Ingredients Analysis

The first ingredient is rabbit. Rabbit is considered “the clean flesh derived from slaughtered rabbit” and associated with skeletal muscle or the muscle tissues of the tongue, diaphragm, heart, esophagus or other tissues accompanying the flesh.1

Rabbit is naturally rich in all 10 essential amino acids required by a dog to sustain life.

The second ingredient is duck liver. This is an organ meat sourced from a named animal and thus considered a beneficial component.

The third ingredient is dandelion greens. Dandelion roots, leaves and flowers are featured in traditional herbal medicine and are thought to provide health benefits. These include supporting the health of the liver and soothing inflammation, controlling blood sugar and providing digestive health benefits.

It must be noted that there have been no studies so far which have found inclusion of dandelion greens in the diets of dogs to provide health benefits. Dandelion greens are a source of fiber, as well as minerals including magnesium, potassium and iron.

The fourth ingredient is organic kelp, an algae-based seaweed modest in protein content but rich in marine minerals.

From here the list goes on to include a number of other items. But to be realistic, ingredients located this far down the list (other than nutritional supplements) are not likely to affect the overall rating of the product.

This recipe has one notable exception.

Since this recipe contains organic ingredients, we feel compelled to grant this line a more favorable status as we consider its final rating.

That’s because organic ingredients must comply with notably more stringent government standards – standards which significantly restrict the use of any synthetic pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, hormones or antibiotics.

Nutrient Analysis

Based on its ingredients alone, Green Juju Frozen Raw Diet Patties & Sliders Rabbit Recipe with Duck Liver looks like an above-average frozen-raw product.

The dashboard displays a dry matter protein reading of 60.8%, a fat level of 26.7% and an estimated carbohydrate level of 6.2%.

As a group, the brand features a protein content of 53.6% and a mean fat level of 34.4%. Together, these figures suggest a carbohydrate content of 5.8% for the overall product line, alongside a fat-to-protein ratio of 67%.

This means this Green Juju frozen raw product line contains above-average protein, below-average carbohydrate, and above-average fat, when compared to typical frozen raw dog food.

Our Rating of Green Juju Frozen Raw Diet Patties & Sliders Dog Food

The brand is highly focused on organic, locally and sustainably sourced ingredients, and definitely deserves the 5 stars it has received in our review.

It is worth noting that the duck & sardine and lamb recipes have a low rating due to a high fat-to-protein ratio. Since the ingredients are of really good quality, they would be ideal for active dogs.
