I will try to calculate the amount of calories per serving..

I asked the wife and she said yes we’d ask the Vet to do the blood work for Thyroid

Just hate seeing her like this, she is active when were out around the lake and the woods, but I also guess the extra treats need to be stopped..

    Thanks for your feedback..

I’ll report back with what I find out..

After a walk which is three times a day she get’s a small cookie..

Activity is laying around unless I take her out..
She’ll run and play once we are out, she’ll chase the bunnies, geese, ducks, squirrels, loves to roam the brush on the side of the trials..hunting

I’ll ask the Vet on Monday she has an appointment for her shots update

When we got her two years ago she weighed 40 pounds.. Sometimes I feel like I’m depriving her of food..
She snacks when I do if I have ice cream she’ll have a very small dish, She doesn’t like apples or any type of fruit, vegetables yes she likes these except green beans..

She is roughly nine years old..I took her off the humane society, she had been abandoned, because she was unadoptable because of her age, and she was ready to be euthanized and I don’t like this..At this time they guessed her age as 6 to 7 years..

We gave her everything she wanted, I guess we treated her like a child of the family rather than a dog..

    Thanks

    Ron..

I just naturally put it down to the can food, it is chicken chunks and rice all in a gravy mix..
Could be natural she used Pedigree can food before I remember seeing the same thing.
This dog is a recused dog, she was abandoned, left inside an apartment after the people moved out..
I have had her now for two years. I can’t get out of the front door with out her.. I grab my shoes or hat and she’s already jumping, and whining like an old cat. She is ready to go..
I go to the grocery store and she sits in the drivers seat and howls as I walk to the store door..Wonder what people think..

But I’m going to get her some diet food, she is to heavy, her belly is wider than the rest of her..

    Thanks for the excellent reply..

One thing I never knew was the Diamond manufactured this product..Heard to many bad things about Diamond’s products..

Abby seems to like and enjoy the Pro Balance. I put her on this food about a month ago..But only on the Salmon dry food, the other day I opened a small bag of Bison and Pea food, she will not touch it..

I also tried just dry food morning and night. She got into a sulking mood and never ate for two days..So I had to go back to wet food in the mornings..

Thanks.. I think I’ll stick with Pro Balance for now..

<quote>Retha thanks for the response.. I did use Pedigree for years and even recommend it to others, no more though..At the top of the page check out the Reviews.. on types of foods..

If there is a Wal-Mart close to you go the pet section and give Pro Balance a try, you can buy small bags. Salmon and peas seems like a good start..This food is all grain free.</quote>

Retha I meant to tell you “Pure Balance” you can get it at Wal Mart.

OK thanks for replying Melissa, I also heard a lot about Diamond, so it’s out..

I did go to Wal-Mart and got some dry and wet Pro Balance. Abby loves it..

My first dog Eddie was a Pedigree dog, who got sick and ended up having two shots a day for diabetes, this never stops.. He ended up passing away because he was just too sick. Been three years now and I still see him walking with me..even though he’s not..

Thanks jakes mom for replying.. Abby took to this food like a duck takes to water..

Abby was a rescue dog, when I got her she was around 6 or 7 years old, was abandon by her owners in an apartment.. They just moved and left her behind..

But getting back to the food, I was wondering if maybe she was fed this food with her previous owner..As soon as the wife put a bowl of salmon and peas dry mix down, she ate like she had missed it all these years..

She has had no problems with the switch at all..

I did notice the difference in her bowel movements though, with the new food an easier bowel movement and much more than normal, sometimes when we are out walking she’ll go sometime twice within minutes..

I was in the dog store today looking at the different brands of dry food, what are your thoughts on Natural and Diamond..

    InkedMarie, thanks for your reply.

I checked out your selection, both look good and have a high rating..

    Wellness Core has different products..

Annamaet is not in my area, but I travel back and forth to Canada and I see locations and stores that I know..

I have many selections now, going to be hard to make a choice..

Will try one at a time and see if Abby likes them..She is not a picky eater.

She is a rescued dog who was abandoned and on the list to be euthanized, so we stepped in and took her home two years ago..she has been the very best little girl, but is too friendly..I live in a senior’s complex and can’t get out of the parking lot for a walk without her visiting everyone on the way..She must have made friends over the last two years with a million people..

Thanks Peggy, I’ve been on the site most of the morning reading, and reading, gets confusing.. I like to see answers as to what others have done and used..
Pure Balance has a 4 star rating..
I have a few pet stores around me I’m in South Lyon Michigan..
There is a Walmart in the next Town from us..I will check Pet Supplies Plus first before heading over to Walmart..
Thanks for posting the info. I appreciate this..
Abby has put some pounds on, I was reading the label this morning and Pedigree is loaded with by products..
For years I always thought Pedigree was a good food..How wrong could I have been..

Thanks folks, I spent some time on here last night. I found a lot of good information..

I was reading the label, and I am a label shopper, but not for dog food I guess. Anyways the label say by product of of sorts..

Also talked to the wife about the dog food.. I am going to get a better quality food, probably dry..Wet food is to fattening.

I have a black lab she is roughly 8 years of age, and a little over weight..

What are some of the dry dog foods would you’d recommend I get her on…I would appreciate some feedback on this..

    Thanks

She limps now and then.. I give her two baby aspirins hidden in peanut butter..

Seems to work and the Vet says fine..

Excuse me for the tears, I am having a beer and a very hot Dearborn sausage. And it is hot..

Inkedmarie the hip is doing fine, takes a long time to completely heal. Been going on almost 5 months and the hip pain is gone in fact the hip replace never gave me any problem, just the shaft part that goes into the thigh bone.. They cut the muscle and it takes time to build it back up.. I walk with a limp because I can’t put my full weight on that leg yet..so I also use a walking cane..

I will look at NutriSource so are so many out there it’s hard the choose from. I lost eddie because of the way we fed him and of course he ate it all no matter what he got..He ended up being a bad diabetic..

Bluetic thanks, I have given Abby some can food containing lamb.. I found out she is not keen on dry food, I ot some canned food and she gobbled it up, still learning her little things, after all she had 7 years with someone else feeding her..
Her little traits are starting to show now. She like people food, but she will get none to very little, she has a excellent memory, I have been walking about four times a day and she knows the times, because she comes to me and makes little groaning noises and gets excited..Can’t put my hat on in front of her that means walk time, I opened the van door she jumped in and refused to get out stood her ground..so she loves car rides..Her traits are starting to show..and she is relaxed now with us..she knows the kids, they stop by just about every day and Sunday is like a restaurant around our place for breakfast..

Now why do people dress their dogs, this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen..

I have seen dogs with clothes on and it looks like a joke..

I can see a coat of some type in the winter to help keep the dog a little warmer, but to clothe a dog, now come on!

I have to agree, there are so many brands of dog food, which do you choose from.

I had another posting going where some of you have been a great help in choosing dog food..

Never Fostered any dogs, don’t know if I could, well to begin with we live in a senior’s townhouse complex, so limited on space like no back yards fronts are mostly for parking..

Yea I do see and hear a lot of unusual dog names. I named my first rescue dog Eddie after the TV program Fraser..

My second rescued dog was older and knew her name Abby, so it remained the same, no sense in confusing her..

My last dog Abby came from a shelter, she gets the dogs from the Humane Society when there filled and it’s time to put dogs down, she steps in and takes them and places them in Foster Homes..

I thank these people, they have to have a good heart to do things like this for our animals..They didn’t ask for this to happen to them..

I am proud of each one of you who are Foster Homes..

Thanks…. I believe in commitment. If you take any kind of animal, dog or cat, that is a commitment for the life of that animal..

To many people believe in the throwaway society, easy come, easy go..

Animals are born into our society with no rights, and depend on one of us to care for them..

I never had a dog except when I was a kid living with my mom and dad, many, many moons ago..

10 yars ago our outdoor floodlights kept coming on for maybe three or more nights..so I got up one night to check and seen this little red dog outside in the bitter freezing cold..
Went outside to see him, he wanted nothing to do with me, tried a few times to nip my ankle, no way was this guy going to do this..

I made a box for him with blankets, even opened the side door to the garage for him to go inside out of the weather..Nope didn’t want that..

Next morning I asked the wife to make me a small bowl of warm oatmeal..That did it, he ate so fast I gave him a little more plus a nice drink of water..

I still couldn’t get near him, then a day or two he came up to the door and I opened it and in he came..He stayed inside where is was warm and cosy and he got fed very well.. I took him to the vet and had him checked out all the shots..

Kept him in a create for maybe a month, always left the door open so he could come and go..This is when he bonded to me and just tolerated the wife, even though she fed him his daily food..He was a one person dog, and that was me..

He was so protective of the wife and I, no one got near us until they got through him first.. But he had problems, very mad little guy, didn’t tolerated people or other dogs. Once a person was accepted by eddie they were OK with him they could come in the house..

He was like a shadow, where I went he went, good thing I was retired, because he’d never let me out of his site..He was a Vizsla mix, all red, red nose and red eyes, no tail..He also fit the Vizsla, he was a home dog..
He may have had problems, but to the wife and I he was our little guy, and always will be..He is waiting in the Rainbow Bridge..
Sorry I am getting choked up. See you later.

Thanks for the heads up on the Vet. You’d think they would know about diets, oh well as bad as family Doctors..

Thanks for the kind words on eddie.. I still miss the little guy, and it still brings tears even after this long..He was my sidekick for 10 years, I couldn’t even get out of the front door alone..

I have a friend in the UK who lost his Cavalier about a week later..

So I have a Hosting program, so I opened a web forum for Memorials and just talk about our animals..

When it comes to our pets, do we ever stick to a budget..

I just got out of having a total hip replacement, the day I came home my other dog I had for 10 years passed away the night before..Replacement was March 1st. Eddie passed away March 3rd..

He had been sick so we took him to the Vets, found out he had very high sugar put him on the needle. But he was also ill in the upper GI, had medications to help, but he still passed away.
We spent just under $4000. trying to keep him alive..
So I don’t think we follow budgets very good..

I just thought maybe NutriSource might be a good selection, since it is a well known brand..
I am going to take Abby to the Vet’s and will see what he recommends..

I talked to the girl that has the shelter, she told me Abby was like that when she got her, so she mixed some wet food with the dry food..
I went and got a can of wet food, mixed some with her dry and away she went, just gobbled it down..

But I will switch her to a more healthier diet. PSP has like two or four rows of dog food dry, all different brands and types.. I will also check out TS.. I will check out NutriSource..

    Thanks for the help..

My last dog loved the Pedigree so I bought it again.. But Abby doesn’t like it, so I’ll have to try another..

My last dog passed away after 10 years, and we gave all the doggie stuff to a rescue home, never thinking we’d have another dog..

I’ll mark these foods down and look them up..

    Thanks Ron..
