User Review Terms of Use Policy

Dog Food Advisor welcomes honest, first-hand reviews from dog owners. To protect our readers, our contributors, and the integrity of this site, all reviews must comply with the following policy.

1. Eligibility

You may only submit a review if you have personally purchased and used the product with your own dog. Reviews from brand employees, contractors, agents, or anyone with a financial relationship with the manufacturer are not permitted unless the connection is fully and clearly disclosed in the review text.

2. Authenticity

Reviews must reflect your genuine, first-hand experience. You may not submit reviews on behalf of another person, submit multiple reviews for the same product, or create fictitious reviews of any kind.

3. Accuracy and Defamation

All factual statements in your review must be true and based on your personal experience. Do not state or imply facts about a brand, manufacturer, or product that you do not know to be true. False statements of fact about an identifiable company or product — even if made without malicious intent — may constitute defamation and expose both you and Dog Food Advisor to legal liability.

4. Health and Medical Claims

You may describe observable changes in your dog (e.g., coat condition, stool quality, energy levels, palatability). You may not state or imply that a product cured, treated, prevented, or mitigated any disease or medical condition. Such claims may violate regulations enforced by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and will be removed.

5. Disclosure of Incentives

In accordance with FTC guidelines (16 CFR Part 255), you must disclose any material connection to a brand, including but not limited to: receiving the product for free, receiving compensation or discounts in exchange for a review, or any other incentive. Failure to disclose such connections is a violation of FTC regulations and this policy.

6. Prohibited Content

Reviews must not contain:

  • Offensive, abusive, or discriminatory language
  • Personal attacks on individuals
  • Advertising, promotional links, or references to competing products or services
  • Private or personally identifiable information about any individual
  • Content that infringes any third-party copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property right

7. Scope

Reviews should address the product itself — its ingredients, palatability, and observed effects on your dog. Comments about pricing, shipping, retailer experience, or customer service are outside the scope of a product review and will be removed.

8. Moderation and Removal

Dog Food Advisor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to edit, decline to publish, or remove any review that violates this policy, contains unverifiable health claims, or exposes Dog Food Advisor to legal or reputational risk. We are not obligated to notify submitters of edits or removals.

9. License

By submitting a review, you grant Dog Food Advisor a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to publish, display, and reproduce your review in whole or in part on this website and in related communications.

10. Responsibility

You are solely responsible for the content of your review. Dog Food Advisor does not verify the accuracy of user-submitted reviews and expressly disclaims liability for any claims arising from review content.
