    Hi Dr. Mike,

I posted pictures of that stuff from a bag of Shep a few weeks ago in one of the review threads. I’m not sure if I still have the pics, but I will track them down and post them here for you. I’m not sure if there are different varieties of that food. Every time I’ve seen the food display in Aldi, it’s only been the one variety…

I agree with Patty. That poor puppy needs to be on IV’s and fluids and stuff. If it was starved almost to death, there shouldn’t even be a question on what to do. It needs medical attention immediately!

Oh ok, thanks guys! 🙂 & was mah4angel correct with 3 weeks? I can’t find anything online about how long or even that you should freeze it…

Well, I’ve been feeding raw for 2 months and her gas just started recently, that’s why I was wondering if it might be the liver or the rabbit grind and why. & do you know why to freeze the pork for 3 weeks? Parasites or something?

Hey Everyone! I have a question about pork necks. I haven’t given these to Bailey yet and I’d like to start. Right now I alternate chicken backs and turkey necks for her dinners and I’d like to start adding pork necks into the rotation. Do I have to freeze these for a certain length of time before I feed them, and why? I think I’ve read before that I do have to, but I couldn’t find where I read it.

Also, another question that has me wondering….. Bailey gets gas, really stinky gas, but I haven’t been able to narrow it down on what it is. I believe it might either be from the turkey livers or the whole ground rabbit carcass. Any ideas which it might be and why? She never had a problem with gas up until I started feeding those two things, which I started right about the same time, so I can’t figure it out which one it might be…

I completely agree Karen. My friend owned my previous dog’s mother and father. When the mom got pregnant, I delivered the whole litter when it came time, which included my doberman Moose. I was holding him when he took his first breath and I was holding him 11 years later when he took his last. I wish I could have had many, many more years with him, but I could never, ever imagine dumping him or abandoning him. & now I have Bailey, who was scared of everything and growled and barked at everyone because of who knows what kind of abuse. She has come so far in the almost 6 months I’ve had her and I made a promise to her that she would never, ever be hurt again.

Oh, and btw, Ron, you are a good man for what you do and for giving Abby a home. We hope you’ll stick around and keep us posted on how she is doing! 🙂

Yep, that’s the look, lol! I may have to get a tread mill for her, because I walk her twice a day and play fetch in the yard with her and she even runs the fence with the little terrier next door quite a bit and she still gets that way. I feel bad, like I don’t exercise her enough, but I think she could just keep going all day if I let her…

So how is your one that was having issues with the DE, & being constipated? I think you mentioned it was Deana. Hopefully she’s doing better…

Yes, especially that picture of her. & she really is alot of fun. Not a day goes by that she doesn’t make me laugh atleast a few times because of her silly antics. She’ll get all wound up and take off into the other room and come running back and park it at my feet and look at me like “I know I’m not supposed to run in the house Mom, but I just HAD to!” She does that quite often and I can’t help but laugh because the look on her face is priceless.

Lol! That would be a lab for ya, lol! When I adopted Bailey, they said she was a Border Collie/ Pitbull mix or BC/lab mix. I see alot more pit than lab in her. I look at her sometimes and she looks just like a pittie to me. I call her pittie girl at those times…..then she just goes back to Trouble, lol!

My Moose protected me from his best friend Forrest, who was a Basset Hound. Forrest growled at me once and Moose jumped up and got between us in a split second. Him and Forrest had grown up together and were best buddies. I was shocked. Your Deana sounds like a special girl. You’re very lucky! My Moose was one in a million. He was a big baby, but I knew nothing would have ever happened to me with him around. I do love my Bailey and she’s been a godsend, but I miss my Moose more than anything.

I have Bailey who’s about a year and a half & who I just adopted in January. She’s a border collie/pit bull mix. Her middle name is Trouble, because it fits. (I call her by her middle name quite often). My doberman was Moose, he was my doggy soul-mate. His was a joke name because he was always the biggest puppy in the litter and he learned his name very young so it stuck. I also had a collie mix named Toby and when I was little I had a terrier/lhasa apso mix named Scout.

Betsy, I just wanted to thank you for making me laugh. I’ve had an absolutely horrible day and reading through the last few comments of yours, with your dog running off with the rock and then you saying “You, ah hem, rock, Patty!”, really made me laugh. Thanks for that!

Let me know if the rocks work.

Hmmmm, thanks Susan. Sounds interesting. Keep me posted on how this works. I’ve been adding extra water to Bailey’s breakfast so we’ll see if this does anything. I’ll read up on those rocks and see. I’ve never heard of such a thing…

I use the Crown Prince ones too, in the pouch, I get those at Marcs. I was also getting some at Walmart in a tin, but I just had a brain fart while I’m typing and the brand escapes me now.

& Holy Crap Sandy, the Amazon link you posted shows the sardines I get and they’re expensive!! I pay 50¢ a pouch when I get them.

Ok thanks! I was thinking the same thing, starting off with a 1/4 cup. I’m sure she’ll drink it all. Thanks for the advice! I’ll start that tomorrow morning. I just wrote it on a sticky note and stuck it to the cupboard so it reminds me, lol! Hopefully that helps! Thanks Patty! 🙂

Hey Patty, Yes I do feed grinds, in the morning. I was thinking about adding some water to her breakfast this morning, but got distracted at 5am when she was outside barking at the biggest raccoon I’ve ever seen, lol! Doesn’t take much to throw me off a train of thought. So, how much water do you think I should add, without making soup? I give her 1/2lb in the am.

Very interesting article. Thanks Gemma60537! Not sure how I’d go about getting her to drink more water though. Another good suggestion Sandy. I don’t think Shawna posts in the forum section, but I’ll try to catch her in the review section today and explain what’s going on and see if she could offer any suggestions. Thanks guys!

Thanks Sandy. I’ll pick some of those up sometime soon. I’ m hoping there’s nothing really wrong with her & it’s just that she needs to drink more water.

I take it they make “test kits” or something to check the ph of urine? I guess I could try to “catch” some and test it. Patty, she pees in a different spot every time she goes pretty much, & it’s killing the grass just with one urination. So I guess it’s got too much something. I’ll try both of your suggestions and see if that helps, but I hope it’s nothing majorly wrong. We’re going to the vet on Friday, to have her ear looked at because it’s still kind of bothering her, wondering if maybe I should mention it to the vet. I know I’ll get an earful already because of the way I feed her now.

Thanks for your help and suggestions! 🙂

& just to warn you, in case nobody has yet, when you buy some green tripe, it’s supposed to smell like that! Lol! I wanted to see what all the fuss was about over the smell when I first started feeding it to my dog, so I took a big whiff, boy was I sorry. Dogs love it though!

Somebodysme…..While that comment did make me laugh, it also makes me sad. There are so many people in the world that completely believe that Beneful and “foods” like it are “supposed to be so good”. It sickens me that Purina and other companies can and do still sell products like that when they continue to sicken and kill pets. UGH is right! 🙁

in reply to: Canine Caviar ! BEST FOOD FOR ANY ISSUE!! #20188 Report Abuse

Paige you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. Look what Purina Beneful’s website says about their food “Help keep your dog happy and healthy with a perfect balance of real, wholesome ingredients, quality nutrition and great taste found in Beneful® brand dry dog food.” If THAT was true, why would so many dogs be dying on it. That is one of the worst of the worst foods.

& Dr. Mike isn’t basing his reviews on “his opinions”, he is basing them on fact, the ingredients, black & white! Go try to sell your food somewhere else!

    Hi mah4angel!

I don’t really follow any “recipes”, I kind of make it up as I go along. I’m still in the “adding new things” phase. I posted what I was feeding, at the time, a few weeks ago, in the other thread just to get HDM’s opinion on if I was doing ok. What I was feeding then, has since changed a bit because I’ve added a few more things to Bailey’s diet.

Right now, I mix up ground beef, beef organ grind & ground green tripe and I give her about 1/2lb of that in the morning along with either a cage free egg or a pouch of sardines (I do one or the other every other day) & Dr. Harvey’s Multi Vitamin Mineral & Herbal Dog Supplement , and a half of a one a day vitamin, some coconut oil and a spoonful of yogurt. I just started giving her ground whole prey rabbit, so I’ve been doing that every other morning instead of the beef, organ, tripe grind.
For dinner she gets either a half of a turkey neck or a chicken back & a chicken foot and either chicken or turkey livers, chicken gizzards and chicken hearts. I usually rotate the livers and gizzards and heart and do 2 of the 3 every day. I also fast her Sunday evenings.
I get all my grinds and the heart and livers from Hare Today. I still have yet to find a really cheap place to get things, but I’m not spending all that much. I have a local butcher that I get my turkey necks and chicken gizzards from.

mah4angel, I know exactly how you feel. I have only been feeding my dog raw for a little over a month and a half, but I researched and read everything I could for a few months before I finally pulled the trigger and did it. I don’t feed my Bailey nearly as complex as what HDM and other feed, but my dog IS 100% completely on raw now and doing great. I feel silly now for being so nervous about starting, but I agree I did get REALLY overwhelmed and almost decided not to get into raw feeding. But, luckily you, like I did, found this site and any questions you have someone can answer them. If it wasn’t for HDM and others on here, I don’t think I’d still be feeding raw to my dog. I had so many questions and everyone so graciously answered them. It DOES get easier, trust me! If I can do it, anyone can! Good Luck! 🙂

When I started my dog on raw about a month and a half ago, she did the same thing the next day. But she just threw up the once and had a bit of runny poop. I think it might be just their systems getting accustomed to real food and not kibble, if I’m not mistaken. I’m sure HDM or someone else can give you a better answer, but I just wanted to let you know that it’s probably normal and my dog was fine and is thriving on raw now. Good Luck! 🙂

Oh, and I felt the same way as you did the first meal my Bailey ate raw. I don’t know if I was more nervous or excited or what. It was very interesting to watch her at work on the bones and using her teeth the way the were meant to be used instead of just crunching a bowl of kibble. I still enjoy watching her eat.

Yeah, I combine ground beef with the organ grind and tripe grind, portion it up and refreeze it. The rabbit will be easier because I’ll feed that by itself. I’m sure glad I found out about Hare Today on here. Sure makes feeding raw a lot easier!

Hi Everyone! Thought I’d share some good things, since all that Shep garbage ingredient has really grossed me out. Anyways, Bailey has been doing awesome! She is eating tripe regularly (& loving it) and she’s eating chicken hearts, and chicken & turkey livers regularly, with no problems. I also got her the whole rabbit grind from Hare Today that I’m going to give her probably next week. Not quite ready to do a whole prey animal with her, although I’m thinking about getting her a whole dressed quail (that sounds funny like it’s dressed in clothes or something) maybe sometime soon. I don’t think I can get anything with feathers or fur on it. Not sure I can handle that. Anyways, I also have Bailey completely off the Fresh Pet too, and her ear problem DID clear up. Not sure what in that food could have caused her problems, but I’m so glad it’s gone. So, that’s our update! I want to thank everyone, again, for all your help and suggestions. & I’m sure, if she could, Bailey would be thanking you all too! 🙂

Whew! 🙂 Thank you so much!! I will be introducing more organ meat. Probably might get an organ grind from Hare Today. Just taking it slow though introducing that stuff. I’m also phasing out the Deli Fresh completely, because I have a feeling that might be causing Bailey’s ear problems, not sure though. & I watch her stools like a hawk, lol! & I have been very happy with them. I was just curious if I was doing everything else right.
