thank you for your help on the chewing. I ended up finding the bully sticks at a local farm store and she loves them. I also found creative ways online on how to build a kong treat. So far, so good on the chewing!

Regarding the giardia, it’s not back but she’s getting loose stools. Our vet recommended ‘the science diet: I/D’ for 10 days with a tablespoon of yogurt, which really helped, but now that we’re transitioning back to the Earthborn Holistic: Coastal Catch her stools are getting progressively worse. The vet really zapped her belly with 2 different antibiotics, so is this food to hard on her tummy? Should I switch to the Holistic select or Fromm? I definitely know that little bag of SD I/D wasn’t enough to transition her verrryy sssllloowwlly back to the Coastal Catch, so I’m also wondering if this is our issue.

Thanks in advance for all of your help. I really don’t know what I would do without this forum as I work through issues with my first fur baby!

    Hi all
As if two rounds of giardia wasn’t enough, our 1 year old Berner has started to chew the wood trim in the room we’re keeping her in during the day. Deer antlers, dried sweet potatoe wedges, nylabones, Kong treat blends, and long walks don’t seem to keep our darling from destroying the trim. I don’t want to go the rawhid route, but it seems it’s a texture thing with her. My husband treatens to put her back in the crate but she is 75lbs and is completely done with potty training. Any advice on what to give her to occupy her time?

    Thanks!

I’ve rotated her food frequently since we brought her home in June and to be honest it was only because I was trying to find my medium with budget and a quality puppy food. She did well on Dr Tim’s kinsis for a while and then I recently switched to Innova large breed puppy. I also couldn’t resist the Black Friday deals for wellness core grain free. Denali was having small issues with th innova before I started to introduce the wellness bag. I thought about switching her back what she was previously eating, dr.tims kinesis, but I might try the digestive enzyme first to see how that works. We eliminated the cat food temptation over the weekend and it made her accidents less frequent but it still isn’t solving our issue

    Hi Everyone,
I see a lot of people in the past have had issues with diaherria and loose stools. I’m rotate my feeding my 9 month old Bernese mountain dog Dr Tim’s kinesis, innova large breed puppy, and wellness core grain free. All are on the recommended list. Has anyone had any issues with these foods? She also likes to sneak out kitten’s food so I’m wondering if that food could be the culprit. It has been going on for a month but she still seems to be eating and drinking fine.

Thank you all for your advice on brands and grains. I wish there was a way to get a keyword search to this forum so I could see if anyone has previously asked the same questions I post here, but unfortunately I have another one here it is:

What is the consensus of Dr. Tim’s kinesis as far as issues with those who serve it? I am looking at the all stages with grains. I noticed it is a recommended food on the google docs and it has five stars, but it’s always good to hear about results. I noticed the grain free was taken off of the new list, did they change their recipe?

    Thank you!

Thank you aquariangt for your response. I do have another question for you or anyone else that is listening; what is the big deal about being grain free? I do know that Berners are seldom allergic to soy and my parents lab is definitely allergic to wheat and corn. However is there any other benefit for going grain free other than avoiding allergies?

    Thanks!

Thank you everyone for your advice on where to buy dog food. I’m debating about wellness, fromm, natures variety, or earth born holistic. I have issues with not knowing where the food is coming from as my parents just spent thousands of dollars from salmonella poisoning with their (our) beloved black lab. The vet hospital claimed it was sweet potato treats from china that most likely caused the issue. Luckily she is fully rehabbed but it has caused us to be cautious about where our dog products are coming from. Anyone have recommendations for a trusted puppy brand off of the ‘large breed puppy food list’ for my 14 week old Berner?

Also, do I stop watching the calcium levels after the pup is fully grown? I want to say Berners reach maturity after 2 years but that seems like an awful long time to be on puppy food.

    Thank you!

    Hi
I am a new mom of a 14 week old bener. My breeder told me the old wives tale of reducing the puppy to adult food after she is 4 months but now I’m reading that this is not the case. Luckily I’ve been feeding her Wellness puppy food since we got her at 10 weeks and I see that it’s on your approved list. I have two questions; 1.) When is the proper time to switch my giant breed to adult large breed dog food and 2.) where do I find most of the dog foods in your approved list? I tried searching for other varietys to mix it up a bit but I’m finding that petco and petsmart don’t carry most of the brands on the list. I’m starting to freak myself out from reading some of the posts of hipdisplasia in young pups but I figure this forum would be a good place to start to gain my sanity back. Thank you so much for sharing your research.
