ParticipantI have a litter of 2 week old boxer puppies and I will begin weaning them in about another week and a half. I was wondering if anyone had opinions on which foods are best for weaning. The mom is on Nature’s Variety Instinct, Weruva canned and Honest Kitchen.

MemberI would wean them to what you are feeding lactating mom. Soak the food thoroughly and let it sit in the fridge until you can easily mash it with a fork, even canned food needs to be mashed if it has lumps. Heat it up by adding warm water until you have a gruel, if the puppies need more calories you can use goats milk, and adding a dose of probiotics is a good idea. Test the temp before you feed. Puppies are extremely messy eaters, so put them where you don’t mind a mess to eat and plan on having to clean them up afterward. Start by only feeding them one small meal the first day or so, then 2 meals and so on until they are eating enough solid food.
