Took Bailey,my yorkie, to vet today for a check up. He told me he has Distichiasis in one of his eyes. Bailey has not had any symptoms but he says it can lead to ulcers and infection if it gets bad. He says it’s minor surgery but he has to be put to sleep and that bothers me. I am so upset! Has anyone’s dog had this and could explain it to me. Thanks

We have had a few dogs in rescue with it. It will cause wye ulcers if left untreated. In some dogs thwy can pluck the offending lashes out while awake but that depends on the dog. It has been 15yrs since we dealt with it, so perhaps there is a new form of treatment
