August 25, 2025 Viva Raw LLC is voluntarily recalling two lots of dog and cat foods due to contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.
What was recalled?
The products affected are listed below. Because Viva is a subscription service, only customers who have received a direct email notice will have received these lots.
- Ground Beef for Dogs – Lot 21495
- Beef & Turkey Recipe for Puppies – Lot 21495
- Ground Chicken for Dog – Lot 21975
- Chunked Chicken for Dogs – Lot 21975
- Chicken for Cats – Lot 21975
- Pure Chicken – Lot 21975
The North Carolina Department of Agriculture collected routine product samples from Viva’s warehouse. Samples from Chunked Chicken for Dogs (Lot 21975) were positive for Salmonella spp., and samples of the Recipe for Puppies (Lot 21495) were positive for Listeria monocytogenes.
Listeria can affect animals who consume the product as well as humans handling the food, in particular if they don’t wash their hands after handling the product or not sanitizing the surfaces the food came into contact with.
What to do?
Please check your freezer or fridge for any of the Viva products listed above. If you find any, destroy it in a manner whereby no children, pets or wildlife can consume it.
Ensure you handle the food correctly: the FDA recommends you do not touch it with bare hands. Wear plastic gloves or use paper towels to dispose of the product in a sealed plastic bag in the garbage, and thoroughly sanitize all surfaces afterwards.
If you discover you’ve fed some of the affected lot to your dog, monitor them for symptoms including lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea or fever. Pets can also be infected with Listeria monocytogenes without showing any symptoms and can act as carriers, passing it on through their feces and saliva to other members of the household. Therefore it’s important if you observe any of the above symptoms, or other symptoms that you’re worried about, that you contact your veterinary surgeon immediately.
Only customers who have received a direct email notice received products from the affected lots. Please submit the response form linked in your notice so that Viva can process a refund for any remaining packages.
