    Hello everyone,

I’m trying to find the right food for my Great Pyrenees puppy, Kevin. He’s just 12 weeks old and since his job is guarding chickens, I really want something poultry free. All the recommendations on this site have chicken or turkey as the main ingredient.

    Any advice?

    thanks!

Nutrisca Salmon and Chickpea, not sure if they have a puppy formula….I usually go right to adult foods with a topper at his age or a little older. https://www.chewy.com/dog/dogswell-nutrisca-grain-free-salmon/dp/35033

    Hey Richard,

Check out taste of the wild High Prairie Puppy Formula with Roasted Bison & Roasted Venison (no chicken or chicken by products! :D). I absolutely love this company (as your local mom/pop pet food store if they carry samples) and have fed my pups this brand before switching them over to Orijen and Acana earlier last year. Also, If you want to add more veggies and meat to his diet try mixing in some Sojo’s or Honest Kitchen. All you need to do is add water and mix it in w/ his kibble or just give it to him as a full meal (i’d recommend mixing in w/ his dry food as Sojo’s and Honest Kitchen are a little on the pricey side)

Richard – with a large breed puppy you will need to make sure that the calcium : phosphorous ratios are appropriate.

    Check out this link: /forums/topic/large-and-giant-breed-puppy-nutrition/

I understand where you are coming from with not wanting to feed poultry to a dog that guards chickens, but I don’t think that feeding him a chicken based food will make him want to go eat the live chickens he is guarding.

I think that Wellness CORE Puppy would be a good food – but that has chicken and turkey.
