My pup, Micah, started showing signs of IBS the week I brought him home at only 8 weeks old. The vet said to change his food, which I was in the process of doing anyway, but was not much more help than that. At 6 months, he started showing signs of a systemic yeast infection too. Fortunately, at that point I had learned enough to quickly get him on food that helped with that and then I started finding out how they are connected. I really feel like I dodged a bullet and I’m really thankful for the people on DFA who educated me. My vets, much as I love them, were no help on this one.

I would say that they put the dented ones in the middle on purpose or else they’ve got the screwiest machine malfunction I’ve ever heard of.

Rotation helps keep the gut healthy. A greater variety of flora can live in the gut if they get a variety of different nutrients and that makes it harder for one bad microbe to overgrow.

Feeding raw meaty bones helps to make the stool harder which helps to naturally release the anal glands. You need to really watch your dog when you first start feeding bones to make sure your dog chews up the bones instead of gulping. Starting with chicken necks works well or if you have a large dog turkey necks.

I can tell you it does not work for fleas in Florida, though some essential oils work this way. Vinegar is very acidic and should be diluted 1 cup per gallon of water if it will be against the skin.

Have you tried just adding warm water to the dry? Or sprinkling on parmesan cheese? Adding a little of the meat from your dinner?

It sound like a systemic yeast problem to me. High starch food feeds yeast in the gut and then it grows out of proportion to other gut flora and ends up affecting the whole dog. Getting on a diet high in animal protein, moderate fat, low carbohydrate, no grain or white potato may help. Also very important is adding pre/probiotics and digestive enzymes. Go to Brotherscomplete.com and read their Brothers document and FAQ to learn more. I’m using Brothers Complete Allergy Formula with great results for my dog with this problem.

Definitely do not give 1/2 a pill and then the next month the other half. Trifexis is not stable when exposed to air and 1/2 pill is not enough. Consider giving 3/4 of a pill and throw out the rest. Hound Dog Mom had a great suggestion, unless you live in an area where you have flea etc. issues all year round, you might want to avoid the excess chemicals when you don’t need them.

No, Janus69’s posts don’t detract from the legitimacy of the thread. They just go to prove that when people read something on the internet, they have to decide for themselves how much they are going to check for themselves about what was said versus just blindly believe everything you read. That a good thing for all of us to realize, even if we don’t agree with someones point of view. There are a few regulars on the reviews that I don’t agree with their point of view, but I still learn A LOT from them and I would hate it if they quit posting because people don’t agree with them or something like that. There is plenty of room here for people who think differently, as long as we are polite to each other, and don’t take ourselves too seriously.

Try more probiotics(Mercola has the BEST one) and also add digestive enzymes. Try mixing a very small amount of pumpkin in his food and as he gets used to it increase the amount, up to about 1 teaspoon.

Their high horse is getting really tall. They must feel really threatened that they need to bother going after all these little fish. How stupid that this is what they waste their time on!

It’s rare that ringworm gets properly diagnosed. Often they start treating it as if it’s ringworm and if it responds, it’s ringworm.

From my years working at a local vet, I can tell you that the dogs that came in with heartworms were the backyard or hunting dogs that were rarely seen by the vet for anything. We have a high prevalence of heartworms down here and in 9 years we probably saw 3 house dogs with heartworms and hundreds of outdoor dogs with heartworms.

You should store the food in its own bag with the top rolled down in a cool dry location. Fats can go bad from exposure to air, heat, some metals, etc. If you keep it in its original bag then you have info for possible recalls and the experation date on the bag. If you get a large bag, but have a small dog, you might want to store excess in the fridge/freezer.

Not HDM, but she feeds twice a day normally, on her fast days she feeds once a day. That’s my understanding. Yesterday, I spoke with someone who fasts his dog a few times a week, but he feeds huge meals and then fasts until time to feed the next huge meal, like how a wolf would eat.

They have found that protein is not the issue with large breed dogs. The study that concluded that high protein played a role was actually faulty and has been disproven for quite some time now, but it’s a bandwagon that is easy for vets to jump on since they don’t have much education in nutrition and what they do have is from pet food companies that want business not what is best for your pet.

There are definitely topics that get blood boiling here, but it’s because we are so passionate about our pets. And at the end of the day, even the people you just argued with are invaluable because you learn from them too. We all learn to appreciate what everyone else brings to the table, even if we don’t agree with them.

Try giving her a good probiotic like Mercola’s and a digestive enzyme with every meal for a while. She could probably use a little digestive help with what she’s been through.

Between dog food, cat food, and cat litter, I always have plenty of good sized, heavy duty, lined bags laying around. I scoop into the bag regularly but I leave the bag open so the contents continue to dry out. On garbage day, I roll down the top and make a deposit of my own in the trash can;-)

Just last year, I got a table top tree because Of BC pup in the house. They are totally OCD about balls. This year we have another pup, it will be table tree again. My kids are getting old enough that they aren’t wild about the tree having to go up at the first possible moment anymore, so it’s no disapointment to them to have a dwarf tree. When they were younger they loved the idea of their own tree.

    Woof

Taste of the Wild is made by Diamond and Diamond has had multiple serious recalls. Both people and pets have died. They did not learn from their mistakes. They had to take things apart and do such a thorough cleaning this time because of things that were their fault and that they did knowing it was not the right thing to do. They made repairs to food handling surfaces with cardboard and duct tape and they left unbagged food laying around in the open for unknown amounts of time in addition to other FDA violations.

Many people do think or feel things are good or bad. And most understand that they have to decide for themselves if they think or feel the smae thing is good or bad. And since Dr Mike has been on this site since you started espousing your view, but has not chosen to agree with you, I’ll have to assume he is happy with how things are going and doesn’t need you to police the place, until I hear otherwise.

We’re all adults here and take responsibility for our own actions, which means if I choose to believe what I read on the internet without verifying it, it is my responsibility. People may believe they are reporting facts and still be wrong or a topic may be about opinion. It’s your opinion what people should post and that differs from a lot of peoples opinion. I would rather hear what people think than hear from someone who says they don’t have a right to post what they think.

If he looks in good weight then he is just a piggy, don’t give in. If he has more than the last three ribs showing or clearly defined hip bones, you may need to increase his feed. If that is the case, increase it slowly or you may increase it too much and it’s far better to have your still growing pup thin than fat.
