He does get ticks sometimes during our walks but I check him as soon as we get home and take it off. I do use a shampoo and conditioner called herbal defense organic I also have the herbal defense spray too and I spray him when we leave to walk.I order it from the natural pet store.so far no fleas.

I have the best vet and he tries to help me with food but he admits he needs to know more. He wants me to do what’s best for my animal. He knows I don’t like or use flea protection, steroids, etc and he works with me. In fact he’s thinking about taking an acupuncture course in Fl. which will cost him $10 thousand dollars. Love my Dr. Mac.

I have a yorkie and I would never feed him those foods. Since yorkies are small and don’t eat much why not transition him to canned food or dehydrated food.

I have been through the heartworm treatment with my yorkie so I know what ur going through. The second injection Bailey had made him paralyzed in his back but my vet gave him some kind of narcotic and he was okay. The hardest part for me was the confinement for 30 days. Every time we went out had to put him on leash where he couldn’t exert much energy but we made it and u will too. I will be thinking about and praying for u and Turbo!

You are so right Patty my vet used the arsenic but first we had to take antibiotic and prednisone a month but the worst part was keeping him calm for a month while the heartworms were dying and traveling.thank goodness we just had the 2 shots 24 hours apart but did not have to go back in a month for the second one.my vet says he has had less problems with Heartgard than any other heart preventive.

Dachassett I also live in Ga and my vet recommends heartworm treatment all year. We have mosquitoes all year in Vidalia, where I live and my yorkie is a rescue who had heartworms so this is the only medicine I give him. The heartworm treatment he went through was terrible but thank God we made it!

My only doubt about it being the Heartgard is he’s been on it for 4 years and I’ve never had a problem.

Don’t fill bad my vet who is also my good friend told me to give it with food but I told him what Dr. Dobbs said. She suggest giving it to them with a little peanut butter or marshmallow not cheese or meat. It has something to do with the calcium.I bought Dr. Dobbs book on Amazon. She is an expert on thyroids. I’m giving my vet the book to read when I finish.

My yorkie is hypothyroid and on soloxine. My vet checked his blood and sent off for a complete thyroid panel after he had been on it 3 months to make sure the t3 and tsh was working and to see if the dosage was right. My vet sent the blood to Michigan State but Hemopet with Dr. Jean dobbs is also a good place to send it.usually dogs that are truly hypothyroid have to be on the medicine for life but the dosage can change. Make sure you have the blood drawn 3 or 4 hours after her/his morning pill.also do not give the pill with food give it 1hour before eating or 3 hours after eating. I am reading the canine thyroid epidemic by Dr. Jean Dobbs and learning a lot. I recommend it for anyone who has a hypothyroid dog.

It’s not reverse sneezing. His food is even emptying into his intestines fine so its not food. It is a little something hanging. I’m on my way to the vet this morning and I pray it is gone. I think my vet is afraid of a tumor.

I just have to make this comment about chewey’s.com. I ordered about $90 worth of canned food and could not use them. I called the site to send them back and the lady told me to take them to a shelter and she would credit my card. Needless to say they now have all of my business!

My yorkie rescue had heart worms. My vet put her on an antibiotic for a month and prednisone. Then he gave her an injection on morning and the second injection the next morning. He was still on prednisone. I had to keep him quiet for a month especially while the worms are dying and traveling. No running, I walked him out on a lease where he couldn’t run. He didn’t have to have another injection a month later because he didn’t have the big ones or small(can’t remember which) He is fine now but I keep him on heart worm preventive year round because I live in South Ga and we have mosquitoes year round. Good luck!

I am going to request the thyroid panel. He has had 3 0.1 tablets of soloxine tablets.he’s had 1/2 tablet for 3 days. How long should I wait for blood work? It shouldn’t take long for that amount to be out of his system. Should it?

on the reviews here it says that the wellness super 5 mix is a plant bases kibble (at the bottom of the review)ata the bottom of the review on the wellness core it says it is a grain free kibble. so is wellness core a grain free kibble? on wellness web site iit has a grain free small breed. it is not in the pink bag.I’m totally confused because if the wellness core(pink bag) is grain free why do they have another small breed grain free. unless it is a mistake at the end of the wellness core review that says it is a grain free kibble.too many small breed bags!

I am totally confused about wellness small breed. They have a wellness core small breed which has no grains and is ranked a 5 but this is the one that had a recall, then they have a grain free small breed, must be fairly new it’s similar to the original grain for then they have the wellness small breed super 5 mix which is ranked a 4.5. what’s the difference in the grain free and the wellness core small breed which also doesn’t have grains.

Pugsmomsandy read the above dr. just called said the paralysis could have been a seizure and he got his blood work back and said his t4 was .5 in April it was 2.8 so he wants to start him on thyroid medicine . I think he thinks the low thyroid had something to do with the paralysis. He said his white count was a little up but his pH had dropped from 8.5 to 6 since June. What is going on with my baby? He’s still on the chicken and rice and his stomach is a lot better but I’ve got to find him a dog food and start mixing it with the chicken and rice. Any thoughts on the matter would be so appreciated.Could the low thyroid have something to do with his digestive system being in an uproar?headed to see my vet whose also my friend. I think sometimes he doesn’t want to tell me the bad stuff!

Very bad night!! No gas, still having soft stools but he woke us up at2a.m.and he was paralyzed. He was dragging his upper body and could not walk. Did not seem to be any pain so put him in bed and slept till 7 a.m He still could not walk then around 8 a.m he started walking with a limp. Took him to the vet at 9 a.m did 4dx test and it was negative. In house blood work showed everything normal. Sent off blood also will get results tomorrow.Started to give him tylosol(antibiotic) but I declined so he told me to give him his chicken and rice for a few days and gradual start adding his food to this. To use yogurt, digestive enzymes and probiotic which I already do. Said it might be a seizure of some kind. Basically he did not know. I don’t know what kind of food to start him with. I don’t want anymore canned merrick going back with kibble and canned. What kind should I try?don’t want real high protein, fat, or carbs. He was on hk too but I don’t want that either. I associate the canned and dehydrated with his sickness. He was ok until I started switching his food around. Does anyone know what could have caused this paralysis. He has never been sick before and he’s 5 years old.any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Melissaandcrew and anyone. My yorkie is still sick(see above) He is not throwing up but he has soft stools and terrible gas which he never has. He will not eat his hk at all. He will eat a little of his canned merrick. I do the pumpkin, yogurt, digestive enzymes and it hasn’t helped. He has been on hk and merrick canned since June before that he was on bb longevity kibble. I’m wondering if maybe merrick is too rich for him and too high in protein,he is a 7lb yorkie. He was doing great on the dry longevity until he got sturvite crystals so went with low carbs. Maybe he needs lower protein. Anyone have any canned suggestions or maybe I should go back on kibble with canned. I don’t know what to do. If he he’s not better by Monday I’m going back to vet and have blood panel and urinalysis done. I don’t know what to try to feed him tonight. He still wants his dr. Harvey’s sweet potatoe chew and his GL pumpkin treats. Any advice would be appreciated.

He’s on honest kitchen zeal and canned merrick. So you’re saying the merrick is better than the zeal. What are some other quality canned foods that are not high in carbs.I personally like the canned better and so does he. How about wellness core and 4 health canned. We have all of those at the tractor store. I was also thinking about ordering a case of werva. Are these quality canned foods. He’s small so he doesn’t eat too much. Thanks

The fat in nature’s variety instinct is 7.5 but the protein is 10. This food cost .79 a can and variety’s instinct cost 5$ a can.I wonder if 2.5 more protein is woth that much more. I think sometimes we consumers get screwed over!!

I can’t stand this, I want him to enjoy what he eats and he loves merrick canned, natures variety instinct canned. Do you think it’s because it’s dehydrated and he’s never had dehydrated before. Should I continue with it or maybe just add it to his canned until its gone. What is in zeal that has a spicey smell? My husband says don’t make him eat that junk. I said its good food and expensive. Any thoughts?

I ordered the small box to see if he likes it. He ate it today but he didn”t seem to like it as well as the canned nature variety instinct or merricks or even kibble. He will eat anything. I wasn’t real impressed with it. It actually stunk to me. I don’t know about this dehydrated food. I added a little scrambled egg to it tonight and he liked it better. Glad I only ordered the small box.

I’m having a hard time with giving him a different food twice a day because of the amounts and keeping it in the refrigerator too many days so my question is this. Can I give him one food for a month then a different food the next month and so forth or should I give him say honest kitchen for 2 days, then merrick for 2 days(it takes me 2 days for 1 can) then a3rd food for 2 days then start over like this in about 3 months with 3 different foods .Would this still be rotating?
