Lennox International Expands Pig Ears Dog Treats Recall

July 26, 2019 — The Lennox International, Inc., of Edison NJ, is voluntary recalling its Natural Pig Ears dog treats because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

What’s Recalled?

The affected pig ears product is supplied in an 8-pack branded pouch under UPC 742174995163 and 742174994166.

It is also available in an individually shrink-wrapped package under UPC 0385384810 and 742174P35107.

All UPC codes are located on the front label of the package.

About Salmonella

Salmonella can affect animals eating the product and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products which are solely for the consumption by dogs.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.

Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms.

Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting.

Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain.

Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.

If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

About the Recall

The recalled products were shipped nationwide to distributors and retail stores between November 1, 2018 and July 3, 2019.

To date, Lennox is aware of cases of its pig ears causing illnesses in dogs.

These cases may be related to the ongoing FDA investigation of Salmonella illness associated with what appears to be a multiple source.
