You’re right Melissa. I forget I have a little yorkie and it takes him 3 days to eat one can so that is why I can buy the good ones.

Canned food is much better than kibble. My yorkie never gets kibble, only canned which I rotate and freeze dried.

InkedMarie my vet is going to send them but I don’t know which place I want him to send them. I love hemopet but Dr. Schultz is amazing!

BCNut or HDM can u give me advice on where to send the titers. The Whole Dog Journal listed the following: Antech Diagnostics $75-&150 hemopet $52, index labs $75-$150′ and dr Schultz lab $25. Dr. Schultz was the cheapest but it takes longer. My vet usually uses antec but I want to try another one. He also said they don’t make single vaccines anywhere except for parvovirus.any suggestions?

My yorkie had a seizure one night. It scared me to death so my vet did blood work on her and her t4 was soo low. He then did a thyroid panel and he is hypothyroid. Dr. jean Dobbs states that low thyroid can cause seizures. Most people think of hypothyroid dogs as being overweight, lethargic, skin problems but other things can cause it too. He now gets soloxine (1mg) divided in half twice a day and his last test his thyroid was perfect. You might want to check this out!

Just got back from the vets. One of the kittens has pneumonia. The mama cat has the real dangerous kind of leukemia(whatever that means)I would have to keep her inside and isolated from my other cat. My vet,who is an animal lover gets on the floor with them, etc.He said every stray he gets he checks them for leukemia but mama was so healthy and he forgot she was a rescue and not my cat because he knows I take good care of my babies. He said it was a mistake he made. Gotta love a vet who admits his screw ups. It’s so bad for the prep techs who have been taking care of them. They were crying and so upset. I told him I had no way to isolate them and I left it up to him. I’m pretty sure he will euthanize them. I’m so upset I’ve been throwing up and crying all day. Crazy for cats we have a rescue group but they can’t take them one fm has40 another one has 28 and the 3rd on has 18. So many kittens this season. I still have 3 kittens at Subway. I’ve found homes for 9.our rescue group is mainly into dogs. No help for kitties.oh well I tried. Please pray for me!

I have no where to keep the kittens to wait for 6 weeks. What about the spayed mama cat. Should she be eutananized or can I brink her home? She will be in the hot outside. My vet was keeping the mama and kittens free. He just cannot keep them any longer. He will have to euthanize them if I can’t take them home. Oh please help me. BC nut and HDM what do u think since u’ve seen so much working with vets? Can someone help me get this message to them.

Corey my dog had sturvites without the infection. The diet is what got rid of mine. I switched to canned with below average carbs and plenty of water and it took care of them. I even added water to the canned. It flushes them out.

Oh dori what a sweet thing to say. I feel like I’m a vets nightmare because I’m so ticky. You are so lucky to have 3 small ones. I want another yorkie soo bad. I’ve filled out an adoption application thru united yorkie rescue for a 11 month old female who has already been in 5 homes. She has behavior problems.I probably won’t get her because I’m 65 and they like for my age to take the older ones.I’ve thought about buying one but I love to rescue. My Bailey is a rescue. He’s 6 got him when he was 2. Didn’t mean to ramble so but thanks.

I tried the Fromm gold canned salmon and chicken pate and my yorkie loved it but he had 3 BMs last night. I think it’s too high in fiber. His other canned foods right now or go fit and wellness stews. What do u think? I also didn’t particular like the pate.any suggestions on what else to try that’s similar to the wellness stews. I love them.

You’re right BC nut, people think that yorkies have liver problems because of liver shunts in the breed. I’m pretty sure shunts are genetic. I know I’m always afraid to get a real small yorkie because I’m afraid they might have a liver shunt but terrible breeders try to get them as small as they can because people pay more for these. Makes me sick!

I am talking about the sandwich shop. We have a utility building with supplies behind it and that’s where I have the kittens. I have good news, my vet is taking them and the mama Tues. he’s going to keep them til we find homes and then fix the mama. I will probably bring her home with me. The kittens are 2 1/2 weeks old and they are getting soo cute. I am partial to the runt he’s so tiny. I’ve even had to show him how to nurse. I might have to keep him too. My husband will kill me. Love my vet! He is truly an animal lover!

My yorkie use to get crystals all the time. I switched him to canned food that was low in carbs and even added extra water to it. We have not had any since. Lots of water is important. I would definitely switch to canned food.

They won’t be 2 weeks old until Thursday. Their eyes just opened. I have her in a storage building behind the Subway with a fan. I live in South Ga. So it’s beginning to get hot. I can’t bring her home because I have a male cat and she runs all the cats off at Subway.I’m going to ask my vet if he will keep her at his clinic a few weeks before he spays her but he told me the kittens could still nurse after she’s spayed. I don’t know what to do. I can!’t believe people throw their animals away. She has been someone’s pet. She is so sweet to everyone but other cats. I’m going to bring her home after she’s spayed and see what happens. My husband says I can’t save all the animals but the ones that are around me I have to try.

I feed my 6 year old yorkie all canned now. He was on kibble and I’ve tried all the honest kitchen and he will not eat them. Is freeze dried similar to dehydrated because if it is and I order it I’m afraid it will also end up at the shelter. I thought about going back to kibble with the canned. Do u think it’s better for him to do all canned or add kibble with it. I wish I could do raw but I just can’t. I just feel like he would benefit from something besides canned even though I rotate and I do add sardines, eggs, cottage cheese, and fruits to it occasionally.I only have 1 dog now so I have so much to learn.Thinking about getting a yorkie puppy if I can talk my hubby into it.So what do u think should I start adding kibble?

I went to my vet today and I kinda got the idea he didn’t want me to give my 7.3 lb yorkie bug off garlic. I only give him 1/4 chewable tablet a day. I was only going to do it during summer for fleas because I will not give him comfort is,frontline, etc. He’s afraid he might get anemia. What do u think?

I have a yorkie and he loves to eat. I did have him on kibble but I have discovered that canned is better so now he’s on just canned with supplements. Yorkies are usually small and don’t eat much if they like canned and freeze dried why do u want them on kibble?

Hi Dori, ziwi peak is too high in fat. I tried the zeal and he would not eat it. I thought it might be the fish but tried Embark and Love and he would not eat it. He just does not like dehydrated food.Everyone on hear seems to think think the canned is better than dehydrated so I’ve gone total canned but lately I’ve been thinking about some kibble. At this time I just can not go raw.He does love to eat and my vet wants him to lose a little weight so it’s a constant battle.

I feed my yorkie only canned foods and I was disappointed in the small number listed. I use the wellness stews, weruva and merrick and in my opinion weruva is far better than merrick. Out of the 3 merrick is my least favorite, causes mine gas. In fact when I’ve finished the cans I have I’m going to another canned one.Why do u think Weruva wasn’t on it?

My yorkie could not be crated because of a former bad experience he would get so stressed he foamed at the mouth. Yorkies are very sensitive little dogs but very smart.I kept mine gated off in the kitchen when I was gone and I was lucky to be able to stay home with him which made it a lot easier. It took me 2 weeks to potty train him and he hasn’t had an accident since and he has free roam of the house. They do tend to sometime have sensitive stomached. When mine has gas and loose stools, I boil chicken breast an cook white rice cut the chicken in small pieces and mix with rice and a little fat free chicken broth. I don’t keep him on this but about a week because it’s not a complete diet but u can add the chicken to the kibble or canned after he’s better.make sure u add digestive enzyme and probiotic. It will help with loose stools.

I have a rescued yorkie. He was 2 when I got him and now he is 6. First thing get him off pedigree it is a horrible food. Try something like nutrisource puppy and small dog chicken. How much does he weigh or how much should he weigh then feed him that amount . Try adding digestive enzymes and probiotics to his food,it should help with the loose stools. You can also try adding about a teaspoon of pumpkin not the pie filling but pure pumpkin t his food. Yorkies are very hard to potty train but a 6 year old should be easier than a puppy. Take him out often and say go potty when he does give him a treat. He will eventually get it. This is my very favorite breed. They are like little people. Read the forums on hear and you will learn a lot. Maybe Sandy will give you some ideas she has small breeds. Good luck! I feed my yorkie canned food. It’s better than kibble .

I really feel for you. I just finished reading dr. Dobbs thyroid book and she made hype comment of dogs with behavior problems as bad as ur dog and it was because their thyroid was so low. She went on to say that after a week or two on thyroid medications that their behavior disappeared. I don’t know what kind of test you have run but I would check her thyroid. Good luck
