ParticipantDear Wonderful Dog Lovers,
Bailey is improving. I tried Kirkland grain free Salmon, he immediately started licking his paws on the first bowlful. (1/2 cup Kirkland 1 1/2 Nat Bal). I didnāt believe the change would be so sudden. I took it back. After a week I tried a sample bag of Canine Caviar Wild Ocean, Grain Free, no potatoes. Same thing, he started licking again. Iām beginning to think itās not the food, itās the change of flavor (herring as opposed to salmon). I canāt figure it out. So heās back on 100% Nat Bal. His coat is getting really nice, (my wife only has to vacuum once a day), not quite, but his shedding has gotten a lot better.
Iām going to look for the Grizzly Salmon Oil.
Iāll report back.
Thank you all so much for you support.February 20, 2013 at 7:37 am in reply to: HELP! Lab's Neverending Ear & Yeast Problems :( #14434 Report Abuse Edit Post Visibilitypanda
ParticipantHi KC,
Iāve got the same ear problem with Bailey my 7 yr old yellow lab. He seems to favor his right ear. We have to clean his ears and put some stuff in it mostly every night. Iām going to see if I can get to the bottom of this. Iāll keep you posted.

ParticipantI want to thank everyone for their kind advice. It has been a month since my last post. Bailey is doing nicely, his paw licking has stopped, his d is gone, he is totally normal. A side effect is that his coat has improved.
Heās on Nat Bal sweet potato and fish kibble and treats. We give him 1/3 of a carrot 3 times a day and 6 to nine small treats per day. Last Saturday he had salmon skins. Thatās been it.
Thank you all very much,
Paul

ParticipantIn the 2 weeks since we have changed to Nat Bal, he stopped licking, but Bailey developed severe diarrhea, and his stool is soft, when he doesnāt have the diarrhea. We put him on cooked rice, then mixed with his Nat Bal, which seemed to help but I have to take him out every 2-3 hours, including in the middle of the night, and he takes forever to poop, and when he does its liquidy. Anyone have a similar problem? Help.

ParticipantHi Betsy,
You are amazing. I knew there was something I was missing. We are going to keep a very close eye on Bailey.
Thank you ever so much.

ParticipantHi Betsy,
Thank you for your concern and advice. And to you also HDM.
Sorry, Iām not familiar with the term D/D. From what I gather taking out grain and corn seems to stop a lot of allergies. Will keep you posted.
The sweet potatoes we are familiar with are like an orange color ā like a cross between carrots and potatoes. I would be interested to know if they are considered āwhiteā as far as dog food is concerned. If they are I did not know that.
Thank you,
Panda

ParticipantThank you all for your support ā LabsRawesome our Bailey looks like an identical twin of yours.
After considering all your responses and with the with help of Isobel at Global in Hudson we bought some Nat Bal potato/fish.
The other thing is we like to feed him carrots and apple quarters after his meal. Do you think we could continue giving him carrots and apples during the changeover from Royal Canin to Nat Bal or should we just wait a while.
We cannot thank you all enough.
