My question was directed to Amy, “which shampoo are your using?” I have one I use that is antimicro and antimacro. I feel as if those w/ oatmeal (which as Holistic vet Dr. Karen Becker states not to use for does w/ yeast issues.) made Jazz more itchy.

Acroyali, I have not been successful in finding a holistic, homeopath or NAET practicing vet in my large surrounding area. I don’t feel it would be all that helpful to consult w/ one by phone as so many recommend.

I don’t agree w/ giving flea/tick meds and choose to go w/ a natural spray remedy.

I am quite knowledgeable and absolutely an advocate for Jazz and is why I am seeking advise from others who have had success stories. But again I’m unwilling to compromise his health w/ something like Apoquel, steroid and cortisone injections.

Anon, One of the stories on the link you sent me said they gave their dog Zyrtec. I would if it worked. I was told human allergy rx has not been a proven remedy for dogs.

Amy, which shampoo works for your scooby. We bath Jazz every 2 wks. Also read this if you have not already – http://www.dogsnaturallymagazine.com/wouldnt-give-dog-new-allergy-drug/

    Thanks for all the feedback.

That’s it, locating a knowledgable doctor that practices holistic, NAET &/or homeopathy in my area.

In what way has the Allergen specific immunotherapy helped your pooch, and how long have you been doing this? As well as the age and breed of you pooch please?

I’m curious if you feed raw or kibble?

    Thanks for your response!

    New to Raw

I’m seeking education from dog owners w/ thriving raw fed dogs.

We have an almost 4yr old male, black lab w/ environmental allergies (all yr around in nor Ca) – Jazz. I recently went raw, one meal (do to cost) – trying Barf World, Lamb to start. And I’m not finding it gross 🙂 Is there a prepared, balanced raw that delivers that is higher quality and ideally lower priced? Eventually I hope to be able to identify a balanced recipe & the ingredients to do it myself.

I’m also looking for wild, sustainably sourced sardines that I can buy in bulk. In hopes to avoid buying canned.

Lastly, supplements (vtms & minerals) that are necessary and have proven healthy benefits for raw feeding. Such as a great sustainably sourced krill oil (not cod), etc.

    Thanks for you support!

Yes, that was good mention of Respit and was what I was advised and the reason I chose to try it.

Please again identify what method you went w/ for testing, and the product that has been working, so I can check w/ the vet/dermatologist. I was not clear on the name. The thing is, it’s hard to find one that’s knowledgeable in this area I’ve found.

I do know mine is environmental. I did diagnose it myelf, and then several others in same litter seemed to also have similar allergies, then one was tested and found allergies to numerous grasses (which was my main thought), trees, dust mites, etc.

    Thank you!

How long until the Immunotherapy kicked for you? What were some of your dogs allergens, and what area do you reside in? We are in the Bay Area, CA. Several of the dogs in our labs (Jazz’) litter also has environmental allergies.

Currently we’re administering Respit (this is a geographic specific immunotherapy. I chose not to test on account of expense and was told the labs are not consistent and results show no significant difference. It states this can take up to 6mos. for results.) No significant difference yet in 3 most. We are also bathing wkly (a chore for our 90lber). Vet recommended a mild dish soap (ivory) for first wash, as we have a labrador. This to break through the water barrier (water breed), then followed up w/ a medicated shampoo left on for 5 mins. Seems to help some.

May test if others are seeing results.

Yes, this is the Dip I use, however because Jazz is a black lab it’s advised to NOT use the peroxide as a dip because it can bleach the black fur per Dr. Karen Becker. Watch this one it’s full of insight https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gl_X1I1GJ1Q.

I do believe Jazz very well may be allergic to grass and that could be exasperating the yeast. I had switched from Orijen Adult to Acana limited ingredient initially thinking he could be allergic to chicken. Unfortunately, I just found out that the Acana limited has more carbs then Orijen (& the yeast became worse) – Orijen Tundra has ~17.5% carbs (the least of all in their lines). I’ve always fed grain-free and now trying low-glycemic. Going raw for a 90lb papa is not affordable sadly w/ 2 teenage boys in the house.

I’m open to other healthy toppers or 1 raw day if someone has suggestions!

    ~Thanks

    Thanks for the cream info!

You can also buy witch hazel wipes. Witch hazel is also recommended by Dr. Karen Becker. Sherrie, please share the name of the wash & cream you mention? Unclear what the cream is for.

How about yeasty feet remedies that work please? I just began doing foot baths w/ vinegar & water, & the off days cleaning webbed feet and nails w/ same but wiping w/ cotton balls. Will bathe 1x/wk w/ antibacterial/antifungal shampoo.

Has anyone had success w/ a cream to fight the bacterial/fungal after cleaning the paws? Now I’m trying coconut oil.

I’m actively trying to remedy this… I switched to from Orijen (other), Acana & Merrick canned to Orijen Tundra because I called and this one has the lowest carbs of both (all) lines, and to instinct canned. I will continue to use sardines as a now and then topper aswell. Adding plain greek yogurt & oregano or ACV.

I’ve yet to find a dry food w/out alfalfa, pumpkin, carrots, tapioca; high glycemic foods. I’ve been feeding Orijen, Acana, Merrick canned & sardines (1x/wk). I know this are high quality kibbles, but still these ingredients a present in the dry foods. I looked at Brothers and only see complete. These ingredients were there as well, w/ a ton of ingredients I could not pronounce vs. what I’ve been using. Help! I’m willing to try raw 1 day/wk, if I could get a great recipe (which could be varied). I love Dr. Karen Becker’s video on yeast http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthypets/archive/2011/05/03/eating-these-foods-can-make-your-dog-itch-like-crazy.aspx and I’m doing my best to rid our 90lb male lab, Jazz. ~Thanks
