ParticipantThank you for the response. You are probably right about using the Rx food short term to help with healing, the ingredient list is hard for me to get past though. I was actually looking at Pure Vita today at a pet supply store (but they only had 20 lb bags and I need to start w/ 5 lbs or so in case they donāt like it) and they also recommended Dr. Garyās Best Breed Grain Free Dry food. I may try the Pure Vita Turkey. I really appreciate the suggestions.

ParticipantHi, I can relate to your loose stool issues.
I have 2 Bostons, one is 11 lbs and one is 28 lbs. Both are 3 yrs old and female. I have been trying to find a low fat limited ingredient food for them. The larger one has had bouts of diarrhea (some was bloody) and some vomiting on and off for the past month. My vet had her on metronidazole for 2-3 weeks but she started to break out in hives from it so we had to discontinue the med. They had been eating Annamaet Option 24% dry food for the past year or more with some boiled chicken or ground turkey as a mix in to entice them to eat it. For some reason they donāt want to eat it anymore and are having loose stools, etc. They have been on a bland diet on and off for the last month (boiled chicken and rice or pasta) with no loose stools or vomiting but obviously are not getting the nutrition they need. Every time I start to re-introduce the dry food, the loose stools start up again. I am working with my vet to try to find a suitable food for them. They were eating Acana Ranchlands Regional previous to the Annamaet kibble. They had the same issues after eating that food for over a year also (not wanting to eat it, loose stools, etc). Anyone else experience this with their dogs? Itās so frustrating to find a food they like that they can tolerate. My vet mentioned Royal Canin Gastro. and Hillās Prescription ID (which they sell in the office) but I am not a fan of those 2 choices. Iām also skeptical of TOTW because of Diamond manufacturing and California Natural due to previous recalls. The DFA has several low fat suggestions here, I just hate buying a whole 5 lb bag of something if they wonāt eat it. I guess I will go into town and see what I can find at Petsmart or Soldanās that is a decent food. May be that I have to find some nutritional add-ins and cook for them, they are picky.
I also had my dogās anal glands expressed at the vet about a month ago and she does sit and spin on her butt at times, maybe she needs them done again.-

ParticipantYes, you are right about the 75%. I was wondering if you think this food has a high ash content? My little one is only 6 lbs at 4 mos ⦠she will be a smaller Boston than my 23 lb 1 yr old. I know that high ash is bad for cats. I assume itās not good for puppies/dogs either? Thanks for the advice.

ParticipantThanks for the suggestions Olga. I have been feeding Orijin Regional Red which is for all life stages and they are both eating it (although the 4 mo old doesnāt like it as much as the 1 yr old does). I also add a little wet food to the dry (currently Wellness 95% beef, turkey or chicken). I just wonder if the high protein is too much for the little one ⦠Orijen Reg Red is 75% protein plus the wet is high protein but I only add enough to coat the kibble (1/2 tsp or so). I also add a little boiled/chopped chicken breast to the top (1 tablespoon or so). The one year old gobbles it up and eats very well, but the little one is not as fond of it. She eats it just fine when the older one is near ācause she doesnāt want her to get it, though ⦠LOL. We are battling a yeast infection in the little oneās ear right now and she is a little itchy and licking her paws, not sure if it is environmental or food related. Hoping itās not the food ā¦

ParticipantThank you for the suggestions, I am looking at some samples (some free and some minimally priced) from K9cuisine. I value your opinion (based on what I have seen on this forum) so I will forgo the TOTW. The rotational diet makes sense, too. I am getting samples of Orijin, Acana, Amicus, Fromm, Solid Gold, The Honest Kitchen and some freeze-dried grain-free chicken and beef from Dr. Harveyās. Hopefully, they will like the freeze-dried. I have tried the pure canned pumpkin a couple of times but I donāt want to add it to every meal, since they eat 3 meals a day and Iām afraid that may be a bit too much pumpkin. My last 2 Bostonās were picky eaters, too and they ate mostly canned food but it seems like I tried every brand there was available and they were never really fond of any of them. I ended up cooking for them a lot (beef/chicken and brown rice with vegies, etc.) I was feeding them a small amount of Canidae dry with the home cooked mixed in with it. I was hoping to find a good quality food so I donāt have to spend so much time preparing a home cooked diet (but I will if I have to). Thanks again, this dog food selection always seems like a daunting task for me ⦠sigh. Mary
