Foodynamics Recalls Raw Dog Barkery, BellePepper Cats, and Kanu Pets Freeze-Dried Pet Treats

October 09, 2025 — Foodynamics has issued a voluntary recall of certain lots of Raw Dog Barkery, BellePepper Cats, and Kanu Pets brand freeze-dried pet treats because of a potential Salmonella contamination.

What was recalled?

The recall covers freeze-dried pet treats sold under these brands and in the following varieties:

These products were distributed from Wisconsin via UPS to retailers in Wisconsin, New York, and Florida. A total of 7 packages were distributed to consumers in these states. Foodynamics has instructed retailers to examine their inventory immediately, quarantine any affected products, and arrange refunds for recalled items.

Foodynamics states that it successfully traced 100% of the distribution shortly after the recall announcement and has contacted all direct customers. To date, no adverse health effects have been reported in pets or humans.

Why was this recall issued?

The recall stems from FDA sampling that detected Salmonella in the products. As a precaution, Foodynamics has suspended production and distribution of the affected items while working with the FDA on an investigation into the source of contamination.

What should you do?

Consumers who have purchased these products should have been contacted by Foodynamics. They should cease using them.  

Do not sell or donate the recalled products. Do not feed the recalled product to pets or any other animals. Wash and sanitize pet food bowls, cups, and storage containers. 

Always ensure you wash and sanitize your hands after handling recalled food or any utensils that come in contact with recalled food. 

Health risks

Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.
