Hi Lynn, if you’re looking for more brands to rotate with, Victor is also GMO free. Here’s there site. http://www.victordogfood.com/
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Cameron, I definitely wouldn’t use Good Friends dog food. I didn’t see the ingredients on the site, but with a price of $11.99 for 40lbs, there’s no way it can be a good food. Maybe you could talk your sister into buying something higher quality? I don’t know what her budget is, but if she could spend a little more (maybe you could throw some in) she could get a lot better food. Here’s the site I found for Good Friends- http://www.ruralking.com/pet-supplies/pet-food/dog-dry-food/good-friends-dog-food-kennel-kruncher-40-lb-182666-40.html There are lots of good dog foods that won’t break the bank. I have great luck with Victor. I pay just under $40 for 30lbs of grain free. Their grain inclusive formulas are even cheaper. You can check them out here. http://www.midamericapetfood.com/victordogfood/dogfood.html They have a store locator for stores in your area. There are lots of other budget friendly foods too. Rachael Ray Zero Grain, Pure Balance, and 4health, are good quality too. What stores do you have near you? Do you have Tractor Supply, Costco, Walmart, Petco, Petsmart?
LabsRawesomeMemberMelissa, I agree. But that is the shelter’s policy. They must get enough donations of foods on their approved list. It is a kill shelter, so I don’t really understand why their so picky. I was kinda shocked the first time I saw their list of approved dog/cat food/litter/cleaning supplies. LOL. Btw I adopted my 3 cats , and my Springer Spaniel from them. š
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Akari, I think it’s great that you donate food to your local shelter. But my local shelter won’t accept cheap foods like Pedigree or Ol’roy. They have a list of approved foods. Stuff like Science Diet and Iams. So if you walked in with Pedigree or a similar food, they won’t even take it.
LabsRawesomeMemberHave you tried putting your cats food up higher where the dogs can’t reach it? I keep my cats food up on the bathroom counter top. I have two dogs that won’t touch the cat food. And I also have a Dachshund that I know would eat the cat’s food, if he could reach it. š My cats don’t get a chance to eat the dog’s food, because all 3 of my dogs eat their food as soon as I give it to them.
LabsRawesomeMemberLiz, Here’s my list of 4 & 5 star budget friendly foods. Costco’s Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Turkey and Pea Stew $19.99 case of 24 cans. Tractor Supply’s 4health .99 cents per can. Walmart’s Pure Balance grain inclusive $1.00 And Pure Balance 95% meat cans $1.25 per can. All cans are 13oz or more. For kibble I recommend Victor grain free. The kibbles are tiny. And if you can buy it local, it’s a steal at under $40 for 30lbs. It comes in smaller bags as well. If you contact the company, they will send you free samples. Most stores have free samples, as well. http://www.victordogfood.com/
August 19, 2014 at 4:24 pm in reply to: New foods for chihuahua & italian greyhound? #49746 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberHi Liz, I have great luck with Victor Grain Free. The pieces are tiny. If you’d like to look into Victor, here’s their site. http://www.victordogfood.com/ They have 4 grain free kibbles. At the top of the page is a store locator. I buy it local and pay just under $40 for 30lbs. If you have a Costco nearby, their canned is a very good option. It’s called Kirkland Signature Nature’s Domain Turkey and Pea Stew. A case of 24 cans is $19.99 Both are 5 star foods. š
LabsRawesomeMemberI can’t see how dried jerky meat could cause Pancreatitis. There’s only 0.4 grams of fat in 5 slices of dried beef.
August 17, 2014 at 4:08 pm in reply to: Finding a dry food for a picky Yorkie with lots of food allergies #49667 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberSallynova, are you accidentally reporting your own posts? All 3 of your posts say that they’ve been reported for inappropriate content.
LabsRawesomeMemberHello, and Welcome Eric! š For treats, You could use dehydrated meats-fat free. Or you could buy a dehydrator and make your own jerky treats, and save a lot of $$$. That’s my two cents. Hope it helps. š
August 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm in reply to: Best Large Breed Puppy Food for Golden Retriever??? #49624 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberHi Michael, I would pick 3 or 4 from HDM’S LBP list. My dogs do great on Victor, Earthborn, Dr. Tim’s GF. Check her list for specific formulas, that are LBP appropriate. š
LabsRawesomeMemberHey Dori, yeah I guess I used the wrong word. LOL. š What I meant to say was if a person/dog has a weak immune system it will get it working better. I knew what I meant, but probably no one else did. You explained it much better, Thank You. š
LabsRawesomeMemberHey Dori, let me know how the Epicore goes. It’s supposed to really rev up the immune system. If you are ordering the animal formula, it might have a different name IDK. That would be awesome, if they start to carry Victor. It’s a really good budget friendly 5 star food. š
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Dori, you’re welcome, I thought maybe the video could answer some of your questions about the product. Victor’s is a great buy for me, since I can get it local. I pay $42.99 for 30lbs of Yukon River. And 30lbs of Ultra Pro 42 is $38.99 $15 doesn’t seem too bad, although it’s always more expensive online than in store. Another option would be to just buy Epicore and add it their meals, like Barbara does. I think she uses the animal grade, and she takes it also, I believe. I think it’s the M Clay that cleared my dogs eyes. Not sure, maybe the combo of all the extra additives they put in Victor. š
LabsRawesomeMemberHey Dori, this is the Diamond V that Barbara is talking about. Here’s a video. š http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WV76LfT6hC4 This stuff is in Victor dog food. They have a link to it on their site.
LabsRawesomeMemberVictor’s Ultra Pro 42, and Yukon River formulas are gluten, grain, and GMO free. Both are 5 star foods. If you look at the PDF for both foods, there is a circular emblem, with the words going around the “stamp”. http://www.victordogfood.com/
August 6, 2014 at 10:48 am in reply to: Need help finding affordable food for yeasty allergic dog #48727 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberVictor Yukon River. Grain/GMO free. Around $40 for 30lbs if you can get it locally. http://www.midamericapetfood.com/victordogfood/pdf/Brochure-GF-Yukon%20River%20Canine.pdf Check Victor’s site for stores in your area. victordogfood.com
August 2, 2014 at 9:38 pm in reply to: I need HELP!! Bailey's hair is falling out! #48473 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberHope that’s all it is, and Bailey feels better soon. Have fun doing all that laundry! The same thing happened to me once. I didn’t change detergents, just bought a new scent. We all got super itchy, and broke out in rashes. I had to rewash everything. Never again. LOL š
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Betsy, using USA’s recommended ash of 2% in canned foods. I came up with these numbers for Nature’s Domain Turkey & Pea. 35% protein 56.3% fat and 8.8% carbs.
August 2, 2014 at 4:10 pm in reply to: How long to keep canned food in refrigerator #48455 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberNot to be gross, but I’ve seen dogs eat things that were dead and decaying, enough to make me gag. They will roll all over the dead thing too. The dog was happy an had no ill effects from eating the clearly rotten meat. She did need a good scrubbing tho, as she stunk really bad. I don’t think refrigerating canned food for 3 or 4 days is going to make a dog sick. Seriously.
LabsRawesomeMemberMelissaandcrew, I feel exactly the same way. I think it’s so gross to store used cat litter (or diapers) in the house. STINKY Blah! I don’t care where you live, everyone has an outside garbage can or dumpster. If you can’t smell it maybe you’ve gone nose blind! LOL š
LabsRawesomeMemberI haven’t used the Cat Genie, but I have tried the Diaper Genie (which works the same way) for my son’s dirty diapers. The whole nursery wreaked of poop. So I threw it away, and put his dirty diapers in the trash outside. Problem solved. š
July 28, 2014 at 6:22 pm in reply to: How long to keep canned food in refrigerator #48026 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberI’ve eaten leftovers that were 4 days old and older. Canned dog food should last that long too. š
July 27, 2014 at 7:42 pm in reply to: I need HELP!! Bailey's hair is falling out! #47961 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberPoor Bailey. Hope you can get her feeling better. š
LabsRawesomeMemberOkay. Here’s a food with 15% fat. It’s grain free, GMO free, and right around $40 for 30lbs, if you can get it local. It’s Victor Yukon River. Here’s the PDF http://www.midamericapetfood.com/victordogfood/pdf/Brochure-GF-Yukon%20River%20Canine.pdf And here’s victor’s site in case you want to look at some of their other grain frees. victordogfood.com š
LabsRawesomeMemberHmm that’s weird. Does she throw up? What’s the protein and fat % in the food?
LabsRawesomeMemberLOL š What do you mean by wacky?
LabsRawesomeMemberHow do you know she doesn’t handle fat well? What happens?
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Zach, does your dog have a medical condition? Just wondering why you’re looking for a low fat medium protein food. Because by having lower fat and protein the food is going to have way too many carbs. š
July 25, 2014 at 8:03 pm in reply to: This is your mission…should you choose to accept it: #47799 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberLMAO š Yes, I am addicted. No one can touch the quality of Victor, for the price. And my 3 look AWESOME on it too. š There’s no other 5 star kibble that comes close to Victor’s price point. Just under $40 for 30lbs. Yes please. š
July 25, 2014 at 7:53 pm in reply to: This is your mission…should you choose to accept it: #47796 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberHigh protein 42% 22% fat and low carbs 17% total carbs. 479 kcals per cup. Victor Ultra Professional formula. I buy it local for $40 a 30lb bag. I don’t think a food with your exact specs exists. I haven’t looked at them all tho. ;P http://www.midamericapetfood.com/victordogfood/pdf/Brochure-GF-Ultra%20Pro.pdf

LabsRawesomeMemberSo sorry you are going through this with the kitties. You are in a tough position. Just a thought, do you have a basement, or garage that you can keep them in until you can find them a home or a rescue group to take them in? Maybe a friend or relative has a basement/garage to keep them in for awhile? Just a thought. Sorry you’re in such a tough spot. š
LabsRawesomeMemberSorry about your bad experience with that Vet. $40 and $20 are very cheap tho. I pay $50 just to walk in the door, and that doesn’t include anything. That’s just what they charge for an office call.
LabsRawesomeMemberVictor Yukon River. Grain & GMO free. I buy it local at 30lbs $42. Here’s the PDF. http://www.midamericapetfood.com/victordogfood/pdf/Brochure-GF-Yukon%20River%20Canine.pdf
LabsRawesomeMemberDr Mike has Nature’s Domain canned at 44% protein 28% fat and 20% carbs. On a dry matter basis. /dog-food-reviews/natures-domain-grain-free-canned/

July 21, 2014 at 8:13 pm in reply to: New Dog – Tick Bites, Loose Stools, Whipworms, Limping #47402 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberShe pretty much has no choice but to neuter. That’s one of the down sides to adopting from shelters. If you don’t comply with the shelter’s policies, they can, and will, take the dog back. Before you can adopt, all animals in your house must be up to date on shots. That’s one reason I won’t adopt from shelters. They have too many rules. And I am not over vaccinating my dogs and cats for anyone. With that being said, I did adopt my 3 cats from a kill shelter, as well as my Springer Spaniel when he was a puppy. And with 3 dogs and 3 cats, I’m not looking to get anymore pets right now anyway. And also, I really doubt that the groomer will admit to doing anything to the dog.

July 21, 2014 at 6:12 pm in reply to: New Dog – Tick Bites, Loose Stools, Whipworms, Limping #47394 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberI definitely would not take him back to that groomer. They obviously either twisted his leg around while clipping his nails, or let him fall/jump off a high table. I never let anyone be alone with my dogs. If they are having any procedures done (besides surgery) I am in the room. I just don’t trust people. Once you get all his test results back, you will have a better idea what is exactly going on with him (heartworm and tick born illnesses) But if you have any more trouble with worms or giardia, I would recommend Panacur. It takes care of 4 different worms, it also quickly clears up parasite related diarrhea. This site sells Panacur really cheap and gets it to you quickly. http://www.revivalanimal.com/Panacur-C-Dewormer-Safeguard.html Please keep him away from that groomer tho. I’ve seen hidden camera footage of a groomer being really rough with dogs, and slapping the shit out of them. š

LabsRawesomeMemberHolly, you should use Human grade fish oil for your dog. Human grade is higher quality, and has higher standards than pet grade. Human grade is usually much cheaper too. You don’t want your fish oil to smell or taste “fishy” that would indicate that the oil is rancid. I buy human grade fish oil for my dogs, and keep it in the fridge, to keep it fresh.
LabsRawesomeMemberYou’re Welcome. I hope your pup feels better soon. š
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Dawn, this is the cheapest site I’ve found to buy Panacur. http://www.revivalanimal.com/Panacur-C-Dewormer-Safeguard.html I ordered it before noon on Tuesday and it arrived at 11 am on Wednesday. I had it shipped ground, which is the cheapest. I was shocked that it came so quick. š
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Jonathan , I agree with Betsy. I use Victor dog food, the grain free formulas. I get 30lbs for around 40 dollars. I need big bags because I have 3 dogs. Since you only have 1 dog, and are on a tight budget, you could go for the grain inclusive. Those are around $20 for 20lbs. If you follow the link Betsy left, you can email the company and ask for a free sample. Or call a store in your area, and ask if they have free samples. My 3 love Victor foods.
LabsRawesomeMemberHey Zach, I use Costco’s Kirkland Signature. http://www.costco.com/Kirkland-Signature%E2%84%A2-Omega-3-Fish-Oil-Concentrate-1%2c000-mg.%2c-400-Softgels.product.11072245.html If you scroll down in the link I left, you will see the product details. I keep mine in the fridge, because heat and light will degrade fish oil and turn it rancid.
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Eddie, here’s the suggest a dog food for review link. š /contact-us/suggest-dog-food-review/ It helps Dr. Mike out if you include a link to the company’s website, for the food you’d like reviewed. š

LabsRawesomeMemberHi Maureen, here’s a list of low fat dog foods. I would pick a canned formula. /best-dog-foods/suggested-low-fat-dog-food/
July 7, 2014 at 10:31 am in reply to: Please help: 1 yr Lab needs to GAIN WEIGHT #46336 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberHi Melinda, I feed Victor Ultra Professional 42 formula. It has 22% fat. I thought I’d post some info for you since you’re looking for a higher fat food. Here’s Victor’s site. http://www.victordogfood.com/ And here’s the PDF for Ultrapro42 formula. http://www.midamericapetfood.com/victordogfood/pdf/Brochure-GF-Ultra%20Pro.pdf

LabsRawesomeMemberWhen my Dachshund puppy started lifting his leg to mark outside, he also started doing it inside the house as well. So I had him neutered. That stopped the marking in the house. Hopefully you don’t have that problem. š

July 2, 2014 at 10:29 pm in reply to: Vaccines and Over Vaccinating: Do You Agree? Did You Stop Vaccinating? #45919 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberOkay, well in my other reply to you, I was answering your previous question- “How do I know if my dog has lifetime immunity? And where can I find that info? That’s why I posted info on vaccinations. You can find the info on immunity there. “Here’s some info on titering. I personally think titering is a waste of time, and money. Falling Titers: Oh-oh or No Big Deal? http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/titer-testing-dog/
Testing yearly will eventually show titers that fall off. Does that mean immunity is gone and youāve got to head in for a ātopping upā of the immunity reservoir?
No!
(And stop thinking that a āreservoirā even exists. I actually hesitated writing this word, as I donāt want you to think this is in any way reality).
It only means the antibody levels are waning. And why wouldnāt they? Itās a waste to keep making more antibodies when thereās no exposure to more virus. In its wisdom, the vital force deems its work is done in this area, and stops pumping more antibodies into the blood.
But, the good news is this: cellular memory is still very likely present to the bad guy you vaccinated against and, should your buddy ever be exposed to this virus again, BOOM, the antibody production factory fires up and the titer rises once again, and rather quickly at that.
So, itād be a mistake to equate a titer thatās fallen with a lack of protection, and a greater one to think you need more vaccinations to re-establish protection. Immunity is still there, quietly, watchfully alert.
[In the older guys, I like to add a nice immune boost in the form of transfer factors, just to be sure their immune systems are acting out of the greatest responsive intelligence. And perhaps thatās a subject for another post.]
Have you used titers? Does this info help? Maybe youāve even seen this: your animalās titers kept on increasing for years after you stopped vaccinating! Thatās what happened to my colleagueās dog on testing rabies titers. Let us know in the comments.

July 2, 2014 at 9:47 pm in reply to: Vaccines and Over Vaccinating: Do You Agree? Did You Stop Vaccinating? #45915 Report AbuseLabsRawesomeMemberHi Neezerfan, no, your dog doesn’t need booster shots. In fact they are pretty much useless, and harmful. Here’s a link to some good info. http://www.yourpurebredpuppy.com/health/articles/puppy-shots-and-dog-vaccinations.html
LabsRawesomeMemberHi panda, Go for grain free food. Some good ones I use, that are pretty budget friendly are Hi-tek Naturals Grain free. Earthborn grain free. Kirkland Nature’s Domain grain free(Costco). And Costco’s canned grain free is Kirkland cuts in gravy. My 2 do great on these foods. All are 4 or 5 star foods. š
LabsRawesomeMemberHi Honeybee’smom, My 3 cats have been on the cat formula, Earthborn Primative Naturals Feline for about 10 days & they are loving this food and doing great. My dogs also like the dog formulas. I have not had any problems with EB. I never order online though, as I have a very nice pet store about 10 miles from my house. š
