kiwi (11 yrs) had to be euthanized due to kidney failure within 3 weeks of each other just this past August.  We were devastated.   I had fed the Waggin Train Duck treats for the better part of a year.  (late 2010 into early 2012).  My sister in law found the link about the FDA and the warning, but sadly for my “girls”, it was too late.  I can so relate to this video and the sadness and heartbreak experienced by the owners of Tiki and Dinah.

Our baby Skylar died last March I think from these treats. Don’t blame just Wagon Train although they are one of the lousiest companies out there. I stopped buying their stuff when my dog got intractable diarrhea. It turns out they were pulled in Delaware but not the state I lived in! Go figure. BTW salmonella is, more or less, typhoid. It just doesn’t sound as scary.

Good for you Ruthie, and when you return it, tell them clearly and loudly exactly why you are returning it.  Let everyone hear!  Hopefully your dog has suffered no permanent damage.  Spread the word!!

I did not know Waggin’ Train Jerky Tenders was a product made in CHINA.  I thought my pet’s actions @unable to jump or get on the couch, drinking so much water, and sleeping a lot were due to perhaps his age? Then I realized, just today,  that I had been feeding him his favorite treat and slowly, overtime, he had begun to change. I pray I have done damage to him.  I purchased this product from Costco.  Thank you all for this information and I will be returning the remaining package and also the new package I had bought.

Why on earth would we trust the food made in a country where there is virtually no regulation and some people EAT dogs!

  • Jackie B

“Maximum daily serving” is just to cover their liability. So they can have something else to BLAME when pets die. Don’t buy this stuff! I’ve switched to True Chews, USA-made and USA-sourced.

  • RHONDA

Don’t you think it’s time we stopped buying the garbage that is in Chinese products?  It’s cheap but not edible.  STOP BUYING ANY PET PRODUCTS THAT ARE MADE IN CHINA.  TAKE NOTICE THAT THE VAST MAJORITY OF PET PRODUCTS ARE MADE IN CHINA.  WHEN THE LABEL SAYS “DISTRIBUTED BY (A COMPANY) IN THE US” IT DOESN’T MEAN IT WAS MADE HERE.  BOYCOTT CHINA PRODUCTS!!!

  • Pattyvaughn

Apparently our trade agreements with China prevent doing the right thing, business wins, we lose.

When you have enough circumstantial evidence, it carries the weight of solid evidence in court. Why can’t they force these “treats” to be pulled??
