Thank you all! I was in Canada after I posted the pictures and just got back into the US today so didn’t have a chance to reply earlier. Going to visit the puppies tomorrow and bring our girl home (she’s been at the breeder’s since she whelped). I will decide which puppy by this upcoming weekend as we’re less than 2wks now from bringing he/she home!! So excited! Now onto the chore of wading through the masses of which food to put the pup on. Oh boy!

Thank you all so much – it’s definitely helped me to consider my options. I am going to give my vet a call and discuss options for spaying Zoe. As she won’t be bred again and she will be 5 this fall, perhaps it is the best choice for her. I know doing so reduces chance for certain cancers. And cancer is quite prevalent in our breed u fortunately.

Would love to post pics – need to figure out how??

P.s. Lol yes definitely a stay at home mom to the kids too. And the cat and chickens lol. It’s almost a regular zoo over here 😉

aquariangt, thank you for the feedback. It’s much appreciated. Our current girl is the sweetest thing ever. I cannot imagine another dog being better with kids than she is. She is aloof of strangers – but that is common with the breed. As soon as she sees that we are fine with whomever is approaching, then she is too and they quickly become her best friend. She is, however, very stubborn and bull headed. She is very dominant and will even hump other dogs (doesn’t matter their gender). With this said – do you think that adding another intact female would cause issues? And what about an intact male – should we leave her intact as well if it proves to be the better option for her own wellbeing and health.

Is there a reason Pulsar Pulses isn’t on the pdf list linked in this topic? It’s on the editor’s choice list and it’s grain-free plus meets the calcium requirements… It’s significantly cheaper than ToTW that I’m feeding now…

Just wondering the consensus on this food if anyone knows…

Yes, obviously if we have issues we would figure it out. But spending $100 a month on dog food is something I would like to try and avoid – if possible. I have 3 kids to feed as well 😉 Our dog-show friends aren’t spending $50/bag on dog food as they have 4-8 dogs they feed a month and their dogs are doing great – so I know there must be options. I would probably consider going grain-inclusive because many of those are less expensive it seems like. I will look into the Dr. Tim’s that you mentioned – thank you!!

Hi all! I’ve been coming to DFA website for years but this is my first visit to the forums. I have a 4 1/2yr old Bernese Mountain Dog. She’s been on Taste of the Wild for most of her adult life and we rotate meat sources within the brand. She has just whelped her first (and last) litter 2wks ago. She’s currently at her breeder’s home with the puppies – we plan to keep one pup from the litter. My husband is wanting to switch food over for both dogs due to the expense. One bag of ToTW is $50, so he doesn’t want to spend $100/mo eventually feeding two berner’s. I am trying to find another food that is reasonably priced but high quality. Having a hard time as I’m going through the list. Does anyone know off-hand a grain-free option that is under $50 for a 25-30lb bag? We usually buy locally at a small chain store (Chuck and Don’s) as they have reward programs for many brands (buy 10 bags, get 11th free, etc…)… but I’m willing to buy online also if that’s the cheaper route. Appreciate any input!
