About Salmonella

Pets infected with Salmonella may appear lethargic and may experience diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite or abdominal pain. Some pets may be infected without showing symptoms and can spread the bacteria to other animals or humans.

People handling contaminated pet food may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever or abdominal cramping. In rare cases, Salmonella can lead to more serious conditions, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms. Anyone who develops symptoms after handling the product should contact a healthcare provider.

No illnesses have been reported to date.

Cause of the Recall

The recall was initiated after routine FDA sampling found Salmonella in the affected lot. Production and distribution of the lot have been suspended while the company and the FDA investigate the source of the contamination.
