My wife and I have three wonderful daughters, all still at home, thank goodness :-) And then we have our son and brother, our Newfoundland named Dewey. I'm 48 years old and I've always had golden retrievers prior to Dewey. I lost all of them to cancer at very young ages so I decided to look at Newfoundland's after meeting a family at a RV campground one summer. I fell in love with the breed immediately. Dewey is our first Newfoundland. He is 10 years old now and within the past six months his years are starting to show. It's making me very sad, watching his slow decline, although I conceal those concerns and worries about him from my daughters. I just make sure that they spend as much time as possible with him. So anyone that would like any information about Newfoundland's, please feel free to contact me. They are incredible! However, be ready for the hair! :-) In my opinion, they have the most wonderful demeanor that I have witnessed in dogs. My golden retriever's were wonderful too and I miss them terribly. As I get older, golden's require a little too much activity than I can provide. Newfoundland's need to be active as well, but not to the extent of the retriever family. As mentioned, be prepared to brush them daily and be prepared to fall in love!
