Hey Melissa, how do you have 15 dogs? Where I’m at, anything over 4 requires a kennel license. ๐ Your dog food bill must be outrageous. How much do you go thru a day? Like 1 large bag? WOW. It’s great that you can take care of so many dogs, and feed them all so well. ๐
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Morada, Merrick’s received a low glycemic award. Which makes it great for pets that are diabetic, or need low sugar/carbs. You should take a look at Dr. Mike’s list of 5 star canned foods, for more options. I posted the link for you earlier, but the post disappeared. Sorry for the inconvenience.
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Morada, here is a list of 5 star canned foods. Check thru the ingredient lists, I know that Merrick’s received a low glycemic award. /dog-food-reviews/wet/5-star/
LabsRawesomeMemberMarie, that sucks! I love Costco. ๐
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Marie, it may be beneath you, but my 2 dogs love Kirkland Cuts in Gravy. It is a Costco exclusive. $18.69 for a 24 can pack. It receives 5 stars from Dr. Mike. It’s grain free and ALS. I go thru 4 cans a day, as I am trying to feed a more species appropriate, moisture rich diet. I add some fresh protein too, and a small amount of a 5 star kibble.
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Honeybeesmom, I found this site. Scroll down the page a little. You will come to a map of the United States, check the key to see how many cases in your state. My state has 1 to 5 cases per clinic/per year. They were fed canned food/human food. None of my childhood dogs ever had heartworm, and they were outside dogs. My 2 dogs that I have now, are my first 2 on my own, since becoming an adult, and they are inside dogs. ๐ http://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm.html
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Honeybeesmom, have you ever looked at this natural worm/Heartworm preventative? http://www.nativeremedies.com/petalive/products/parasite-dr-cat-dog-digestive-system-health.html?img=368&kbid=11045&sub=petalive#ysmtac=kbid&ysmchn=affiliate&ysmcpn=kbid&ysmgrp=11045
December 16, 2012 at 1:11 pm in reply to: Dry 5 Star VS 3-4 Star Dehydrated Food #10976 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberI use a 5 star canned as their base food, to which I add a small amount (half a cup) of a 5 star kibble as a “topper”, actually the kibble goes on the bottom. ๐ Also I like to add fresh eggs, sardines, various meats.
LabsRawesomeMemberDowsky- Yes! I think it’s a great idea to rotate thru different flavors within a brand. If they all have different protein sources, and are not too similar. I like to rotate using totally different brands as well. ๐
LabsRawesomeMemberThe dogs that get heart worm are the dogs that are being over vaccinated, fed processed pet food, given flea & tick preventative, and are being treated with suppressive drugs for every little thing that comes along. Get your dogs immune system healthy, and there is no need for any of these “treatments.”
LabsRawesomeMemberEvery morning I put my 7 year old son on the bus. I tell him to “be good”, and “I love you”. Followed by a kiss on the cheek. Never thinking that it could be the last time I would see him alive. I just can’t wrap my head around the pure evil mind and heart a person would have to possess, to do something so senseless. I can only imagine how devastated the families must be. My heart, and prayers go out to the families, friends, and everyone affected by this terrible tragedy.
